El Cabildo de Fuerteventura, a través del Patronato de Turismo, celebró en las Ruinas del Convento de San Buenaventura la gala de los Premios Distinguidos del Turismo 2009.

La ceremonia contó con la presencia de la vicecon-sejera de Turismo del Gobierno de Canarias, María del Carmen Hernández, el presidente del Cabildo, Mario Cabrera, la consejera de Turismo de la primera institución insular, Águeda Montelongo, y el alcalde de Betancuria, Marcelino Cerdeña.

La Corporación Insular convocó la celebración de unos galardones cuya resolución se resolvió en el Consejo Rector del Patronato de Turismo celebrado el pasado mes de junio, decidiendo otorgar el premio Playas de Oro al Grupo TUI Travel PLC, el premio Pla-yas de Plata al Hotel R2 Bahía Playa Design Hotel & Spa, la Mención Honorífica a José Aracil Gayarre y la Mención Especial Colectivos al Torneo Internacional de Fútbol de Veteranos Costa Calma Beach.

Contó con la presencia de alrededor de 200 invi-tados, entre los que se encontraron representantes institucionales, asociativos y empresariales del mundo del turismo en Fuerteventura y en Canarias. Águeda Montelongo, consejera del Turismo del Cabil-do, subrayó que “los Premios Distinguidos son la cita más importante del turismo a nivel insular, que sirve de plataforma para que los propios representantes del sector puedan proponer y decidir ellos mismos quienes serán los ganadores, y reconocer de esta manera los logros alcanzados por las personas o entidades que trabajan cada día para mejorar la situación de Fuerteventura en lo que respecta a la primera industria de la Isla”.

Auf diese Weise können sie die Personen und Einrich-tungen auszeichnen, die Tag für Tag daran arbeiten, die Situation des Tourismus auf Fuerteventura zu verbesser, welcher die führende erste Industrie der Insel darstellt.“

Betancuria hosts the 2009 Tourism Awards of Honour Gala

During the Tourism Department’s Main Council Meeting that took place last June, the island’s corpo-ration voted for the awards to be dedicated as follows: The Gold Beaches prize went to the TUI Travel Group PLC, the Silver Beaches prize to Hotel R2 Bahía Playa Design Hotel & Spa, the Honorary Mention to José Aracil Gayarre and the Special Association Mention for the International Veteran Football Tournament of Costa Calma Beach.

Around 200 guests were invited of which represen-tatives of institutions, associations and businesses of the Tourism Industry of Fuerteventura and the Canaries. Águeda Montelongo, Cabildo’s Tourism Councillor, pointed out that “the Awards of Honour are the most important tourism event on the island, and is a platform where representatives of this sector can propose and decide who the winners are and it is a way to recognise the achievements of people or entities who work daily to improve Fuerteventura’s situation regarding the island’s first industry”.




La Consejería de Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca del Cabildo de Fuerteventura, que dirige Natalia Évora, se plante a la posibilidad de ampliar el número de puestos de venta del Mercado Agrícola de Fuerte-ventura, ante la buena acogida tenida en la primera jornada celebrada este pasado mes de octubre. La reserva de puestos para la segunda jornada (7 de noviembre, siempre el primer sábado de cada mes), ya se encuentra abierta en las oficinas de Agricultura.

“La valoración del primer día ha sido muy positi-va, tanto por la participación de vendedores como de compradores. Ya nos están llegando solicitudes para la nueva cita y si hay interés ampliaremos el numero de puestos de venta, para poder dar cabida a la producción del sector primario insular”, explicó la consejera.

El Mercado Agrícola de Fuerteventura está pro-gramado para que se celebre el primer sábado de cada mes, en horario de 9 a 14 horas, y en la planta comercial del edificio de la Estación insular de Gua-guas de Puerto del Rosario. En el mismo podrán tener cabida productos del sector primario majorero, así como derivados que cuenten con los pertinentes registros sanitarios. “Es una iniciativa destinada a potenciar al pequeño productor local, aprovechando además la extensión de las redes de agua de riego en el campo, de esta forma se facilita su comerciali-zación directamente ante el consumidor y por lo tanto se optimizan los beneficios. Cuando exista suficiente producción también trataremos de ampliar el número de días en los que esté abierto el mercado”, apuntó la consejera de Agricultura.

The Agriculture, Livestock and Fishing Council of Fuerteventura’s Cabildo, managed by Natalie Évo-ra, is proposing to increase the number of stalls in Fuerteventura’s Farming Market in view of the great success of the first market day organised in October. Reservations for the second market day (7th Novem-ber, always on the first Saturday of the month), are already open in the Agricultural Department’s offices.

“The first day was very positive, considering the participation of both vendors and purchasers. We are already receiving requests for the next market day and if we get a lot of interest, we will increase the number of stalls available and give more room for the island’s primary sector” explained the councillor.

Fuerteventura’s Farming Market is programmed on the first Saturday of the month between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. and takes place on the commercial floor of the Bus Station in Puerto del Rosario. The market includes the island’s primary market products as well as derivates such as sanitary products. “This initia-tive aims at promoting the small local famers, who have benefited as well of the extension of irrigation networks in the fields; this makes it easier for them to commercialise and therefore increase their profits. Once there is enough production we will also try to increase the number of market days per month”, added the Agriculture Councillor.

A finales del pasado mes de septiembre, Binter-Canarias presentó la escultura donada a Puerto del Rosario y que estará ubicada en la Avenida Maríti-ma. El acto de inauguración, que coincidió con las fiestas de Nuestra Señora del Rosario, contó con la presencia del alcalde del municipio, Marcial Morales, además de otras autoridades de la Isla. Por parte de la aerolínea asistieron su presidente, Pedro A. del Castillo, el coordinador general, Jesús Santana, y el director de Comunicación e Imagen, José Luis Reina.

La escultura, de aproximadamente 85 kilos de peso, representa a un baifo y ha sido realizada en bronce por el artista residente en Fuerteventura Emi-liano Hernández y la empresa FunchoEscultura. En conmemoración del primer vuelo de BinterCanarias a Fuerteventura, hace ahora 20 años, la obra escul-tórica lleva como nombre su numeración: NT 202.

La donación de esta escultura se enmarca en el conjunto de acciones especiales emprendidas por la aerolínea en Fuerteventura y que comenzaron con el bautizo de uno de sus nuevos aviones con el nombre Baifo. Esta denominación tan particular fue propues-ta por uno de los participantes del concurso online Pontunombreaqui.com, con el que se pretendía que fueran los clientes los que eligieran el nombre de las aeronaves de la flota.

En el año 2009 BinterCanarias está llevando a cabo una labor importante en la promoción de los quesos majoreros a nivel regional; la aerolínea es la única que vuela a todos los aeropuertos del Archipié-lago Canario. En las conexiones con Fuerteventura, BinterCanarias ofrece una media diaria de hasta 40 conexiones, entre vuelos de ida y de vuelta.

Ende September präsentierte BinterCanarias die Skulptur, die das Unternehmen der Stadt Puerto del Rosario schenkt und die in der Avenida Marítima aufgestellt wird. Bei der Enthüllung, die zur gleichen Zeit stattfand wie die Festlichkeiten zu Ehren der Heiligen Jungfrau „Nuestra Señora del Rosario“, waren der Bürgermeister der Stadt, Marcial Morales, und andere Politiker der Insel anwesend. Die Flugge-sellschaft wurde vom ihrem Vorsitzenden, Pedro A. del Castillo, dem Generalkoordinator Santana, und dem Direktor für Kommunikation und Image, José Luis Reina vertreten.

Die ungefähr 85 Kilo schwere Bronzeskulptur stellt eine junge Ziege dar und wurde von dem auf Fuer-teventura wohnhaften Künstler Emiliano Hernández und von dem Unternehmen FunchoEscultura reali-siert. Zur Erinnerung an den ersten Flug von BinterCa-narias nach Fuerteventura vor zwanzig Jahren wurde die Skulptur nach der Flugnummer benannt: NT 202.

Die Schenkung dieser Skulptur geschieht im Rahmen mehrer besonderer Aktionen der Flugge-sellschaft auf Fuerteventura, die damit begannen, dass ein neues Flugzeug des Unternehmens auf den Namen Baifo (Zicklein) getauft wurde. Im Jahr 2009 führt BinterCanarias eine bedeutende Promotion für die Käse aus Fuerteventura auf regio-naler Ebene durch. Es ist die einzige Fluggesellschaft, die alle Flughäfen des kanarischen Archipels anfliegt. Sie bietet im Durchschnitt täglich 40 Verbindungen nach Fuerteventura an.

BinterCanarias commemorates their first flight on the island with the donation of a sculpture

At the end of September, BinterCanarias presented the sculpture they donated to Puerto del Rosario that will be displayed on Avenida Marítima. Llega la festividad de Todos los Santos y con ella la particular lucha de la tradición de los finados para evitar el dominio de un rito importado del mundo anglosajón: Halloween. Una celebración en boga, respaldada por el cine y la televisión, que ha ido ganando terreno en toda España.

