Following our four previous successful shows in Kuala Lumpur, including our recent record-breaking show atthe Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, we are returning to the KLCC in 2014.

    WHY MALAYSIA & WHY NOW?

A TRULY REGIONAL EVENT The Asian railway market accounts for 30% of the total investment in railway projects worldwide. In addition to the projects in Malaysia, other established and consistent markets, such as Hong Kong &

Singapore, plus markets with huge potential including; Indonesia, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnamrepresent massive opportunities for all railway suppliers.

The inclusion of the Annual Congress of the Asian Railway Operators Association provides access todecision makers in railway projects in all of the above countries.

Total investment in railway projects is set to top US$15bn The Klang Valley MRT will be Malaysias largest ever infrastructure project, with three new MRT lines

totalling 150km of track and 90 new stations. The upgrade of the West Coast mainline is ongoing and a 620km East Coast line has been proposed A High Speed line from KL to Singapore has been announced and is expected by 2020

Our recent show in KL attracted a record number of delegates and trade visitors and a Post Event Survey indicated that75% of them wanted to return to KL for the 2014 show. Despite ambitious plans announced in other Asian countries, thecontinued business opportunities presented by the Malaysian railway market and the level of confidence that plannedprojects will proceed, was given as the main reason for wanting to return.

    NATIONAL PAVILIONS & SUPPORT

The Australian ARISEG (formerly ARIC) and the SpanishMAFEX railway supplier associations have confirmed theirsupport for the exhibition. Interested companies should contactthe organisers direct.

The AROA Annual Congress is the highlight of the AROA year. Senior Managers from railway operators across Asia converged on

Kuala Lumpur for three days of unrivalled opportunity to develop their knowledge and understanding of the railway industry.

It provided a chance for Managers of Permanent Way, Rolling Stock, Signalling, Communications, Operations and

Maintenance to meet and network with their counterparts from around the region.

The emphasis of the association is very much on the sharing of expertise and experience for the mutual benefit of allmembers. Through participation in the Annual Congress members have an unequalled opportunity to contribute to and learn

from their wealth of collective knowledge.

Kuala LumpurDeveloping a world class urban rail system

The Tenth Malaysia Plan (10MP), published in June 2011,

gave detailed information about the allocation of the

national budget to all economic sectors in Malaysia from2011 to 2015. As with previous plans, the importance of a

coordinated multimodal transport network was highlighted. Rail

transport is set to play a key part in this network, improving the

movement of people and goods in both urban and rural areas.

As we reach the mid-point of the plan, we assess howthese plans have taken shape and are becoming a reality in and

around Kuala Lumpur. With a GDP 8 times greater than the rest of

Malaysia, the plan acknowledged the importance of Kuala Lumpur

and it adjoining cities to the overall prosperity of the country and

therefore seeks to ensure that the capital is an attractive placeto live and work. With this goal in mind, seamless

interconnectivity in urban public transportation is one of the five

key programmes, scheduled to be implemented during 10MP.Behind the ambitious plans, which are currently being rolled out,

lies a desire to place Kuala Lumpur in the top 20 of both the

worlds most liveable cities and city economic growth, by

    2020.

The Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD ) is inoverall charge of the various projects, handling key areas

including; Policy, Planning, Regulation, Enforcement and Con-

sumer Relations. It is charged with reversing the trend over the

past 20 years, for decreasing use of public transport. Theirtarget is a 40% share of morning peak period journeys in the

Klang Valley by 2020. Rail is expected to carry 50% of all public

transport journeys. For this sort of growth, a transport mode that

can deliver more than 25,000 Passengers Per Hour Per Directionis required, which points the way to choosing MRT over other

    options.

The rail strategy developed seeks to maximise the use

of the existing network, while providing additional capacity inprimary and secondary corridors, through the inclusion of new

lines and extensions of existing facilities. A phasing strategy has

been derived, which best serves the needs of the region by

identifying those elements for completion initially by 2020 and

    subsequently by 2030.

    The current and planned projects include;

Kelana Jaya Line extension Ampang Line extension

MRT 1 Sungai Buloh to Kajang Line MRT 2 North-West to South li ne MRT 3 Circular Line around town centre Monorail capacity expansion

KTMB service enhancement of commuter lines

Kelana Jaya Line ExtensionThe KLJ line is being extended by 17.4km from the existing last

station at Kelana Jaya to a new terminus at Putra Heights to the

South West of the city. The new terminus is combined with the

end station on the extension of the Ampang Line. The KLJ line is

a fully automatic unattended LRT operation, utilising linearinduction motors for propulsion and braking forces and power

being derived from a 3rd and 4th rail conductor system.

Opus-Ace Vector is the project consultant for the

extension. Twelve new stations will be built, one of which is amajor interchange with the heavy rail Commuter network and a

significant expansion of the depot at Lembah Subang to cater forthe additional 4 car trains that are being purchased by Prasarana

under a separate contract. The civil works for the extensionstarted in 2011 and the systems works contract worth 156 million

Euros was awarded in 2011 to a consortium of CMC Engineering,

    Colas and Uniway.

