Argumento

Henry Roth es un biólogo marino residente en Hawai, cuyo deporte favorito es seducir turistas a las que olvida apenas se suben al avión. Pero toda su actitud se cae a pedazos cuando conoce a Lucy, una bella local que padece una extraña enfermedad: desde hace un año, olvida todo lo que sucedió durante el día después de dormir.

Así que cada día tiene que enamorarla, luego ella quiere alejarse de él porque cree que está estancando sus sueños por ella, luego vuelven a unirse y finalmente ella despierta en un bote y al ver un video se da cuenta que está casada con él y además tienen una hija y están viajando por el Ártico junto a su padre.

OTROHenry Roth (Adam Sandler), un biólogo marino que vive en Hawaii, conoce a Lucy Whitmore (Drew Barrymore), una profesora de arte, en una cafetería una mañana. Casualmente, entablan relación pero pronto se descubre que Lucy sufre de amnesia anterógrada a consecuencia de un accidente sufrido un año antes. El resultado es que no tiene ningún recuerdo de nada que haya pasado entre el día del accidente y el presente, porque Lucy es incapaz de convertir la memoria de corto plazo a largo plazo. Cada mañana se despierta habiendo perdido toda la memoria del día anterior. Cree, inocentemente, que cada día es 13 de octubre de 2002. Su hermano y padre actúan como si fuera ese día, el cumpleaños del padre, para evitar que Lucy sufra y descubra el accidente.

A causa de la situación especial de Lucy, Henry se esfuerza en conseguir nuevas e imaginativas maneras de llamar la atención de Lucy cada día, a pesar de que su padre y hermano le advierten que no siga yendo a la cafetería y que no se aproveche de la situación. El padre y el hermano acaban descubriéndolo porque Lucy canta Wouldn't It Be Nice mientras pinta el garaje si se ha encontrado con Henry. Así pues, gracias a la determinación que pone Henry y a que Lucy se siente feliz cuando le ve, el padre y el hermano terminan permitiéndole ver a Lucy. Al día siguiente, Henry aparece en su casa con un video que explica el accidente y todo lo que ha pasado desde entonces.

Una mañana, Lucy despierta junto a Henry, en su cama, tras pasar la noche juntos. Al no recordarlo, no le reconoce y le ataca. Henry deja la habitación y Lucy oye una conversación de Henry y el doctor. Hablan de que Henry no disfrutará de su sueño (explorar el Ártico) porque ha decidido quedarse con Lucy pensando, esperanzado, que recuerde el día a día. Lucy rompe con él porque tiene la sensación de que aparta a Henry de sus sueños y, para no dejar ningún rastro, quema su diario personal.

Henry es incapaz de seguir su vida sin Lucy, pero decide finalmente irse al Ártico. El padre y el hermano de Lucy le visitan, y le dicen que ella está siguiendo su vida, consciente cada día de su enfermedad, y anda feliz cantando siempre su canción Wouldn't It Be Nice. Antes de dejarlo solo, el padre le regala un CD de los Beach Boys. Henry cree que el hecho de que este feliz y cante la canción es una señal de que Lucy le recuerda y vuelve al centro para personas con problemas de memoria, donde Lucy había decidido vivir para no causar problemas a los demás, dando clases de arte a los demás. Cuando Herny entra y le pregunta a Lucy si le recuerda, ella contesta que no, pero le pide que le acompañe a su habitación. Para su sorpresa, Henry ve una habitación llena de pinturas de él mismo en diferentes estilos artísticos.

Ella le dice que no sabe por qué los ha pintado, pero que sueña con él cada noche. Henry le explica su relación y un beso finaliza la escena.

Hacia el final de la película, Lucy despierta en un lugar extraño pero al ver un video se da cuenta que se ha casado con Henry. Al subir las escaleras se percata que está en un barco a través del ártico con Henry, su pequeña hija y Marlin, el padre de Lucy.

Escenarios

La mayoría de la película fue grabada en la localidad de Kaneohe, Kaaawa, Wahiawa, Makapu'u, y Waimanalo, O'ahu, así como en la Bahía Kaneohe. El tanque de las morsas está realmente enVallejo, California, en el Six Flags Discovery Kingdom y el campo de golf en Los Angeles, California. Además, el entrenador de los leones marinos en la vida real aparece en la película como tal.

El barco "Sea Serpent" es un 51' Formosa. Lo posee una familia, que vive a bordo, en Oahu. Su nombre real es "Viking Spirit".

Banda Sonora

La banda sonora incluye versiones de las canciones que originalmente fueron grabadas en los años 80. Incluye en su mayoría reggae o ska ya que su emphasized upbeat recuerda un estilo más tropical o hawaiano.

