CORPUS CHRISTI The Solemn of the Body and Blood of Christ, Corpus Christi, commemorates the Holy Eucharist. Although this celebration was established by the Church on the following Thursday of the Trinity Sunday, our local Church celebrates the feast the following Sunday as this is when Jesus instituted the Eucharist at the last supper. The feast of Corpus Christi owes a rather large debt to St. Juliana, who was the one who led this devo-tion. The feast was instituted by Pope Urban IV who commanded the universal observance of the feast; however, it wasn’t until the 14th century that the feast became universally celebrated. Today, outdoor proces-sions of the Blessed Sacrament are very common in some churches as a way to celebrate Corpus Christi. Eucharistic Exposition and Benediction are also com-mon devotional practices. “The Eucharist is "the source and summit of the Christian life." (LG 11) "The other sacraments, and indeed all ecclesiastical ministries and works of the apostolate, are bound up with the Eucha-rist and are oriented toward it. For in the blessed Eucharist is contained the whole spiritual good of the Church, namely Christ himself, our Pasch." (CCC 1324).

La Solemnidad del Cuerpo y Sangre de Cristo – Corpus Christi – conmemora la Sagrada Eucaristía. Aunque esta celebración fue establecida por la Iglesia el siguiente jueves del domingo de la Santísima Trini-dad, nuestra Iglesia local lo celebra el siguiente domin-go que es cuando Jesus instituyó la Eucaristia en la última cena. La fiesta de Corpus Christi tiene una deu-da bastante grande con Sta. Juliana, quien fue quien lideró su devoción. Ya la fiesta fue instituida solemne-mente por el papa Urbano IV quien ordenó que se ob-servara esta fiesta en toda la Iglesia, pero no fue sino hasta el siglo XIV que la festividad se celebró universal-mente.

Hoy en día, Corpus Christi se celebra con procesiones del Santisimo Sacramento por fuera de las parroquias, así como exposiciones del Santisimo y bendiciones son prácticas devocionales muy comunes también. “La Eucaristía es "fuente y culmen de toda la vida cristia-na" (LG 11). "Los demás sacramentos, como también todos los ministerios eclesiales y las obras de aposto-lado, están unidos a la Eucaristía y a ella se ordenan. La sagrada Eucaristía, en efecto, contiene todo el bien espiritual de la Iglesia, es decir, Cristo mismo, nuestra Pascua"(CCC 1324).

We hope the seeds planted by your teachers throughout your time at St. Bridget gives fruit to great accomplishments in the future. Commu-nity is at the heart of who we are. We pray that our students remember the responsibility we each have to respond to the needs of others as members of God’s family and do so by giving back to our community.
