Arquitectura icónica París posee una familiaridad atemporal y más lugares conocidos que cualquier otra ciudad. La grácil aguja de hierro forjado de la Torre Eiffel; la grandeza del Arco de Triunfo que preside la avenida más glamu-rosa de la ciudad, los Campos Elíseos; la catedral de Notre-Dame y sus gárgolas; los puentes que cruzan el Sena, iluminados por farolas, y los cafés de estilo art nouveau repartidos por las aceras están grabados en la retina de todo aquel que haya estado en París y en la imaginación de quienes (to-davía) no la han visitado. Visitar boutiques de diseñadores famosos y emergentes o de las principales casas de haute couture es parte esencial de cualquier viaje a la ciudad. La grandeza de París es muy inspiradora pero lo que más me fascina de la ciudad es su intimidad. Sus quartiers son como un mosaico de pueblos y, aunque es una de las mayo-res metrópolis del mundo, con toda la cultura y las comodidades que ello conlleva, sus tiendas, mercados y cafés conservan un ambiente de barrio que ya conocí en mi niñez. Y como cada pequeño ‘pueblo’ tiene su propia personalidad que va evolucionando se puede decir que sigo descubriendo y redescubriendo rincones ocultos de la ciudad.

Arriving by the stunning main entrance, pick up colour-coded � oor plans at the lower-ground-� oor information desk beneath Pei’s glass pyramid, ride the escalator up to Sully and swop passport for multimedia guide (limited descriptions in galleries) at the wing entrance.
The Louvre is as much about spectacular architecture as masterly art: to appreciate this zip up and down Sully’s Escalier Henri II to admire Venus de Milo then up parallel Escalier Henri IV to the palatial displays in Cour Khorsabad. Cross room 1 to uncover the escalator up to the 1st � oor and staircase-as-art L’Esprit d’Escalier.