En las Islas Canarias, tras décadas en las que, de forma paulatina, la Noche de los Finados fue quedando en el olvido hasta casi desaparecer, en lo últimos años la tradición vuelve con fuerza en diversos municipios con la intención de recuperar la celebración canaria de los difuntos.

La Fiesta de los Finados, una expresión que en tiempos pasados era muy común en toda Canarias para referirse a los difuntos, se celebraba antaño la noche anterior al Día de los Difuntos. Hoy, sin em-bargo, se conmemora en la noche del 31 de octubre, víspera de Todos los Santos.

¿EN QUÉ CONSISTE LA FIESTA?Frente al truco o trato, las calabazas y las fiestas

de disfraces, la tradición canaria apuesta por el re-surgir de una celebración que forma parte de nuestra cultura desde tiempos lejanos.

La Noche de los Finados se distingue por su carácter familiar, ya que era la mujer de más edad de cada una de las familias la que se encargaba de recordar a sus finados, evocar sus virtudes y contar sus historias. Todas sus palabras, escuchadas por familia y amigos, se acompañaban de una degustación de los productos típicos del recién estrenado otoño. Castañas, nueces,

almendras o manzanas asadas estaban siempre pre-sentes. Además, no faltaban los dulces típicos como los bollos de anís o los queques, para todos los que no podían permitirse comprar huesitos de santos.

Y para beber anís, vino dulce o ron miel en una noche que se prolongaba hasta la madrugada con bailes y canciones típicas. Era entonces cuando la fiesta salía de las casas para tomar las calles con las taifas y las parrandas, pero siempre con la con-sideración que la ocasión merecía.

En definitiva, una celebración popular en las zonas rurales vinculada al comienzo de una nueva estación que se celebraba, año tras año, para mostrar respeto a los difuntos.

DOS FIESTAS COMPATIBLESLa intención de los que trabajan duro para que

la Noche de los Finados vuelva a tener el espacio que se merece no es, ni mucho menos, acabar con Halloween. El objetivo es que ambas fiestas puedan convivir. Que los canarios conozcan la historia de sus tradiciones y disfruten de ellas, que las revivan en colegios, asociaciones, pueblos y ciudades. Que vuelvan a compartir la magia de un festejo familiar sin que esto impida que salgan los disfraces a la calle.

Este año es una buena oportunidad para impedir que se pierda el legado de nuestros antepasados. Ce-lebra la noche de los Finados y súmate a la tradición.

All Saints Day celebrations are imminent and they also bring the peculiar opposition of the Finados tradition with the Anglo-Saxon tradition of Halloween. A fashionable celebration, supported by the cinema and television, which has been gaining in popularity all over Spain.

In the Canary Islands, after decades where gra-dually Noche de los Finados (night of the deceased) had been sinking into oblivion almost to the point of disappearing, over the past few years the tradition has been making a come back in a few municipali-ties where they intend to promote and introduce this Canarian tradition of the deceased again.

Finados celebrations used to be very common all over the Canaries when referring to the defunct; it used to be celebrated on the eve of Day of the Dead. Nowadays however, it is commemorated on 31st October, on the eve of All Saints Day.

WHAT DOES THIS CELEBRATION CONSIST OF?Faced with the “Trick or Treat”, pumpkins and the

disguises, the Canarian tradition has brought back a tradition that comes from a very old fashioned culture.

Das Fest der Verstorbenen war in der Vergangenheit auf den ganzen Kanaren eine weit verbreitete Tradi-tion, um die Toten zu Ehren. Es wurde in der Nacht vor dem Tag der Verstorbenen gefeiert. Heute dagegen wird es in der Nacht des 31. Oktober gefeiert, am Vorabend von Allerheiligen.

Im Gegensatz zu der Schminke, den Kürbissen und der Verkleidung setzt die kanarische Tradition darauf, eine Feier aus der Kultur unserer Vorfahren wiederzubeleben.

Die Nacht der Verstorbenen zeichnet sich durch ihren familiären Charakter aus, denn die älteste Frau jeder Familie war dafür verantwortlich, an ihre Verstorbenen zu erinnern, ihre Tu-genden zu preisen und Geschichten zu erzählen. Zu den Geschichten, denen Verwandte und Freunde zuhör-ten, gab es typische Produkte des Her-bstes, der gerade begonnen hatte: Kastanien, Nüsse, Mandeln und Bra-täpfel waren immer dabei. Außerdem fehlten die typis-chen Süßigkeiten wie Anisbrötchen und Kuchen denjenigen nicht, die es sich nicht leis-ten konnten, die süßen „Huesitos de Santos“ aus Marzipan zu kaufen.

Man trank Anis, süßen Wein und Rum mit Honig in dieser Nacht, in der bis zum Morgengrauen getanzt und gesungen wurde. Dann verließen die Feiernden die Häuser und zogen in Gruppen durch die Straßen,

The objective is to get both celebrations to coexist, to get the Canarians to find out about their traditions and enjoy them, to make them come back through schools, associations, villages and town. The aim is for people to share the magic of a family celebration that does not stop them from getting out in the streets fancy dressed.

This is a great opportunity to avoid loosing our ancestor’s traditions. Celebrate Noche de los Finados and join the tradition.

Tiene una mirada dulce e inteligente y una voz suave. Es una mujer que proyecta calma y serenidad, cualidades que en una persona dedicada a la labor política tiene mucho mérito.

Nos confiesa que entre un periodo político y otro tiene que tomarse un descanso, porque a veces la vida política la supera.

Casada, madre de familia y maestra de profesión, nos explica que la docencia es lo que más le gusta.

¿Nació en esta isla?Sí, en Agua de Bueyes donde residí hasta que me

case en el año 1985; luego viví en Antigua aunque ejercí mi profesión en Gran Tarajal, en el Colegio García Blairzy durante siete años y luego, más tarde, regresé a Antigua donde continué la labor docente hasta el año 2007, cuando me presenté a las elec-ciones del Cabildo.Pero este no ha sido su primer cargo político, ¿No es así?

En las primeras elecciones democráticas estuve en el Cabildo como consejera durante dos años y tam-bién en el Ayuntamiento de Antigua como consejera durante cuatro años más. Posteriormente, entre 1986 y 1989, fui de nuevo consejera en Antigua; esta vez lo dejé antes de terminar el cargo. En este año 1989 nació mi tercera hija y desde esa fecha me dedique a mi familia. Posteriormente, desde 2007, aunque no estaba en mis objetivos volver a la política, aquí estoy de nuevo.¿Cuál es su labor en esta conserjería de Cultura y Patrimonio Artístico?

Es muy amplia, hay mucho por hacer y mucho lo que ya se ha realizado. En el tema cultural de la isla coordinamos desde aquí todas las actividades rela-cionadas con los tres auditorios de la isla, y también los locales “B” que son centros que no reúnen todas las infraestructuras adecuadas y que se necesitan programar de otra manera.

Referente a los auditorios ya esta programada la construcción de auditorios tanto en Pájara como en Antigua y, en estos momentos, se están elaborando los proyectos.

También abarcamos el centro bibliotecario y todas las exposiciones de arte tanto en el centro Juan Is-mael como en las salas de Corralejo, Gran Tarajal, Casa de los Coroneles etc.¿Esto significa que todo lo que los ciudadanos podemos disfrutar en el campo artístico y cultu-ral ha pasado primeramente por su filtro?

Sí, efectivamente y en función de los recursos que tenemos le damos luz verde.

También nuestra labor es llevar actividad cultural a todos los pueblos coincidiendo con sus fiestas po-pulares en colaboración con sus ayuntamientos y en los meses de julio, agosto y septiembre se concentra mas del 50 % de las fiestas de Fuerteventura.

Debemos agradecerle la Agenda Cultural que se ha creado en su legislatura, y que por fin nos avisa con antelación de las actividades que se darán durante el mes. Antes era casi imposible asistir a los diferentes eventos por falta de información a tiempo.

Además, en la agenda hay una hoja de inscripción para los interesados y se les comunica directamente por medio de mensajes de móvil o también por e-mail, cualquier cambio o actividad que pueda surgir y no estuviese programada.Y referente al patrimonio artístico ¿qué nos pue-de contar?

El Cabildo de Fuerteventura lleva desde hace 10 años haciendo una gran labor de restauración de patrimonio en la isla. Es mucho lo que se ha hecho, pero aún hay mucho por hacer.

