CIGARS AND GOLF IN PUERTO PLATA TO RECEIVE SUMMERIn the North Coast of the Domi-nican Republic, one of the most paradisiacal tourist spots in the country, it is the beautiful city of Puerto Plata, and in it the Blue JackTar hotel, which has pre-pared a great event to welcome

the summer, is CIGARS & GOLF, which will take place on 1, 2 and 3 July.On Friday 1 and Saturday 2 will be a smoke evening with the fa-mous cigar blender Don Eladio Díaz in the newly opened Puerto

Plata Cigar Club, from eight o’clock in the evening. On Satur-day 2, will be the golf day at the famous course “Playa Dorada Golf Course” designed by re-nowned Robert Trent Jones Sr. who has 6,765 yards in length.

And to complete the gorgeous activity, on July 3, the traditional “Sunday Peña” that will be held since 11:30 am on the terrace of Green JackTar restaurant, in Playa Dorada.

En la Costa Norte de la República Do-minicana, uno de los lugares turísticos más paradisíacos del país, se encuentra la hermosa ciudad de Puerto Plata, y en ella el hotel Blue JackTar, que ha pre-parado un gran evento para recibir el verano, se trata de CIGARROS & GOLF, que tendrá lugar los días 1, 2 y 3 de julio.Los días viernes 1 y sábado 2, habrá una fuma-da con el famo- so mezclador de cigarros Don Eladio Díaz, en el recién inaugurado Puerto Plata Cigar Club, a partir de las ocho de la noche. El sábado 2, será el día dedicado al golf en el afamado campo “Playa Dorada Golf Course”, diseñado por célebre Robert Trend Jones Sr. el cual tiene 6,765 yardas de longitud. Y para terminar la actividad en grande, el domingo 3 de julio, se celebrará la tra-dicional Peña del Domingo, a partir de las 11:30am en la terraza del restaurant Green JackTar, en Playa Dorada.

Jason Holly, dueño de Viva Republica presentó el cigarro Premium hecho a mano “Ivy”, producido en la fábrica La Aurora, en colaboración con Guillermo León, en Tam-boril, Santiago, República Dominicana y que es distribuido por Miami Cigar & Company.Ivy Cigars rinde homenaje a los días de Holly cuando era un estudiante de la Ivy League. Holly explicó su inspiración para el proyecto, diciendo: “Solía fumar cigarros en el campus de Harvard, cuando estaba en la escuela. En una tienda en la plaza ví una vieja foto de JFK que fuma un cigarro en el patio, la historia y la tradición es abruma-dora y quería crear una marca que tuviera esa sensación de nostalgia”. Hablando sobre el cigarro, dijo: “Todos los tabacos utilizados en la mezcla Habano del Ivy se han envejecido un mínimo de cinco años. El primer lote utiliza tripa entre 2007 y 2009 y la hoja de la capa fue sem-brada en el 2008. El primer lote de “Ivy” viene en tres tamaños y cuenta con una capa ecuatoriana Habano Corojo, un doble capote con tabacos de Camerún y de la República Dominicana, así como hojas para tripa del Valle del Cibao en la República Dominicana y las regiones de Estelí y Condega en Nicaragua”. “Hay un plan de crecimiento muy especí-fico que hemos concebido para introducir correctamente el cigarro en el mercado”, comentó Holly. Se están lanzando tres tamaños inicialmente: Lamont, Dudley y Porcellian, empacados en cajas de a diez, diseñadas por el ilustrador Glenn Wolk que ha realizado el diseño de productos para los Beatles, Ralph Lauren, Tommy y Hilfinger.

Jason Holly, owner of Viva Republica introduced the premium handmade cigar “Ivy”, produced at La Aurora cigar factory, in partnership with Guillermo León, in Tamboril, Santiago, Dominican Republic and is distri-buted by Miami Cigar & Company.Ivy Cigars pays homage to Holly’s days when he was an Ivy League student. Holly explained his inspiration for the project, saying: “I used to smoke cigars in Harvard Yard when I was in school. In a store on the square I saw an old picture of JFK smoking a cigar in the Yard, the history and tradition is overwhelming and I wanted to create a brand that had that feel of nostalgia”. Talking about the cigar, he said: “All tobaccos used in the Ivy Habano blend have been aged a minimum of five years. The first batch uses filler tobacco from 2007 and 2009 and wrapper leaf grown in 2008. The first batch of “Ivy” comes in three sizes and features an Ecuadorian Habano Corojo wrapper, a double binder with tobaccos from Cameroon and the Dominican Republic as well as filler leaves from the Dominican Republic’s Cibao Valley and Nicaragua’s Estelí and Condega regions. “There’s a very specific growth plan that we have conceived to properly introduce Ivy to the marketplace”, commented Holly. Initially, they are launching three sizes: Lamont, Dudley and Porcellian, and will be shipped in boxes of ten designed by illus-trator Glenn Wolk who has done product design for The Beatles, Ralph Lauren, and Tommy Hilfinger.