PLOT

Henry Roth is a resident marine biologist in Hawaii, whose favorite sport is to seduce tourists to forget just get on the plane. But his whole attitude falls apart when he meets Lucy, a beautiful place that is suffering from a strange illness for a year, forget everything that happened during the day after sleeping.

So every day has to woo her, then she wants to get away from him because he believes that is stalling their dreams for it, then come back together and finally she wakes up in a boat and to see a video realizes that he is married and also have a daughter and are traveling the Arctic with his father.

plot

Henry Roth is a veterinarian at Sea Life Park on the island of Oahu who has a reputation of womanizing female tourists. He shows no interest in committing to a serious relationship and his closest friends are Ula, a marijuana-smoking Islander; his assistant Alexa, whose sexuality and gender is unclear; and Willy, his pet African penguin.

One day Henry’s boat The Sea Serpent, breaks down while he is sailing around Oahu. He goes to the Hukilau Café to wait for the coastguard. There, he sees a pretty young woman named Lucy Whitmore, who makes architectural art with her waffles. Henry assumes she is a local, which prevents him from introducing himself, but the next day he comes back. Lucy and he hit if off instantly and she asks him to meet her again tomorrow morning.

When Henry goes back to the café, Lucy shows no recollection of ever meeting him. The restaurant owner Sue (Amy Hill) explains to Henry that a year ago, Lucy and her father Marlin went up to the North Shore to pick a pineapple for his birthday. On the way back, they got into a serious car accident that left Lucy with Goldfield Syndrome, a type of anterograde amnesia. She wakes up every morning thinking it is Sunday, October 13 of the last year. To save her the heartbreak of reliving the accident everyday, Marlin and Doug, Lucy’s lisping steroid-addicted brother, relive Marlin's birthday by doing numerous tasks, including putting out October 13's newspaper, watching the same Vikings game, and refilling Lucy’s shampoo bottles.

Despite Sue’s warning, Henry decides to try and get Lucy to have breakfast with him. Eventually he does, but it ends poorly when Henry accidentally hurts Lucy’s feelings. He follows her home to apologize where Marlin and Doug instruct Henry to leave Lucy alone. Henry begins concocting ways to run into Lucy through the following days such as pretending to have car trouble, creating a fake road block and by having Ula beat him up. Eventually, Marlin and Doug figure this out due to Lucy singing The Beach Boys "Wouldn't It Be Nice" on the days when she meets Henry.

One day, as Henry is about to sit with Lucy at breakfast, she notices a police officer writing her a ticket for her expired plates. Lucy attempts to argue that they are not yet expired, and takes a newspaper to prove herself, but sees that the date on all the newspapers is not October as she thought, and Marlin and Doug are forced to admit their ruse when she confronts them.

Henry comes up with an idea to make a video explaining to Lucy her accident and their relationship and play it every morning for her. She watched the tape and is hurt, but eventually comes to her senses and she is able to spend the day by picking up where the tape says she left off. She spends more time with Henry and goes to see some of her old friends. Lucy decides to erase Henry completely from her life after learning of his decision to not take a sailing trip to Bristol Bay to study walruses, something that has been in planning mode for the past 10 years. He feels he cannot leave Lucy for the year it will take him. Henry reluctantly helps her destroy her journal entries of their relationship.

A few weeks later, Henry is preparing to leave for his sailing trip. Before he goes, Marlin tells him that Lucy is now living at the brain institute and teaching an art class. He also tells him that she sings. Then, he gives Henry a Beach Boys CD. Listening to the CD, Henry becomes emotional and curses Marlin for giving him the CD and making him feel so emotional. He then remembers that Marlin once told him that Lucy always sings after she meets him. He then realizes that Lucy remembers him and turns around to go home. She says she does not remember, but that she dreams about him every night and paints pictures of him. They reconcile.

Some time later, Lucy wakes up and plays the tape marked “Good Morning Lucy”. It again reminds her of her accident, but ends with her and Henry’s wedding. From the tape, Henry says to put a jacket on and come have breakfast when she is ready. Lucy then sees that she is on Henry’s boat, which finally made it to Alaska. She goes up on deck and meets Marlin, Henry and their young daughter, Nicole.

LocationsMost of the film was shot on location in Kaneohe, Kaʻaʻawa, Wahiawā, Makapuʻu, and Waimānalo, Oahu, as well as in Kāne'ohe Bay. To save money (because of the high cost of filming outside of the studio zone), some interior scenes (such as inside the Whitmore residence) were shot on sets in Los Angeles carefully decorated to look like they were in Hawaii.

The walrus tank is actually in Vallejo, California's Six Flags Discovery Kingdom, and the golf course is in Los Angeles, California.