En estos momentos se están restaurando los cuadros de Miranda en La Oliva, el retablo de la iglesia de la Ntra. Sra. de Regla en Pájara, las andas de Betancuria, de El Time, de La Matilla, y ya se presentó la silla de la iglesia de Sta. Ana, la puerta de la sacristía y el púlpito de la iglesia del Valle de Santa Inés. Son obras de gran envergadura, porque al ser edificaciones antiguas los techos no suelen estar en buenas condiciones y les entra agua, como en el caso de la iglesia de Tefía de la que tuvimos que rehacer el techo completamente.

Pedro Alcántara y aportará 100.000 € para poder terminar esta ermita. Por otra parte nosotros este año restauramos el púlpito y el cuadro de Ánimas de este mismo lugar.¿Es muy grande el patrimonio eclesiástico de Fuerteventura?

Sí mucho. Estamos en conversaciones con los representantes de la iglesia para que se puedan abrir al turismo y al público en general todos estos lugares que estamos restaurando. Se han pedido presupuestos a diferentes empresas para poner au-dio guías y que, con lo que ellas generen, se pueda autofinanciar el mantenimiento de estas iglesias. Sería muy hermoso que pudiéramos hacer una ruta de ermitas que son de gran valor artístico en la zona centro de la isla.¿Cuáles son sus objetivos antes de acabar su legislatura?

En estos momentos de crisis queremos seguir programando actividades y mejoras en el terreno cultural, pero sobre todo ampliar el terreno de la formación artística dando cursos de calidad.¿De qué cursos hablamos?

Ya el año pasado tuvimos un profesor de arte dra-mático dando cursos en distintos lugares. Queremos seguir dando cursos de cine, técnicas audiovisuales, animación, pintura, etc., ya que nuestra intención es crear una escuela insular de arte dramático en un futuro próximo.¿Dónde se realizan estos cursos?

En el centro Juan Ismael en Puerto, pero también en Morro Jable, en Gran Tarajal y algunos en Antigua. Hay una fecha de preinscripción y dan comienzo en distintas fechas.

She has a kind and clever look and a soft voice. This is a woman who irradiates calm and serenity, qualities that are very prized for a person who dedi-cates herself to politics.

She confesses that she takes a break from politics every so often as life in politics sometimes can get overbearing.

A wife and mother, she is a teacher and explains that teaching is what she prefers the most.

Were you born on this island?Yes, in Agua de Bueyes where I lived until I got ma-

rried in 1985; then I lived in Antigua although I used to teach in Gran Tarajal, in Colegio García Blairzy for seven years and then I came back to Antigua where I carried on teaching until 2007 when I went as can-didate at the Cabildo’s elections.But this was not your first political positions, was it?

In the first democratic elections I entered at the Cabildo as councillor for two years and I was also at Antigua’s Ayuntamiento as councillor for four more years. Then between 1986 and 1989 I was councillor again in Antigua; this time I left before finishing the term. In 1989 my third daughter was born and from that date on I dedicated myself to my family. And since 2007, although it was not my ambition to come back to politics, here I am again.What are your duties at the Culture and Artistic Heritage Council?

They are very varied. There is a lot to do still and much has been done already. As for culture on the island, we are coordinating all the activities related to three auditoriums on the island and also the “B” locals. Those are centres that do not have all the ade-quate infrastructures and that have to be programme in a different manner.

Regarding the auditoriums, the construction of auditoriums both in Pájara and Antigua are already programmed and at present we are working on their projects.

We also take care of the library centre and all the art exhibitions both in the Juan Ismael centre and in the halls of Corralejo, Gran Tarajal, Casa de los Coroneles, etc.Does this means that everything we enjoy re-garding art and culture has first been filtered through you?

Yes, that is true, and it is according to our resources that we give the go ahead or not.

Our task also consists of bringing cultural activities to all the villages according to their popular celebra-tions in collaboration with their Ayuntamiento and over 50% of the celebrations in Fuerteventura take place in July, August and September.We are thankful for the Cultural Agenda that has been created during your term, which finally informs us beforehand of all the activities taking place during the month. Previously it used to be almost impossible to assist to the various events for lack of information on time.

Furthermore, our agenda includes a subscription page for those who would like to be informed directly by a message on their mobile phone or by e-mail of any changes or activities that come up and that may not have been previously programmed.What can you tell us about Artistic Heritage?

Fuerteventura’s Cabildo has been carrying out a lot of restoration work on the island’s heritage for

the past 10 years. A lot has been done and there is still a lot to do.

At present we are restoring the Miranda paintings

in La Oliva, the altarpiece in Nuestra Señora de Regla Church in Pájara, procession statues of Betancuria, El Time, and La Matilla, and the Clergy Chair of Sta Ana has already been completed as well as the sacristy door and pulpit of the church of Valle de Santa Inés. Those are large projects as those old buildings’ roofs tend to be in quite poor condition and let the rain water in, like in Tefía’s church for example where we had to replace to entire roof.

On the other hand the Canarian Government is restoring mural paintings in San Pedro Alcántara’s chapel and will give 100.000 euros worth of funding to finish the chapel’s refurbishment. Also, this year we are restoring the pulpit and the Ánimas painting of this chapel.Is Fuerteventura’s ecclesiastical heritage impor-tant?

Yes it is. We are currently discussing with represen-tatives of the church to get to open to tourism and the public in general all those places that we are res-toring. We have asked various companies for quotes to install an audio guide network that will generate an income in order to get churches to self-finance their maintenance. It would be great to create a route of chapels as this type of artistic heritage is quite rich in the central area of the island.What are your objectives before reaching the end of your term?

In those moments of crisis we would like to keep on planning activities and improvements on the cultural scene, but overall we would like to increase the area of artistic training by providing quality courses.What courses are those?

Last year already we had a drama art teacher who taught in various locations. We would like to continue providing courses on cinema, audiovisual techniques, animation, painting, etc. as our intention is to create a drama art school on the island in the not too dis-tant future.Where do those courses take place?

In the Juan Ismael centre in Puerto del Rosario, but also in Morro Jable, Gran Tarajal, and some in Antigua. There is a pre-inscription date and they all have different start dates.

Ja, in Agua de Bueyes, wo ich lebte, bis ich 1985 heiratete. Dann lebte ich in Antigua, aber ich arbei-tete sieben Jahre in Gran Tarajal, im „Colegio García Blairzy“. Dann kehrte ich nach Antigua zurück, wo ich unterrichtete, bis ich im Jahr 2007 bei den Wahlen für den Cabildo kandidierte.Dies war jedoch nicht Ihr erstes politisches Amt. Stimmt das?

Es gibt viel zu tun und es ist auch schon viel getan worden. Wir koordinieren hier alle Aktivitäten, die mit den drei Auditorien der Insel zu tun haben sowie mit den B-Lokalen, dies sind Zentren, die nicht über die notwendigen Infrastrukturen verfügen und ein anderes Programm benötigen.

Es ist schon geplant, sowohl in Pájara als auch in Antigua Auditorien zu bauen. Zurzeit werden die Pläne entwickelt.

Wir sind auch für die Bibliothek und alle Kuns-tausstellungen zuständig, die sowohl im Centro Juan Ismael als auch in den Räumlichkeiten von Corralejo, Gran Tarajal, Casa de los Coroneles usw. stattfinden.

Bedeutet dies, dass Sie für alles zuständig sind, was wir an Kunst und Kultur zu sehen bekommen?

Ja, das stimmt, und unsere Entscheidungen hängen von den uns zur Verfügung stehenden Mitteln ab.

Wir sind auch dafür zuständig, in allen Ortschaften gemeinsam mit deren Verwaltung kulturelle Aktivi-täten parallel zu den örtlichen Volksfesten zu orga-nisieren. Mehr als 50 % der Feste von Fuerteventura finden im Juli, August und September statt.Wir müssen uns bei Ihnen für die kulturelle Agen-da bedanken, die Sie in der Legislaturperiode geschaffen haben, so dass wir endlich rechtzei-tig über die Aktivitäten informiert werden, die im Laufe des Monats stattfinden. Früher war es fast unmöglich, an den verschiedenen Events teilzunehmen, weil man nie rechtzeitig Bescheid wusste.

Außerdem gibt es in der Agenda ein Anmeldungs-formular für Interessierte, denen jegliche mögliche Änderung der von ihnen gewählten Aktivität per SMS oder E-Mail mitgeteilt wird.

Und was können Sie uns über das künstlerische Erbe erzählen?

Der Cabildo von Fuerteventura tut seit 10 Jahren sehr viel für die Restaurierung des künstlerischen Erbes der Insel. Es ist schon viel getan worden, aber es gibt noch viel zu tun.

Zurzeit sind wir dabei, die Bilder von Miranda in La Oliva, das Retabel der Kirche Iglesia de la Ntra. Sra. de Regla in Pájara, das Traggestell von Betancuria, El Time und La Matilla zu restaurieren. Der Stuhl der Kirche Iglesia de Sta. Ana, die Tür der Sakristei und die Kanzel der Kirche Iglesia del Valle de Santa Inés wurden schon präsentiert. Es sind sehr umfangreiche Arbeiten, denn in diesen alten Gebäuden sind die Dächer normalerweise nicht in gutem Zustand, so dass Wasser durchsickert. Dies war zum Beispiel der Fall der Kirche von Tefía, wo wir das Dach ganz und gar erneuern mussten.

