Teaching Moment:

What is incense and why is it used at Mass?

Incense is an aromatic substance obtained from resinous trees. Placed upon a burning piece of charcoal in a thurible, it gives forth a heavy smoke of a most fragrant odor. It is symbolic of a Christian's prayer, which ascends on high to the throne of God, and is pleasing in His sight. The Psalmist sings: "Let my prayer be counted as incense before thee, and the lifting up of my hands as an evening sacrifice!" (Ps. 141:2). We find records of its use very early in the Old Testament. The Book of Revelation has an angel offering incense to God with "the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar" (Rev. 8:3).

A Note from the Administrator...

Dear Friends, Our parish Pastoral Council continues to pray and thrash and dream and propose, as we discern what directions God would like our parish to go. Some things come up again and again --- our need to develop some form of young adult ministry, better outreach to the needy, more attention to developing a spirit of community and connectedness within the par-ish itself, a serious attempt to contact lapsed Catholics and unchurched people and invite them back. It all takes time, but eventually things will become clear --- God-willing! In the meantime if the Spirit puts it in your hearts to pray for us (Andrew Alvarez, Edith Arellano, Luis Caballero, Adrian Flores, Veron-ica Fritsch, Marianne Hacker, Kim Heim, Kathleen Lee, Mike Miller, Jack Powell, Gene Recupero, Emily Sevilla and Connie Valencia), that would be great.

Peace, All Good Fr. Mike

¡Paz y bien! Padre Mike

Simply put, Youth Ministry is the Church's efforts to help each & every young person grow personally & spiritu-ally. Youth ministry is more than programs and events. Youth Ministry is how we, as a church, strive to provide oppor-tunities and experiences that draw young people into active participation in the life and mission of the church. We want to help our young people:

- Share their gifts. - Grow in life skills. - Develop a positive self-image. - Overcome prejudices. - Develop respect for differences. - Serve those in need. - Develop a personal prayer life. - Apply Catholic faith to their daily life. - Develop a personal relationship with Jesus.

St. Margaret Mary’s youth ministry, and its leaders, make a commitment each year to provide the best activities, all designed to lead teens closer to Christ. There is no cost and every high school aged teen is welcome.

What is youth ministry?

The youth ministry meets every Sunday for the 5pm evening Mass. We celebrate the Mass as a community of believers. We know how important it is to feel supported and believe the journey of faith can’t be traveled alone. The teens have a section (Front left part of the church) where they can celebrate Mass together.

After the 5pm evening Mass, teens will travel to the Sacred Heart Center for our Life Night. During the night our teens will be affirmed, educated, and challenged to live the gospel. Life Nights provide an opportunity to have fun

and grow in the faith. In addition, dinner and refreshments will be served. Our nights usually end around 8:15 p.m. giving plenty of time for teens to finish homework and chores

A fun year of youth ministry is just around the corner. If you are not sure what Youth Ministry is all

about, here is a small description.

When do we meet?

Youth Ministry
