Hace unos meses, una amiga me recordó que este mes de agosto, se acercaba el centésimo aniversario de la ratificación de la Enmienda 19 a la Constitución de E.E.U.U. Esta enmienda, ratificada el 18 de agosto de 1920, otorgo a las mujeres estadounidenses el derecho a votar.

Desde entonces, y en preparación para una actividad en la que nosotros, a través de Conexion Media Group, estamos trabajando para celebrar ese evento histórico, he tenido la oportunidad de leer numerosos artículos, revisar información en línea y hablé con personas con amplio conocimiento sobre esto. Personalmente, me sorprendió saber que este esfuerzo de varias mujeres muy valientes fue una lucha de décadas, ¡ya que tardó casi 100 años en hacerse realidad!

Sin duda, la lucha por el sufragio de las mujeres, en mi opinión, es una gran muestra de la resiliencia de las mujeres, que valientemente “lucharon contra el

A few months ago, a friend reminded me that this August, the 100th Anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution was coming up. This amendment, ratified on August 18th, 1920, gave American women the right to vote.

Since then, and in preparation for an activity that we, via Conexion Media Group, are working on to celebrate that historic event, I have had a chance to read numerous articles, review on-line information, and spoken to persons with extensive knowledge about this. Personally, I was shocked to learn that this effort by many very courageous women, was a decades long fight as it took nearly 100 years for it to become a reality!

For sure, the fight for women’s suffrage, in my opinion, is a great display of the resiliency of women, who bravely “fought the system”, united as best as possible

El viajar ha sido siempre una actividad con muchos cambios desde que los primeros ‘turistas’ empezaron a hacer El gran tour alrededor de Europa en el siglo XVIII. Primero, viajaron en carruajes jalados por caballos, pero en la mitad del mismo siglo viajaron en los ferrocarriles y continuaron haciéndolo hasta la Segunda Guerra Mundial. Por supuesto, ese evento paralizó el turismo totalmente durante más o menos 7 años.

Al final de la Segunda Guerra Mundial, los viajes por tierra tanto en los EE.UU. como en Europa vio a las familias adineradas viajar por los campos en sus automóviles elegantes y modernos. Para los ricos la llegada de los aviones jet como el Boeing 707 y el DC-8 hizo posible los viajes intercontinentales. En Europa en particular los veraneantes cambiaron el uso de trenes y automóviles por lo que se llamó ‘vacaciones de paquete’—que vendían vuelos y estadías a un solo precio habilitando el aumento de viajes a los centros de turismo del Mediterráneo.

El gran cambió fue en 1969 y 1970 con la creación del Jumbo Jet Boeing 747. Este avión es el que democratizó los vuelos aéreos. La habilidad de llevar a más de 369 pasajeros a grandes distancias rebajó el costo de los vuelos y permitió que los turistas pudieran visitar lugares que solo habían soñado anteriormente.

Por supuesto, otros aviones antiguos siguieron volando pero otros eventos como la crisis del petróleo de los 70, los intereses económicos y varios conflictos políticos afectaron el uso de los aviones antiguos y menos eficaces. Let’s Talk About TourismBy Martin Owen

Travel has been an ever-changing activity since the first ‘tourists’ started taking the Grand Tour around Europe in the 18th century. First, they went by horse drawn carriages, but by the mid-1800s, they were traveling on the newly laid railroads, and that essentially continued through until World War II. That event effectively brought tourism to a complete halt for about seven years, of course.

Following WW II, the rise of the Road Trip, both in the USA and in Europe, had newly affluent families heading across country in their fashionable and finned automobiles. For the

wealthy, the advent of the jet airliner like the Boeing 707 and DC-8 made intercontinental travel possible. In Europe, in particular, vacationers traded their train and car road trips for what was termed ‘package holidays’—where air travel and accommodation were sold at one low price enabling the boom in trips to the Mediterranean resorts.

The real game changer came in 1969 and 1970 with the launch of Boeing’s 747 Jumbo Jet. This single aircraft was credited with democratizing air travel. Its ability to carry upwards of 360 passengers vast distances brought down the cost of travel and allowed tourists to visit places they could have previously only dreamed of seeing.

Of course, other, older aircraft continued to serve, but other events like the mid 70’s oil crisis, economic concerns, and various conflicts started to make some of the older and less efficient aircraft a liability for airlines. The awful events of 9/11 and the

subsequent drop in demand for air travel meant the end for many types of aircraft such as Boeing 727s, 707s, Lockheed L1011, TriStars and Douglas DC-10s, for example. But, the 747 remained with newer models still speeding carrying travelers on trunk routes around the world.