Außerdem restauriert die kanarische Regierung die Wandbilder der Wallfahrtskapelle Ermita de San Pedro Alcántara und wird 100.000 € in die Arbeiten investieren, um diese Wallfahrtkapelle fertig zu ste-llen. Wir restaurieren zurzeit die Kanzel und das Bild der Seelen der gleichen Kapelle.Ist das Kirchenerbe auf Fuerteventura sehr groß?

Ja. Wir führen Gespräche mit den Vertretern der Kirche, damit wir alle Gebäude, die wir zurzeit res-taurieren, für den Tourismus und das allgemeine Publikum zugänglich machen können. Wir haben verschiedene Unternehmen um Kostenvoranschlä-ge gebeten, um Audioführer zu erstellen, durch die die Instandhaltung der Kirchen finanziert werden kann. Es wäre sehr schön, wenn wir eine Route der Wallfahrtskirchen schaffen könnten, da diese einen großen künstlerischen Wert haben und im Zentrum der Insel liegen.Was möchten Sie bis zum Ende der Legislaturpe-riode erreichen?

In dieser Krisenzeit möchten wir weiterhin Aktivi-täten anbieten und das kulturelle Angebot verbes-sern, und vor allem möchten wir die künstlerische Ausbildung verbessern, indem wir Kurse von hoher Qualität anbieten.Von was für Kurse sprechen Sie?

Schon im vergangen Jahr hatten wir einen Lehrer für Schauspielunterricht, der an verschiedenen Or-ten Kurse gab. Wir möchten weitere Kurse für Kino, audiovisuelle Techniken, Animation, Malerei usw. organisieren, denn wir beabsichtigen eine Inselschule für Bühnenkunst zu eröffnen.Wo finden diese Kurse statt?

Im Centro Juan Ismael in Puerto, aber auch in Morro Jable, Gran Tarajal, und einige finden auch in Antigua statt. Es gibt eine Anmeldungsfrist, und dann beginnen die verschiedenen Kurse zu verschiedenen Terminen.

El primer contacto de esta canaria de Las Palmas con este país andino, fue en la región de Araucanía, en la casa de un amigo que la invitó, en unas vaca-ciones de 1998, a visitar Chile. Al tiempo se casó e hizo de Chile su lugar de residencia. Actualmente lo considera su segunda patria “o la tercera- nos cuenta- ya que también añoro mi querido Sahara”.

Maribel, que es graduada social, trabajó a su llegada, con un centro de mujeres y colaborando con comunidades indígenas hasta su jubilación. Al presente, dedica su tiempo a escribir. Ha publicado varios libros y también participa en numerosas en-cuentros y recitales poéticos dentro del entorno lite-rario chileno en el que se ha integrado de tal manera que “En algunos lugares me consideran escritora chilena” – nos comenta.

También dedica parte de su tiempo a presidir una agrupación cultural en la isla de Quinchao, en el ar-chipiélago de Chiloé, en la Patagonia chilena.

Afirma que “Chile es un país tranquilo, ahora vivo en una comunidad rural, en una playa rodeada de lobos marinos, cisnes y bosques… Un verdadero paraíso que no podría cambiar por ningún otro. La integración con la gente de mi entorno ha sido realmente fácil. La gente aquí es maravillosa, muy amable y hospitalaria. En todo momento, desde mi llegada, he sintonizado con sus problemas y sus vivencias.

tierra natal. “Adaptarme al frío ha sido lo más difícil. Vivo cerca del Polo Sur donde sufrimos temperaturas bajo cero, tenemos lluvias constantes. ¡He tenido que aprender a usar la chimenea para poder convivir con estas temperaturas extremas!

En cuanto a sus planes de futuro, nos relata: “Viajo a Canarias al menos una vez al año para ver a mis hijos y nietos a los que añoro tremendamente, pero creo que seguiré viviendo en este país, no tengo planes por el momento de volver a España.



The first contact of this Canarian lady of Las Palmas with this Andean country was in the area of Arauca-nía, in the home of a friend who invited her for some holidays in Chile in 1998. She has also dedicated part of her time to presiding a cultural group on the island of Quinchao, in the archi-pelago of Chiloé, in Chilean Patagonia. She says that “Chile is a quiet country; I now live in a rural community, on a beach surrounded by seals, swans and woods… A real paradise that I couldn’t leave for anywhere else. My integration with people of this community was really easy. People are truly wonderful, very kind and hospitable. At all times, since the moment I arrived, I was in tune with their problems and their experiences.

Undeniably, she shares her nostalgia for her family, for the climate and the sun of her native country. “Adapting to the cold was the hardest for me. I live close to the South Pole where we endure temperatu-res below zero, and it rains constantly. I have had to learn how to use a chimney in order to live with such extreme temperatures!

As for her future plans, she says “I go back to the Canaries at least once per year to see my children and grandchildren who I miss terribly, but I believe that I will continue living in this country, I don’t have plans to come back to Spain at present”.

Außerdem widmet sie einen Teil ihrer Zeit dem Vorsitz einer kulturellen Gruppe der Insel Quinchao, die zum Archipel von Chiloé im chilenischen Patago-nien gehört.

“An manchen Orten werde ich als chilenis-che Schriftstellerin betrachtet”

Sie sagt: „Chile ist ein ruhiges Land, jetzt lebe ich in einer ländlichen Gemeinde, an einem Strand inmit-ten von Seelöwen, Schwänen und Wäldern … Es ist ein wahres Paradies, das ich für keinen anderen Ort verlassen könnte. Es war für mich relativ leicht, mich hier zu integrieren. Die Leute hier sind wunderbar, sie sind sehr liebenswürdig und gastfreundlich. Seit meiner Ankunft habe ich immer mit ihren Problemen und ihren Erfahrungen identifiziert.

Natürlich vermisst sie ihre Familie sowie das Klima und die Sonne ihrer Heimat. “Das Schwerste war, mich an die Kälte zu gewöhnen. Ich lebe in der Nähe des Südpols, wo wir Temperaturen unter Null haben, außerdem regnet es ständig. Ich musste lernen, einen Kamin zu benutzen, um mit diesen extremen Temperaturen leben zu können!“

Über ihre Zukunftspläne erzählt sie uns: „Ich reise mindestens einmal im Jahr auf die Kanaren, um meine Kinder und meine Enkel zu besuchen, die ich sehr vermisse. Ich habe zurzeit allerdings nicht vor, nach Spanien zurück zu kehren.“

Damien and Philipe are two young French businessmen who opened their business 10 years ago in Fuerteventura. In their shop, covering 900 m2 in Risco Prieto, you will find a large variety of items imported directly, without middlemen, from faraway and exotic countries: beautiful wooden furniture, antiques, small and large decoration items, rattan, flowerpots, fountains, etc. and also as a novelty, beautiful oriental jewellery.

Nuestra pequeña parcela de Universo, el Sistema Solar, está constituida por el Sol y los planetas con sus satélites, pero también por muchísimos otros objetos, más o menos pequeños, llamados cuerpos menores. Entre éstos, los más llamativos son los cometas; en este Año Internacional de la Astrono-mía 2009 tuvimos la suerte de recibir la visita del C/2007 N3 (Lulin). Pero además hay cientos de miles de pedruscos, los asteroides, que de vez en cuando obtienen la atención de los medios si presentan algún riesgo de impacto con la Tierra. Estos suce-sos ya ocurrieron en el pasado con consecuencias catastróficas para la vida en el planeta, y desde allí la importancia de estudiar las características de los asteroides, como la órbita, el tamaño, la forma, la composición y la densidad.

Esta tarea resulta muy compleja con objetos de pocos kilómetros de diámetro, que son la mayoría y los más peligrosos, pues los actuales telescopios no tienen una potencia suficiente para distinguir los de-talles. Afortunadamente existe un método novedoso que ofrece resultados bastante precisos: se trata de captar la ‘sombra’ del objeto cuando pasa justo entre la Tierra y una estrella brillante.

tándola durante un par de segundos, y el único lugar del planeta donde este tránsito se pudo documentar fue el norte de Fuerteventura. Por eso, se reunión aquí un grupo de astrónomos profesionales desde Francia e Italia y con la colaboración de la Agrupación Astronómica de Fuerteventura se pudieron realizar unas medidas de notable calidad, que apuntan a que Bárbara tiene forma y tamaño muy parecidos a la parte norte de la isla, entre Corralejo y Pozo Negro. Con este evento, que puso Fuerteventura en el centro de las miradas del mundo científico, parece que el Universo quiso dar su particular apoyo al proyecto de Fuerteventura Reserva Starlight.