Currently approx 2km of viaduct is erected and work isproceeding on the stabling sidings at the depot. An extension to

the Operations Control Centre is also under construction to cater

for the additional control equipment required for the project. The

first section of the guideway is to be handed-over to the

Systems Works contractor in September 2013 and forecastcompletion of the works for revenue service is early 2016.

Bombardier has provided the rolling stock on the KLJ

Line since it started service in 1998. In 2011, they delivered a

further 35 four-car trains and will be expanding the fleet with

both new and renovated INNOVIA Metro cars to meet theincreasing capacity requirements of the line.

Ampang Line ExtensionOpus-Ace Vector are also the project consultant for this

extension. With a total length 17.8km and 12 new stations, the

project also includes the purchase of a new fleet of 20 x 6 cartrains and the construction of a new depot for the fleet mainte-

nance. CSR Zhuzhou won the 530m ringgit contract to supply the

rolling stock, Each 6-car train will have a capacity of 1308

passengers and a maximum speed of 80 km/h, drawing currentat 750 V DC from the third rail. CSR started construction on a

rolling stock assembly and maintenance plant at Batu Gajah in

Perak state in April of this year. The 400m ringgit facility is CSR

Zhuzhous first plant outside China and the site will serve theircustomers across the Asean region.

In addition to the line extension to Putra Heights, the

existing line is being completely re-signalled to enable a Super-

vised Automatic operation over the whole railway. A new

Operations Control Centre is being constructed at AmpangStation, which will take over operation of the whole extended line

    on completion of the project.

The civil works for the extension started in 2011 and

the systems works contract was awarded in 2012. Prasaranaawarded the final construction contract on this project to a joint

venture of George Kent and Lion Pacific to supply and commis-

sion trackwork and railway systems. George Kent subsequently

awarded Thales the contract to provide SelTrac communications-

based train control for the entire lineCurrently approx 4.5 km of viaduct is erected and work

is proceeding on the earthworks for the new depot on a 12hectare site. The first section of the guideway is to be handed-

over to the Systems Works contractor in September 2013 andforecast completion of the whole works for revenue service is

    early 2016.

Klang Valley MRT (KVMRT)The KVMRT is a planned three-line system, with two cross town

lines, reaching deep into the suburbs, plus an in-town circular

line. Line 1 is already under construction and when the threelines are completed, the additional 150km of track and 90 new

stations will completely transform the capitals urban transport

    capability,

MRT 1 - Sungai Buloh to Kajang LineThe first of the three lines will be 51km long with 31 stations.Starting from Sungai Buloh it heads south and east, crossing the

city centre underground, before heading south to Kajang.

Construction started in May of this year and several of the major

    contracts have already been awarded.

The Siemens/SMH Rail consortium won a 1.37bn ringgitcontract to supply a fleet 58 four-car driverless trains. Siemens

in a consortium with Hisniaga also picked up a 400m ringit

contract to supply depot equipment and maintenance vehicles.

Bombardier has been awarded a 281m ringgit contractto design, supply, install and commission the CITYFLO 650

communications-based train control (CBTC) solution for driver-

less operation on the line. This will include the 31 stations and

onboard equipment for the 58 trains, plus a further 16 mainte-nance vehicles. As part of this contract, Bombardier has

committed to develop local expertise in addition to its usualpractice of working with Malaysian partners to bring long-term

    benefits into Malaysian industry.

Following up on its contract to supply, install and test

power supply equipment on the Kelana Jaya Line the Meidensha-Meiden Malaysia Joint Venture will design, manufacture, supply,

install, site test and commission the Power Supply Distribution

System on the MRT 1 Line. This will include the major system of

;- AC 33kV Gas Insulated Switchgear, Rectifier and Rectifier

Transformer, DC 750V Switchgear and Isolators, Power SCADASystem, 33kV Cables, DC Traction Cables and all of the control

cables for all mainline Traction Substation, 2 Depots and Waysideinstallations.

MRT Line 2 - Sungai Buloh - Pandan LineThe second of the planned three-line system will also start atSungai Buloh. Heading east it will pass through the eastern side

of the city centre, before turning south to its terminus, initially at

Pandan, with a possible future extension to Putrajaya. At a total

length of 56km, it is the longest of the three lines, with 35

stations. Tenders are expected early in 2014.

MRT Line 3 - CircularThe final, circular line is still in the planning stage. Its orbital route

around the city centre will integrate with the rest of the rail

network and alleviate pressure in key areas of the city.

Monorail Capacity ExpansionScomi Rail Bhd, a subsidiary of Scomi Engineering Bhd, was

awarded a contract in November 2011 to provide 12 sets of newfour-car-trains for the existing KL Monorail Line. Under a further

RM494 million contract Scomi are also upgrading the monorail

stations and the electrical and mechanical system (including

Power Supply & Distributions, Communication Systems andSignalling Systems), as well as building a new depot.

PSI Incontrol was awarded the complete communication

and SCADA package for both contracts, covering the rolling

stock and the wayside equipment. The first train is currentlyunder testing and final testing of the wayside equipment is in

progress. The first train operation is expected in May 2014.