However, things were changing again. New designs of very efficient twin engines (as opposed to the four engines of the 747), lightweight aircraft started to appear. The Boeing 777, a twin jet, can carry as many passengers as the 747 but at lower cost and on the same routes. Aircraft like the Boeing 787 and Airbus A350 are even more efficient and can fly incredible

estos aviones para cruzar el país, y durante los 2 últimos años todas las aerolíneas de los EE.UU. retiraron sus Jumbos intercontinentales.

Las líneas internacionales, en su mayoría decidieron retirar sus 747 para mediados del 2020. Sin embargo los mejores planes de ‘Hombres y ratones’ más la pandemia del COVID cambió todo nuevamente reduciendo masivamente el transporte aéreo. La mayoría de las aerolíneas inmediatamente jubilaron sus 747 (y Airbus sus A380). Por supuesto todavía puedes volar en los Jumbo de Lufthansa, China Airlines, Korean

Durante uno de mis momentos de calma, este versículo me inspira a imaginar cómo sería ver a Jesús cara a cara. Ver su sonrisa mientras corro hacia Él. Sentir su alegría cuando le diga lo mucho que lo adoro y lo mucho que le necesito. Lo vi asentir con la cabeza al mismo tiempo que le agradecía por cuidar de mi familia durante el coronavirus y por todo lo que continúa haciendo para reforzar y bendecir mi matrimonio.

Esta experiencia fue tan increíble que me dio ganas de correr hacia Jesús de manera continua. Me hizo pensar en que no tenemos que esperar hasta que tenemos una crisis para hablar con Él. Imagínate corriendo hacia tu mejor Amigo para compartir las ultimas noticias de tu nieta o nieto; o hacia tu Pastor cuando necesitas cariño; o a tu Consejero cuando necesitas consejos.

Hazlo esta semana. Pasa tiempo imaginando que conversas con Jesús cara a cara. Imagina que te abraza con fuerza mientras abres tu corazón hacia Él. Dile el miedo que tienes de que tu Abuela muera, cómo extrañas las veces que estuviste con tu hijo antes de que se mudara tan lejos, o si no estas segura si podrás comprar comestibles la próxima semana. Si no necesitas nada, date tiempo de adorarle y hablarle… de lo que sea.

Luego espera por su amorosa respuesta—y date permiso de sentirte “rebosante de alegría” al mismo tiempo que sientes su placer por el rato que compartiste.

“I’m glad to see you again,” she said. “I have so much to tell You since the last time we talked…”

Using the above story as an example, I invite you to picture yourself as one of the people in this week’s verse: “As soon as all the people saw Jesus, they were overwhelmed with wonder and ran to greet him.” (Mark 9:15 NIV).

During one of my quiet times, this verse inspired me to imagine what it would be like to see Jesus face-to-face. I saw

His smile as I ran toward Him. I felt His delight when I told Him how much I adored and needed Him. I watched him nod as I thanked Him for keeping my family safe from the coronavirus and for all He continues to do to strengthen and bless my marriage.

During our chat, I shared important prayer requests. I asked him to save my family members, heal my friends, and give our leaders wisdom. I reminded him of my dream to be an author, a speaker and a screenplay writer. And I hung onto every word I imagined Him saying. As we talked, I sensed His pleasure. It was obvious He enjoyed spending time with me, too.

This experience was so incredible it made me want to make running to Jesus a regular habit. It reminded me that

we don’t have to wait until we are in a crisis to talk to Him. Imagine running up to your closest Friend to share the news about your latest grandchild; or to your Shepherd, when you need closeness; or to your Counselor, when you need advice.

Try it this week. Spend time imagining yourself chatting with Jesus face-to-face. Picture Him holding you tightly while you pour out your heart to Him. Tell Him how scared you are that

Grandma might die, how much you miss spending time with your son who moved so far away, how you’re not sure if you’ll be able to buy groceries next week.

If you don’t need anything, take a moment just to worship your Lord and talk about… everything. Then wait for His loving response—and allow yourself to be “overwhelmed with wonder” as you sense His pleasure for the time you shared.