Our little space of the Universe, the Solar system, consists of the Sun and planets and their satellites, but also many objects, more or less small, called minor bodies. Amongst those, the most striking ones are comets; during this 2009 International Year of Astronomy we were lucky enough to have the visit of C/2007 N3 (Lulin). But there are also hundreds of thousands of large stones, asteroids that from time to time catch our attention if they present a risk of impact with the Earth. This already occurred in the past with catastrophic consequences for life on our planet, and this justifies the importance of studying asteroids’ characteristics, their orbit, size, shape, composition and density. This task can be very com-plex with objects that are few kilometres in diameter; they are in the majority and the most dangerous ones given that current telescopes are not powerful enough to show those details.

Thankfully there is a new method that gives rather precise results: it consists of capturing the shadow of the object when it comes between the Earth and a shiny star.

This is precisely what happened at dawn on Monday 5th October: asteroid 234, called Barbara, passed in front of star HIP 32822, close the constellation of Orion, occulting it for a few seconds and the only place on the planet where this transit could be docu-mented was the north of Fuerteventura. This is the reason why a group of professional astronomers from France and Italy got together and collaborated with Fuerteventura’s Astronomy Association (AAF) in order to carry out measurement of outstanding quality that showed that Barbara’s shape and size are very similar to the northern part of the island between Corralejo

Unsere kleine Parzelle Universum, das Sonnen-system, besteht aus der Sonne und den Planeten mit ihren Satelliten, aber auch aus zahlreichen mehr oder weniger kleinen Objekten, die kleinere Körper genannt werden. Unter diesen sind die Kometen die aufsehenerregendsten. In diesem internationalen Jahr der Astronomie 2009 hatten wir das Glück, dass uns C/2007 N3 (Lulin) besuchte. Aber außerdem gibt es Hunderttausende von Steinbrocken, die Asteroide, die manchmal die Aufmerksam der Medien auf sich ziehen, wenn irgendein Risiko besteht, dass sie mit der Erde zusammenstoßen. Derartige Zusammens-töße haben schon in de Vergangenheit stattgefun-den und hatten katastrophale Folgen für das Leben auf dem Planeten. Deshalb ist es sehr wichtig, die Eigenschaften der Asteroiden wie die Umlaufbahn, die Größe, die Form, die Zusammensetzung und die Dichte zu untersuchen.

Diese Aufgabe ist sehr kompliziert, da die Mehrzahl dieser Objekte einen Durchmesser von nur wenigen Kilometern hat. Diese sind außerdem die Gefährlichs-ten. Heute sind die Teleskope nicht stark genug, um die Details genau zu unterscheiden. Zum Glück gibt es eine neue Methode, mit der man relativ genaue Ergebnisse erhält: Man fängt den “Schatten” des Objektes genau dann ein, wenn es genau zwischen der Erde und einem leuchtenden Stern vorbei kommt.

From the Mirador you will have the best view of the cliffs, the sea and the small beach of this tiny typical fishing village. On the way to Ajuy, you will go through the magnificent valley of Vega de Rio Palma where you can visit the «Virgen de la Peña» Sanctuary, patron saint of the Island. Nació en Cantabria y un día decidió cambiar su vida y comenzar de nuevo y para ese cambio radical eligió Fuerteventura, isla que había conocido dos años antes.¿Tanto le impresionó la isla en ese viaje?

Me gustó mucho, pero ni por lo más remoto pasó por mi cabeza en ese momento venir a residir aquí. Luego diversas circunstancias me decidieron a cam-biar totalmente de vida y fue cuando Fuerteventura surgió de nuevo como un lugar adecuado.

Reunía muchas de las condiciones que yo necesi-taba: clima, mar, podía practicar windsurf, que me encanta....¿Desde cuando esa vocación de pintor?

Curiosamente yo nunca tuve intención de pintar, Llegue aquí en el año 2001, y en el 2003 me regala-ban un estuche de pinturas de pastel y el libro “Todo sobre la técnica del pastel” y así comenzó esta nueva etapa en mi vida; pinté durante un año a pastel y en la navidad siguiente me regalaban de nuevo un estuche y el libro “Todo sobre la técnica del óleo” y de nuevo comencé a practicar.

Llevo desde el año 2004 pintando al óleo y perfec-cionando el estilo y la técnica. He recibido algunos premios y he montado varias exposiciones en la isla con bastante éxito.Es sorprendente esta capacidad autodidacta, más aún, cuando vemos sus pinturas. ¿Alguna vez tomó clases de dibujo o alguna base que le permitiese comenzar en la pintura?

Nunca antes tuve interés por la pintura, no he estudiado bellas artes, ni dibujo.

Todo surgió a raíz de un dibujo con ceras de colegio que comencé a realizar una tarde mientras mi pareja leía una revista. Nos sorprendió a los dos y ella como mujer, más perspicaz, fue quien me siguió regalando los estuches y los libros.

Al principio era sólo un entretenimiento, pero poco a poco se ha ido convirtiendo en mi modo de vida. Hoy la pintura me absorbe por completo, es curioso como la vida a base de pequeños empujones me ha ido llevando hasta aquí.Ha creado un tipo de pequeños cuadros que pueden sustituir una lámina o tarjeta impresa de paisajes de Fuerteventura.

when Fuerteventura came to mind as an appropriate place. It possessed many aspects that I was looking for: climate, the ocean, possibility to wind-surf, which I love…How long have you had this painting vocation?

Curiously I never intended to paint. I arrived here in 2001 and in 2003 I got a case of pastel paints as a present and the book called “Everything about pastel techniques” and this is how this first stage of my life

started; I painted with pastels for one year and at the following Christmas I got a new painting case and the book called “Everything about oil painting techniques” and once again I started practising.

I have been doing oil paintings since 2004 and I have been perfecting the style and technique. I have received some prizes and organised a few successful exhibitions on the island.This self-taught ability is quite surprising, espe-cially when we see your paintings. Did you ever take drawing lessons or got some bases that helped you start painting?

I never had an interest in painting before, and never studied art or drawing.

It all started with a crayon drawing that I made one evening while my partner was reading a magazine. We were both surprised and she was quite perceptive and decided to buy me those painting cases.

At the beginning it was just a hobby but slowly it be-came my way of life. Nowadays painting is everything to me, it is curious how life has slowly steered me to this point.You have created small paintings that could substitute a picture card or printed picture of Fuerteventura’s landscapes.

Yes, the idea is that anyone can take away those small original oil paintings as a souvenir or as a pre-sent for the family. They are quite cheap, affordable for everyone and are quite easy to transport.

I have created some kind of exhibitions with various models that can be found in a few hotel receptions.

We can assure our readers that those small works of art capture Fuerteventura’s beaches, ocean and skies with a perfection that could be compared to that of a miniature artist.

Es ist erstaunlich, aber ich hatte nie die Absicht zu malen. Ich kam im Jahr 2001 hier her und 2003 bekam ich ein Kästchen mit Pastellfarben geschenkt und das Buch „Alles über die Pastelltechnik”. So be-gann dieser neue Abschnitt meines Lebens. Ich habe ein Jahr lang mit Pastellfarben gemalt. Dann bekam ich Weihnachten ein neues Kästchen und das Buch „Alles über die Öltechnik“ geschenkt und ich begann wieder zu üben.

Seit dem Jahr 2004 male ich mit Öl und perfektioniere ständig meinen Stil und meine Technik. Ich habe einige Preise gewonnen und hatte verschiedene Ausstellungen auf der Insel, die beim Publikum gut ankamen.Diese autodidaktische Fähigkeit ist überraschend, vor allem wenn wir Ihre Bilder betrachten. Haben Sie jemals Malunterricht genommen oder haben Sie irgendwelche anderen Grundlagen, die es Ihnen ermöglichten mit der Malerei anzufangen?

Ich habe mich früher nie für Malerei interessiert und habe weder Kunst- noch Zeichenunterricht genommen.

Alles begann mit einer Zeichnung, die ich an irgen-deinem Nachmittag mit Wachsfarben aus der Schule machte, während meine Partnerin eine Zeitschrift las.

Wir waren beide von dem Ergebnis überrascht. Sie ist scharfsinniger, da sie eine Frau ist, und schenkte mir die Farbkästchen und die Bücher.

Am Anfang war die Malerei nur ein Zeitvertreib, aber nach und nach wurde sie zu meinem Lebensinhalt. Heute nimmt sie meine ganze Zeit in Anspruch. Es ist interessant wie mich das Leben nach und nach dort hingebracht hat.Sie haben kleine Bilder geschaffen, die eine Bil-dtafel oder einen kleinen Druck der Landschaft von Fuerteventura ersetzen können.

Ja, ich möchte, dass jeder sich diese kleinen Ölbil-der als Souvenir oder als Geschenk für die Familie mitnehmen kann. Ihr Preis ist für jeden erschwinglich und sie können leicht transportiert werden.