EL INSTITUTO DEL TABACO DE LAREPÚBLICA DOMINICANA CELEBRA EL 54 ANIVERSARIO DE SU FUNDACIÓN

El Instituto del Tabaco de la República Dominicana (INTABACO) fue fundado el 15 de junio del 1962, mediante la Ley 165-01, y al cumplir su quincuagésimo cuarto aniversario de su instauración, se han cele-brado diversas actividades para celebrar la fecha de tan importante institución para el desarrollo y producción del tabaco en la República Dominicana.Dentro de los actos con-memorativos, se ofició una misa de Acción de Gracias, en la Catedral Metropolita-na de Santiago El Mayor, y a continuación ejecutivos, empleados e invitados especiales, junto al director ejecutivo del INTABACO, Sr. Juan Francisco Caraballo, realizaron una ofrenda floral en la estatua del patricio Juan Pablo Duarte. El jueves 16 de junio, se llevó a cabo una jornada técnica sobre los Avances del Taba-co Libre de Residuos, tras lo cual se reconoció a los tres empleados más destacados del INTABACO durante el cuatrienio 2012-2016.

The Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (INTABACO) was founded on June 15, 1962, by Law 165-01, and to fulfill its fifty-fourth anniversary of its establishment, has been held various activities to celebrate such an important date for the development and production of tobacco in the Dominican Republic.

Among the commemorative events, was celebrated a Mass of Thanksgi-ving at the Metropolitan Cathedral of Santiago El Mayor, were executives, employees and special guests, along with executive director of INTABACO, Mr. Juan Francisco Caraballo, laid a floral tribute in the statue of Juan

Pablo Duarte, the Father of the Coun-try. On Thursday June 16, it was held a technical conference on “The Progress of Tobacco Free of Waste”, after which was recognized the three most outs-tanding INTABACO employees during this four-year period 2012-2016.

El Instituto del Tabaco de la República Dominicana (INTABACO) auspiciará el encuentro de la Asociación Internacio-nal de Productores de Tabaco (ITGA por sus siglas en inglés), el cual se llevará a cabo del 28 al 30 de junio en el Hotel Gran Almirante de la ciudad de Santiago. Este importante evento concentrará en esta ciudad, eje de la producción de tabaco de la República Dominicana, a productores de la noble hoja de taba-co, procedentes de unos 23 países de Latinoamérica, Asia, África, Oceanía y Europa. En el encuentro internacional se analizará la situación actual del sector y sus proyecciones futuras, las nuevas tec-nologías para lograr mejores cosechas con mayor rendimiento por tarea, así como para mejorar la calidad. Además, se presentarán los informes correspon-dientes a otros encuentros mundiales de los productores tabacaleros.ITGA es una organización sin fines de lucro fundada en 1984 con el objetivo de representar ante el mundo la causa

de millones de productores de tabaco. Su conducción recae en un Directorio, integrado por un Presidente, un Vice-presidente y un Secretario Ejecutivo, quienes en su conjunto procuran pro-yectar una voz colectiva en el ámbito internacional y nacional con el fin de lograr la seguridad de largo plazo de los mercados del tabaco.Los productores de tabaco alrededor del mundo, independientemente del volumen de su producción, comparten problemas, amenazas y retos similares. Es por esta razón que ITGA sostiene que cada productor de tabaco, inde-pendientemente del tamaño de la tierra que cultiva y del volumen de tabaco que produce, tiene el derecho de contar con representación internacional como una forma de asegurar que las com-plejidades y desafíos que encierra su actividad sean consideradas debida-mente por las autoridades resolutivas internacionales.Para ITGA, el empoderamiento es la pa-

labra clave: sus políticas y actividades son desarrolladas por productores de tabaco —representados por sus propias organizaciones nacionales de pro-ductores, consejos comercializadores regionales de tabaco o institutos na-cionales del tabaco—, a fin de promover sus intereses. Así, a los productores de tabaco de todo el mundo se les brinda la oportunidad de expresar sus preocu-paciones al unísono.

The Tobacco Institute of the Dominican Republic (INTA-BACO) will host the meeting of the International Tobacco Growers’ Association (ITGA), which will take place from 28 to 30 June at the Grand Almirante Hotel, in Santiago, Dominican Republic.For this important event, members will gather in Santiago city, shaft of the tobaccco production in the Dominican Republic. Pro-ducers of this noble leaf will come from 23 countries in

Latin America, Asia, Africa, Oceania and Europe. At the international meeting will analyzed topics like: the current situation of the sector and its future prospects, new technologies for better crops with higher yields per task and also to improve the quality. In addition, reports for other global meetings of tobacco producers will be presented.The International Tobacco Growers’ Association (ITGA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1984 with the ob-jective of presenting the cause of millions of tobacco farmers to the world. It is run by a Board of Directors, comprised of a President, Vice-President and a Chief Executive who, together, strive to provide a strong collective voice on an international and national scale in order to ensure the long-term security of tobacco markets.Tobacco growers all over the world share similar problems, threats and challenges, regardless of the size of their production. It is for this rea-son that the ITGA defends that every tobacco farmer, regard-less of the size of the land he cultivates and the volume of tobacco he produces, has the right to be represented inter-nationally, as to ensure that the intricacies of and challen-ges to his activity are justly considered by international decision-makers.For the ITGA, empowerment is the key-word; ITGA policies and activities are developed by tobacco farmers, repre-sented by their countries’ own grower-run organizations, re-gional tobacco leaf marketing boards or national tobacco institutes, to further their own interests. Thus, tobacco growers all over the world are given the opportunity to voice their concerns in unison.