Hace poco más de un mes, la Corte Suprema de los Estados Unidos descubrió que la administración Trump no tuvo en cuenta el efecto que tendría la terminación de DACA en los aproximadamente 800,000 beneficiarios conocidos como DREAMers. El tribunal también determinó que la administración Trump no dio una razón válida para revocar el programa. El resultado debería haber sido que USCIS nuevamente acepte nuevas solicitudes de DACA, solicitudes de autorización de viaje y continúe renovando DACA en incrementos de dos años.

Sin embargo, la Casa Blanca anunció que ignoraría el fallo del tribunal superior al rechazar nuevas solicitudes de DACA y solicitudes de autorización de viaje al emitir renovaciones en incrementos de solo un año.

Jennifer Minear, presidenta de la Asociación Estadounidense de Abogados de Inmigración (AILA, por sus siglas en inglés) declaró: “La administración Trump está eligiendo conscientemente poner en peligro la vida de Dreamers innecesariamente con esta decisión. Immigration Changes Affect DREAMersBy Elizabeth Ricci, Esq., Managing Partner of Rambana & Ricci, PLLC Immigration Attorneys, Tallahassee, FL

Just over a month ago, the US Supreme Court found that the Trump administration did not take into consideration the effect DACA’s termination would have on the approximately 800,000 beneficiaries known as DREAMers. The court also found that the Trump administration did not give a valid reason to revoke the program. The result should have been that USCIS again accept new DACA requests, travel authorization requests and continue to renew DACAs in two-year increments.

True to form, the White House announced, however, that it would ignore the high court ruling by refusing new DACA requests and travel authorization requests while issuing renewals in increments of only one year.

Jennifer Minear, President of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) stated, “The Trump administration is consciously choosing to needlessly throw Dreamers’ lives into turmoil with this decision. The Supreme Court did not require DHS to end DACA, yet DHS is insisting on limiting protections for thousands of Dreamers and barring thousands more from obtaining protection from removal at all. Make no mistake: this is the administration’s next step towards deporting Dreamers from the only country they have ever called home.”

AILA’s Executive Director Benjamin Johnson added, “For the sake of not only Dreamers but our nation, this legal limbo must end. The vast majority of Americans support protecting Dreamers. Now is not the time to upend their lives again. It is time for decisive, compassionate action by Congress to pass the American Dream and Promise Act and ensure their lives are permanently woven into the fabric of this nation.”Between this administration’s attempts to end DACA and USCIS’s impending furlough of about half the agency’s employees coupled with a steep fee increase that will go into effect October 2, 2020, aliens are urged to explore immigration options such as stays of removal, U, S or T visas.

Hoy en día es común ver a personas mendigas de todas las edades pidiendo limosnas junto a un semáforo, o en alguna esquina de la calle. Tanto en las grandes, como en las pequeñas ciudades, esta práctica se ha vuelto algo cotidiano.

En la antigüedad, un mendigo era un discapacitado físico que no podía desarrollar ninguna actividad laboral. ¿Recuerdas aquel hombre que pedía limosna a la entrada del templo de Jerusalén?

Un día, Pedro y Juan fueron al templo para la oración de las tres de la tarde. Allí, en el templo, estaba un hombre paralítico de nacimiento, al cual llevaban todos los días y lo ponían junto a la puerta llamada la Hermosa, para que pidiera limosna a los que entraban. Cuando el paralítico vio a Pedro y a Juan, que estaban a punto de entrar en el templo, les pidió una limosna. Ellos lo miraron fijamente, y Pedro le dijo: - Míranos. El hombre puso atención, creyendo que le iban a dar algo. Pero Pedro le dijo: - No tengo plata ni oro, pero lo que tengo te doy: en el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret, levántate y anda.

Dicho esto, Pedro lo tomó por la mano derecha y lo levantó, y en el acto cobraron fuerzas sus pies y sus tobillos. El paralítico se puso en pie de un salto y comenzó a andar; luego entró con ellos en el templo, por su propio pie, brincando y alabando a Dios. (Hechos 3:1-8)

Generalmente toda persona que solicita ayuda está temerosa. Tiene carencias que no puede suplir por sus propios medios. Adicionalmente a esto se suma que, algunas de ellas acuden a personas incorrectas en busca de la solución.

En el caso del paralítico, ¿Cuántos años habrían transcurrido? ¿Cuántas veces habría acudido a las personas incorrectas pidiendo ayuda? ¡Pero aquel día fue última vez!