Verschiedene meiner Modelle werden schon an den Rezeptionen einiger Hotel-Komplexe ausgestellt.

Anyone who visited the Nursery before will notice a lot of changes have been made, the first thing to be noticed is the Reception area which is now more welcoming and incorporates a seating area for pa-rents and is also used as our Story room. Themed rooms have been designed to encourage education in a role play environment and much more.

Predominately, we are a Pre-School Nursery for children from birth onwards, catering for early education which is incorporated around a role play environment, we teach children cooking, Literacy, Numeracy, languages and much more. We also offer facilities for the older child and Tourists in our play centre with Ball Pond, Bouncy Castle, pro-jector Screen for Films and our new Nintendo Wii, we hold after school clubs and provide homework help, Saturday Morning Fun Club and much more.

We aim to provide education for all ages as well as organised special events. Past events have included a Teddy Bears Picnic, a Trip to the Oceana-rium, a Snake Show (with REAL SNAKES) and also a Halloween Party. Our next event is a Christmas Party with a special visit from SANTA CLAUSE on Saturday 19th December, 1pm to 4pm.

Our Staff are multilingual, which so far include Spanish, English, Italian and French. On Mondays we offer Spanish Lessons for Locals and Holiday Spanish Lessons for the Tourist who wants to communicate and integrate with the Locals. Also,

on offer on Wednesdays are English Lessons for anyone who wants to learn. All Language lessons are for adults as well as children.

Children who would like a Party, for their Birth-day or any other celebration can also have this at our Play Centre, Saturday afternoons and anytime Sunday are available for hire at very reasonable rates. FERIA DE LAS ESTRELLAS El Ayuntamiento organizó en colaboración con el

Museo Elder de la Ciencia y la Tecnología, la Feria de las Estrellas, un lúdico e interesante encuentro entre científicos y astrónomos con los vecinos del municipio.

Esta Feria, que forma parte del programa cultural, Septenio, ofreció la posibilidad de realizar observa-ciones solares con telescopio, participar en talleres y actividades, así como poder realizar observaciones nocturnas y ver proyecciones explicadas de imágenes del universo y sus estrellas.

Se organizó en el Polideportivo y estuvo dirigido a grandes y pequeños interesados, aficionados o expertos que quisieran intercambiar opiniones y observaciones.

STARS’ FAIR The Ayuntamiento and the Elder Museum of Scien-

ce and Technology organised the Stars’ Fair, a fun and interesting encounter between scientists and astronomers with the neighbours of the Municipality.

This Fair, that is part of the cultural programme called Septenio, offered the possibility to use a telescope, participate in workshops, activities and nocturnal observations and watch projections and get explanations of images of the universe and its stars.

The event was organised in the Sports Centre and was aimed at people of all ages, amateurs or professionals who wanted to share opinions and observations.

Diese „Feria”, die zu dem Kulturprogramm „Sep-tenio” gehört, bietet die Möglichkeit, die Sonne mit einem Teleskop zu beobachten, an Workshops und Aktivitäten und an nächtlichen Beobachtungen teil-zunehmen sowie erklärende Projektionen von Bildern des Universums und seiner Sterne zu sehen.

El Ayuntamiento retoma el Curso gratuito de Calado que reúne una media de 15 asistentes semanalmen-

te y que aprenden en un ambiente relajado, silencioso y concentrado como dar cada puntada, cada doblez en el paño para conseguir este o aquel trazo.

El curso ha sido organizado por la Asociación Montejanana y pretende recuperar y fomentar la afición por el oficio tradicional del calado, que dio fama durante muchos años por su buen hacer a los vecinos del municipio.

El Curso se imparte de forma gratuita en las Escue-las Viejas junto a la Plaza, sin que tenga fecha para finalizar, ya que pretende prolongarse en el tiempo con el fin de ampliar esta escuela y este oficio entre jóvenes y mayores. A FREE HANDCRAFT COURSE RESCUES

THE ART OF CALADO EMBROIDERYThe Ayuntamiento resumes the free Calado embroi-

dery course that counts around 15 participants every week who learn in a relaxed, silent and concentrated atmosphere how to make each stitch, each fold in the fabric to achieve one design or another.

The course is organised by the Montejanana Asso-ciation and aims at promoting the traditional art of Calado embroidery that made this municipality quite famous for many years.

The course is free and takes place in the Viejas School close to the main Square, no end date is planned as it is hoped for this course to continue and promote this craft amongst both young people and elders.

KOSTENLOSER KUNSTHANDWERKSKURS FÜR DURCHBROCHENE STICKEREI

Die Gemeinde führt wieder einen kostenlosen Kurs für durchbrochene Stickerei durch, an dem ungefähr 15 Teilnehmer einmal pro Woche teilnehmen und in einer entspannten, ruhigen und konzentrierten Umgebung einen Stich lernen, um ein bestimmtes Muster zu schaffen.

Der Kurs wurde von dem Verein Asociación Monte-janana organisiert, der beabsichtigt, die traditionelle durchbrochene Stickerei wiederzubeleben und zu fördern, für die die Bürger der Gemeinde über Jahre bekannt waren.

Der Kurs ist kostenlos und findet in den „Escuelas Viejas“ neben der Plaza statt. Es gibt keinen fest-gesetzten Abschlusstermin, denn dieser Kurs soll lange dauern, um die Schule zu vergrößern und diese Tätigkeit Jungen und Alten beizubringen.

CASILLAS DE MORALES RENUEVA SU CANALIZACIÓN DE AGUAS, ALUMBRADO PÚBLICO Y CONEXIONES TELEFÓNICASEstas obras se abordarán simultáneamente a la

instalación soterrada de cableado para instalaciones eléctricas que proporcionen el alumbrado público de la luz. El acuerdo con Telefónica, aprovechará este momento de obras para soterrar el cableado nece-sario que garantice las comunicaciones y la conexión ADSL en toda la zona.

Cuando se cierren los conductos abiertos, enterran-do los diferentes servicios, se procederá a asfaltar, y se instalarán las estaciones de impulsión EDA que permitirán la distribución de agua depurada y de riego a las localidades de Agua de Bueyes, Casillas de Morales y Valles de Ortega.

TIONSThose projects will simultaneously occur during

the installation of underground electric cables that dispense electricity for public street lighting. The agreement with Telefónica consists of taking advan-tage of those trenches to bury the cables that will guarantee telecommunication and ADSL connection in the whole area.

Once the trenches are closed, tarmac will then be laid and EDA impulsion station will be installed for the distribution of treated and irrigation water to Agua de Bueyes, Casillas de Morales and Valles de Ortega.

Entre las primeras actuaciones, se sustituirán las imágenes y diferentes anuncios que aparecen en numerosos carteles, señales, y letreros luminosos por la imagen previamente seleccionada, que identificase la Zona Comercial del Castillo.

SERVICIO GRATUITO DE RECOGIDA DE MUEBLES Y ENSERES VIEJOS

El Ayuntamiento ofrece un servicio gratuito de re-cogida a domicilio de muebles y enseres viejos. Este Servicio evita que los muebles viejos, y otros ense-res, se acumulen junto a contenedores de basura o residuos, y facilita al vecino un servicio gratuito, sin necesidad de que tenga que trasladar los enseres que quiere desechar, tales como electrodomésticos, trastos viejos y mobiliario doméstico que en general, más allá de la puerta de su casa.

Este servicio se ofrece durante todo el año, y sólo precisa que el vecino interesado lo solicite por es-crito señalando los enseres a retirar y la dirección del particular. Los muebles deberán dejarse en el vestíbulo o entrada del inmueble antes de las 07:00 horas de la mañana.

El Servicio establece las siguientes rutas, los lu-nes en Agua de Bueyes, Valles de Ortega y Casillas de Morales, los martes en Antigua y Triquivijate, los miércoles en Los Alares, Pozo Negro, Las Salinas y El

Castillo, y los jueves y viernes en El Castillo y Costa de Antigua.

El Ayuntamiento ofrece este servicio a particulares, siendo otras vías las empleadas para comercios, industrias u otras actividades profesionales que lo precisen, quedando excluida la recogida de escom-bros, sanitarios, ni basuras.

FREE COLLECTION SERVICE FOR OLD FURNITURE AND POSSESSIONS

The Ayuntamiento offers a free Collection service from habitant’s homes for their unwanted furniture and possessions. This service prevents old furniture and other possessions to accumulate by waste bins and containers and provides neighbours with a free service that does not require for goods such as elec-trical white goods, junk and other household goods to be taken further than their front door.

This service is available all year round and only requires for persons who are interested to request in writing which goods need to be taken away and where from. Furniture will have to be left in the halls or entrances of buildings before 7 a.m.

