This is the end of the second week of my trip to Australia. I’m spending a few days at AyersRock, or Uluru, as the local people call it. I took the train here from Adelaide because Iwanted to see as much of this huge country as possible. It was a really long journey and alittle boring, to be honest. There isn’t really that much to see – just desert and a few plants here and there! I didn’t evensee any animals. Most of them only come out when it starts to get dark, so they probably wereasleep. I guess it’s too hot for them in the sun.

When I got here, I met the group of students I’m camping with. We have a fantastic local guidewho knows so much about the history and geography of this place. The weather is reallyextreme. It’s very hot during the day and freezing at night! No one can remember the last timethere was heavy rain here, so you can imagine how careful everyone is with water.

Tomorrow, we’re hiking around Ayers Rock. It doesn’t look that big in pictures, but the trailaround the rock is almost 10 kilometers. It’s a long hike, but I’m sure I can do it. The colorsare amazing . . . reds and oranges and purples. I’m really looking forward to taking somegood photos.

Writing11. Your friend wants to go on a camping trip, but his or her parents said no. Write advice for your

Write 70–80 words.

Adults tell you that school days are the best days of your life, and you wonder what the rest of your life will belike if this is the best! Even if these are the best days, all students have ideas about how school life could bebetter. Here are my ideas.

First of all, the school day is too long. It would be better if we had shorter days. We could start at 10:00 a.m.and finish at 3:00 p.m. There would be fewer classes. In addition, there wouldn’t be so much homework, sowe could actually have some time for ourselves during the week. We could sleep in, too. As everyone knows, teenagers don’t get enough sleep!

As for subjects, I’d make them all optional, except for English because it is impossible to get a job if you can’tread or write. But we could decide the other classes we take and take classes that have to do with careers wewant in the future. I’d like to do something creative when I finish school, so I’d take subjects like photographyand art. We could also do an activity outside of the classroom once a month, like go to a museum or a zoo.The class could choose the activities.

And finally, what about life after school? What are we taught about that? We don’t know how to manage moneyor how to apply for jobs. I think there should be classes available about things like that.