The service is available on the following routes, on Mondays in Agua de Bueyes, Valles de Ortega and Casillas de Morales, on Tuesdays in Antigua and Tri-quivijate, on Wednesdays in Los Alares, Pozo Negro, Las Salinas and El Castillo, and on Thursdays and Fridays in El Castillo and Costa de Antigua.

Dieser Dienst wird das ganze Jahr über angeboten. Die interessierten Bürger müssen ihn nur schriftlich beantragen und dabei angeben, was für Gegenstände sie wegwerfen möchten, und die Adresse, wo diese abgeholt werden sollen. Die Möbel müssen vor 7.00 Uhr morgens in der Vorhalle oder im Eingang des Gebäudes abgestellt werden.

Der Dienst setzt folgende Strecken fest: Montags in Agua de Bueyes, Valles de Ortega und Casillas de Mo-rales, dienstags in Antigua und Triquivijate, mittwochs in Los Alares, Pozo Negro, Las Salinas und El Castillo und donnerstags in El Castillo und Costa de Antigua.

Die Gemeinde bietet diese Leistung Privatpersonen an, denn für Handel, Industrie und andere profes-sionelle Aktivitäten gibt es andere Möglichkeiten. Schutt, WCs und Müll sind von dieser Leistung aus-genommen.

EL CABILDO PREPARA LA REFORESTA-CIÓN DE 400 PLANTAS AUTÓCTONAS

El Cabildo, a través de la Consejería de Medio Am-

biente, Agricultura, Ganadería y Pesca se encuentra preparando una actuación de reforestación que permitirá transplantar a la zona de Morro Velosa (Betancuria) 400 ejemplares de plantas autóctonas procedentes de los viveros de la Corporación.

Esta acción se enmarca dentro del programa de

formación en flora y fauna del Cabildo, ‘NaturSavia. Repoblaciones y atención a la fauna’, en el que par-ticipa una quincena de alumnos mayores de 45 años procedentes del Servicio Canario de Empleo.

Las especies incluidas en esta reforestación (brezo, acebuche, peralillo canario y africano o al-mácigo, entre otras) se han seleccionado en base a la abundancia de sus poblaciones en el territorio insular, así como en su capacidad de adaptación a las condiciones medioambientales de la zona de Morro Velosa.

Se ha utilizado una novedosa técnica de abono radicular consistente en aplicar fertilizantes espe-ciales directamente a las raíces de las plantas, lo que permite que se adapten más rápidamente y con mayores posibilidades de supervivencia al nuevo entorno en que se ubican. TATION OF 400 INDIGENOUS PLANTS The Cabildo with the Environment, Agriculture,

Livestock and Fishing Council has been preparing the reforestation that will consist of transplanting to the area of Morro Veloa (Betancuria) 400 indigenous plants from the Cabildo’s nurseries.

This project is part of the Cabildo’s flora and fauna training programme called “NaturSavia. Repopulation and attention to the fauna”, where around fifteen pu-pils aged over 45 years old coming from the Canarian Employment Services are taking part.

The species included in this reforestation project have been selected according to the abundance of their population on the island’s territory as well as their adaptation abilities to the environment condi-tions of Morro Velosa’s area.

New fertilising techniques consisting of applying fertiliser directly on the plants’ roots were used, which ensures they can adapt quicker and with more chan-ces of survival in their new environment.DER CABILDO BEREITET DIE WIEDERAU-FFORSTUNG VON 400 EINHEIMISCHEN

PFLANZENARTEN VOR Das Amt für Umwelt, Landwirtschaft, Viehzucht und

Fischerei des Cabildo ist dabei eine Wiederauffors-tungsaktion vorzubereiten, durch die es ermöglicht wird, in der Gegend von Morro Velosa (Betancuria) 400 Exemplare einheimischer Pflanzen aus den Pflanzungen der Inselregierung zu pflanzen.

Diese Aktion erfolgt im Rahmen des Ausbildungs-



programms über Flora und Fauna des Cabildo: „Na-turSavia - Wiederaufforstung und Pflege der Fauna“. An diesem Programm neben ungefähr fünfzehn über 45-jährige Schüler teil, die vom kanarischen Beschäf-tigungsdienst kommen.

Die zu diesem Wiederaufforstungsprogramm gehörenden Arten (Heidekraut, wilder Ölbaum, kanarischer Maytenus, Mastixbaum, usw.) wurden ausgewählt, weil ihre Populationen in großer Zahl auf der Insel vertreten sind und weil diese Pflanzen in der Lage sind, sich an das Klima von Morro Velosa anzupassen.

Es wurde eine neuartige Wurzeldünungstechnik d verwendet, die darin besteht, besondere Düngemittel direkt auf die Wurzeln der Pflanzen aufzutragen, so dass diese sich schneller an ihre neue Umgebung gewöhnen und bessere Überlebenschancen haben.

craftsman José Carmelo Vera who created the carved wooden box that contained the presents.

TALLER PARA ‘ACERCAR’ LOS ORDENA-DORES A NIÑOS Y NIÑAS

Acercar la informática y los ordenadores a niños y niñas de entre 5 y 8 años de edad ha sido el objetivo de una propuesta del área de Cultura que, bajo el títu-lo genérico de ‘Descubrir el ordenador’, se desarrolló en la Biblioteca Municipal el pasado mes de octubre.

La iniciativa estuvo impartida por monitores y mo-nitoras, que expusieron, entre otras cuestiones, qué es un ordenador, para qué sirve, cómo usarlo, las posibilidades de la internet o el correo electrónico.

El taller se impartió en un total de, aproximada-mente, 16 horas lectivas, en las que los pequeños se familiarizaron con las nuevas tecnologías de la informática e información.

La Biblioteca Municipal de Pájara casco está dotada de varios ordenadores disponibles para los usuarios y, aparte de conexión directa a Internet, dispone de zona wifi, por lo que quienes dispongan de portátiles y lo deseen también pueden ‘conectarse’

To bring IT and computers closer to children aged between 5 and 8 years old is the objective of the Culture department’s project called “Discover com-puters” which has been taking place in the Municipal

Library during the month of October.Monitors explained subjects such as what compu-

ters are, how to use them, possibilities of internet or e-mail, to name of few.

The course consisted of approximately 16 hours when children familiarised themselves with new IT and information technologies.

de Surf y BodyBoard de Garcey, evento deportivo organizado por el Club El Batiero.

La playa de Garcey, en la costa de Barlovento de Pájara, fue el escenario de esta competición, que cada año congrega a deportistas de Fuerteventura y otras islas del archipiélago.

En Garcey se instalaron varias carpas para propiciar sombra, albergar el material deportivo, la mesa de los jueces, etcétera, así como contenedores en los que depositar la basura que se genere durante el Campeonato.

tintas Escuelas de Juego del Palo de Fuerteventura participaron recientemente en el X Encuentro Insular de Juego del Palo, que se desarrolló en el Terrero de Puerto Cabras.

Las Escuelas de Juego del Palo de Fuerteventura tienen sus sedes en Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Villaverde y Corralejo, donde trabajan en la recupe-ración, mantenimiento y difusión de esta práctica vernácula lúdico-deportiva mediante un convenio de colaboración entre la Federación de Juego del Palo y el Cabildo Insular. Desde el año 2000 colaboran con el Programa ‘No Olvides Lo Nuestro’ de la Consejería de Deportes realizando numerosos talleres, exhibi-ciones, muestras, etc. por toda la geografía insular, como la exhibición que se celebró en el terrero de Casillas del Ángel con motivo de la presentación del equipo de lucha canaria Unión Temporal.

En el Encuentro participaron jugadores en repre-sentación de las cuatro Escuelas existentes. Games from Fuerteventura recently participated in the 10th Island Encounter of Juego del Palo that took place at the Terrero de Puerto Cabras.

The Juego del Palo Schools of Fuerteventura are based in Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Villaverde and Corralejo where they are aiming at preserving, maintaining and promoting this vernacular recrea-tional sport thanks to a collaboration agreement between the Juego del Palo Federation and the Island’s Cabildo. Since the year 2000, they have co-


llaborated with the programme called “No Olvides Lo Nuestro” (Don’t Forget What is Ours) from the Sports’ Council that created various workshops, exhibitions, shows, etc. all over the island, such as the exhibition organised on the Terrero of Casillas del Ángel for the presentation of the Canarian Wrestling team, Unión Temporal.

Die Palo-Schulen von Fuerteventura haben ihre Sit-ze in Puerto del Rosario, Gran Tarajal, Villaverde und Corralejo, wo sie an der Wiedereinführung, dem Erhalt und der Verbreitung dieses einheimischen Spiels ar-beiten. Es besteht ein Kooperationsabkommen zwis-chen der Föderation des Palo-Spiels und dem Cabildo der Insel. Seit dem Jahr 2000 arbeiten sie mit dem Programm „Vergesse das Unsere nicht (No Olvides Lo Nuestro)“ des Amtes für Sport zusammen und führen zahlreiche Workshops, Darbietungen, Ausstellungen usw. auf der ganzen Insel durch. España es el tercer país del mundo en consumo de bolsas de plástico de un solo uso, con una media de 238 al año por habitante. Su fabricación provoca más de 440.000 toneladas de CO2 que se despiden a la atmósfera y su descomposición llega después de 400 años. Con el fin de las bolsas tradicionales y el uso extensivo de las bolsas reutilizables, cada persona puede ahorrar más de 18.000 bolsas de un solo uso a lo largo de toda su vida.

Ante estos datos, la cadena de supermercados francesa Carrefour, ha encabezado el Plan nacional Integrado de Residuos y, desde el pasado mes de septiembre, ha ido eliminando las bolsas de plástico en diversas Comunidades Autónomas. Ahora, llega el turno de Canarias. El próximo 15 de noviembre se suprimirán las bolsas de plástico de las líneas de caja de todos los supermercados de Carrefour de las islas. Durante el periodo de transición, Carrefour facilitará a sus clientes bolsas reutilizables de forma totalmente gratuita.

El objetivo de la campaña es lograr concienciar a los clientes sobre la reutilización de los recursos, potenciar el reciclaje y reducir el consumo de bolsas de plástico. En este aspecto, se pretende contribuir al cuidado del medio ambiente con el uso de materiales sostenibles, como las bolsas de rafia, de algodón, de fécula y los carros plegables.

ALTERNATIVAS FRENTE AL PLÁSTICOLas alternativas frente a la tradicional bolsa de

plástico son muy variadas. Una de las opciones es la bolsa biodegradable hecha con almidón de papa

industrial, no comestible. Estas bolsas se degradan automáticamente en cuestión de meses y actúan como compost.

Otra opción, por la que apuestan empresas, insti-tuciones y asociaciones ecologistas son las bolsas y los envases reutilizables. Bolsas de algodón, bolsas monedero o carritos estarán cada vez más presentes en nuestro día a día.

INDUSTRIAS DE ENVASES PLÁSTICOSLos principales afectados por estas nuevas me-

didas son las industrias de envases de plásticos que, poco a poco, tienen que adaptarse a un nuevo mercado y centrar su producción en productos que respeten el medioambiente.

Empresas canarias como Plascan o Plastpel 95 se enfrentan a la nueva situación mientras comienzan a reinventarse. En el caso de Plascan, han apostado por los envases oxo-biodegradables. Estas bolsas

mundial de bolsas de plástico. Frente a las bolsas oxo, ellos apuestan por las biodegradables ya que, aunque su coste es mayor, son las únicas que no dejan residuos. En su política de compromiso con el medioambiente han introducido los bioplásticos, un

material fabricado a partir de recursos renovables como la patata, en lugar del petróleo. Tras su uso, los envases elaborados con bioplástico son totalmente ecológicos, puesto que el bioplástico es biodegra-dable, renovable, compostable, reciclable y no tiene CO2 adicional.

¿Y AHORA QUÉ?En estos momentos, y ante tantas novedades,

queda una pregunta en el aire: ¿Qué ocurrirá con el resto de envases de plástico? Si el consumo de bolsas en las líneas de caja es indiscriminado, no menos preocupante es el abuso de todo tipo de envases en productos tan diversos como el pan de molde, la sal o los yogures. Por lo tanto, esto solo debe ser el principio de un largo camino. ¿Cuál será el siguiente paso?

Spain is the third ranking country in the World for single use plastic bags consumption, with an average of 238 per habitant per year. Their manufacturing causes 440.000 tons of CO2 that is released in the atmosphere and their decomposition can take up to 400 years. With the end of traditional bags and ex-tensive use of reusable bags, each person can save over 18.000 single use bags along their life.

Faced with those figures, French supermarket chain Carrefour launched the Integrated National Waste Plan and since last September, they have eliminated plastic bags from various Autonomous Communities. It is now the Canaries’ turn. On 15th November, plastic bags will be removed from tills in all Carrefour supermarkets in the Canary Islands. During this transition period, Carrefour will provide their clients with free reusable bags.

This campaign aims to make people aware about reusing resources, promote recycling and reduce the use of plastic bags. In that respect, the objective is to contribute to the environment preservation by using sustainable materials, such as raffia, cotton, starch bags and foldable trolleys.

ALTERNATIVES TO PLASTICAlternatives to traditional plastic bags are plenti-

ful. One option is a biodegradable bag made with non-edible industrial potatoes starch. Those bags disintegrate automatically within a few months and can be made into compost.

Another option, which tends to be businesses’ and ecologist associations’ chosen one are reusable bags and cans. Cotton bags, purses and trolleys are more and more present.

PLASTIC CONTAINER BUSINESSESThose most affected by those new measures are in

the plastic container businesses that slowly have to adapt to a new market and concentrate their produc-tion towards products that respect the environment.

llen Plastiktüten. Eine Lösung sind die biologisch abbaubare Tüten, die aus nicht essbarem industrie-llem Stärkemehl aus Kartoffeln hergestellt werden. Diese Tüten werden innerhalb von wenigen Monaten automatisch abgebaut und werden wie Kompost.

Eine andere Möglichkeit, auf die Unternehmen, Ins-titutionen und Umweltverbände setzen, sind wieder verwendbare Tüten und Behälter. Auch Baumwoll-taschen und Einkaufswagen werden heute immer mehr verwendet.

PLASTIKDUSTRIE Am stärksten ist die Plastikindustrie von diesen

neuen Maßnahmen betroffen, die sich nach und nach an einen neuen Markt anpassen und ihre Produktion auf umweltfreundliche Produkte umstellen muss.

Kanarische Unternehmen wie Plascan und Plastpel 95 fassen eine neue Situation ins Auge, während sie beginnen, sich selbst neu zu erfinden. Plascan hat auf oxo-bio abbaubare Tüten gesetzt. Bei ihrem Herste-llungsprozess wird der Zusatzstoff d2w dazugegeben. Diese Komponente beschleunigt den Zersetzungs-prozess von Plastik, bei dem dieses schließlich zu

Der undiskriminierte Verbrauch von Plastiktüten an den Kassen ist nicht weniger beunruhigend als der Missbrauch mit Plastikverpackungen jeder Art, die für verschiedene Produkte wie Toastbrot, Salz und Yoghurt verwendet werden. Deshalb darf dies nur der Anfang eines langen Weges sein. Was ist der nächste Schritt?

Cuenta la leyenda que, allá por el siglo XV, Fuerteventura era un señorío gober-nado por Pedro Fernández de Saavedra. Don Pedro, un mujeriego con grandes dotes para la conquista y la guerra,

se ganó su fama de conquistador con sus conti-nuos escarceos con las muchachas aborígenes.

Sin embargo, sus aventuras no le impidieron casarse con Constanza Sarmiento, con quien tuvo 14 hijos. Uno de ellos, Luis Fernández de Herrera, pronto se convirtió en un joven apuesto y seductor, la viva imagen de su padre, aun-que no heredó de él su valentía en el combate.

Tal como cuenta la historia, Luis se encaprichó de Fernanda, una bella indígena a quien persiguió durante meses hasta que consiguió que le acom-pañara en una cacería. El joven quiso aprovechar el momento y, después de comer, invitó a Fernanda a dar un paseo para quedarse a solas con ella.

Leyendas canariasAl llegar a una hermosa arbole-

da, Luis intentó abrazar a la don-cella, quien le rechazó y comen-zó a gritar en busca de ayuda. Los cazadores que les acompa-ñaban, entre los que se encon-traba don Pedro, escucharon los gritos y se dirigieron a toda prisa hacia la arboleda. Pero no fueron los primeros en llegar…

Casi en el mismo instante en que la joven comenzó a pedir socorro, un labrador indígena apareció en el lugar para defen-derla. Sin embargo, Luis desen-vainó un cuchillo de grandes dimensiones para acabar con él. No pudo ser. Tras un largo forcejeo, el labrador le arrebató el cuchillo y, en el mismo momento en que iba a clavárselo, apareció don

Pedro a lomos de su caballo y lo embistió. El golpe hizo caer al campesino, que murió en el acto.

Tras un momento de confusión, llegó la madre del labrador, una anciana indígena que reconoció en don Pedro al joven que un día la sedujo. “Soy Laurinaga – le dijo rota por el dolor – y este hombre que acaba de morir era tu hijo”.

Laurinaga levantó la vista al cielo, invocó a los dioses guanches, y maldijo la isla de Fuerteventura por ser seño-río de don Pedro Fernández.

Desde ese momento, las gen-tes del lugar cuentan que em-

pezaron a soplar vientos ardientes del desierto del Sahara que consiguieron acabar con las flores de la isla. Según la maldición de Lau-rinaga, Fuerteventura un día desaparecerá…