El paralítico estaba tan acostumbrado a recibir limosnas, que no se atrevía a pedir algo diferente. Tal vez su esperanza estaba puesta solo en las personas que lo llevaban, y en aquellos que le daban algunas monedas. Pero el nombre de Jesucristo de Nazaret hizo posible que él se levantara y fuera más allá de la puerta. Que no estuviera a la entrada del templo pidiendo limosnas, sino libre y glorificando el nombre de Dios.

IN ‘EIGHT GRAVES’ WOMEN CALL THE SHOTS By Nick Smith

The 2020 movie Eight Graves centers on two strong women – Sadie, a new mother, and Mrs. Garrick, a decidedly old mother who’s been dead for centuries. When Sadie visits her uncle’s house, she calls on her friends to help her cope with parenthood… and Mrs. Garrick gets jealous.

I have always enjoyed scary movies. They’re like a rollercoaster ride that can make your heart race while still reassuring you with their familiar types of characters and formulaic storylines. My late, much-loved grandmother, a lady who was full of life, enjoyed watching horror as well and shared a few gruesome movies with me while I was growing up. So, I was delighted when director Gus Smythe (Slammer) approached me with a project he wanted to make full of ghosts, graves and young people in peril.

Gus had a basic storyline. Sadie throws a party in an old house and not only is the ghost of Mrs. Garrick in there with them, but there’s also another ghost outside. Even if the party-goers escape from the house, there’s more danger inside.

I expanded the outline into a screenplay with one sequence written by Rodney Lee Rogers (Parole). We cast the film in Charleston, South Carolina and found a creepy location in a remote Upstate plantation. While Gus and I were both experienced directors, it’s important to note that we didn’t have a big budget or a big crew – we made what we could with the limited resources we

had. Although some of my filmmaking colleagues prefer to wait until they have millions of dollars allocated to their project, no one should let a lack of money stop them from telling their story.

Our story was a fairly generic haunted house tale, full of sudden deaths and daring escapes. My job as screenwriter, I decided, was to make the characters watchable and memorable – especially Sadie, who has complaints about being a mother but is obviously committed to parenting and has a close bond with her friends, all former college classmates. I urge anyone who wants to tell a story, whether it’s supernatural or rooted in real life, to focus on the characters and their relationships. If an audience cares about them, then they will often forgive a low budget or a plot coincidence.

While the women are, in general, strong and outspoken, the men in Eight Graves exist to provide humor (like bad boyfriend Bruce and sleazy mechanic Mitch), romance (Colin) or danger (the ghost outside). The men get a lot less screen time, so there were less opportunities to develop their characters. But they still behave consistently – once Bruce is established as selfish; he behaves that way for the rest of the film.

The focus and the character development worked – when the movie was released this year, audiences were gripped as the ghosts closed in because they cared about the girls. Eight Graves has garnered some decent reviews

too; my favorite, written by Medium’s Michael Clayton, celebrates our ambition ‘to be a Southern-fried Evil Dead.’

Hopefully Amazon Prime viewers will care enough about the surviving characters – not that many of them survive – to want to know what happens next so we can green light Nine Graves.

In the meantime, I encourage any filmmaker reading this to engage their audience with authentic heroines who deserve to live not just through a movie but beyond it as well.

Como você ja deve estar sabendo, o número de casos na Flórida é um dos mais altos do país. De acordo com o Departamento de Saúde: até 28 de julho, havia um total de 446.251 casos de infeccao com residentes da Flórida e 6.333 mortes relacionadas ao COVID-19. A situação é alarmante.

Esse surto de vírus é assustador, e pode afetar nossa saúde mental de muitas maneiras. Muitas pessoas estão sentindo medo, ansiedade e depressão durante essa situação. Muitas famílias também estão de luto pela perda de um ente querido. Estamos todos esperamos por uma vacina mas eles ainda não têm certeza de quanto tempo levará para que uma seja disponível.

Então, o que você faz se você ou seus entes queridos começarem a sentir sintomas?

¿Qué es todo este alboroto? ¿Todavía estamos hablando de eso? Necesitan superarlo. ¿No sucedió eso hace mucho tiempo? ¿No es la igualdad de oportunidades para las personas que lo merecen? Las preguntas siguen y siguen, causando estragos en todas partes. Cuanto más profundizo y más escucho, más me doy cuenta de que necesito aclarar mis oídos, ojos,

pensamientos y prejuicios pasados (sí, todos los tenemos) y caminar con empatía.

He escuchado que esto se dice mucho a lo largo de los años, y lo encuentro intolerable. Alguien dirá “He caminado en sus zapatos”, o “Voy a caminar en sus zapatos; entonces, puedo entender cuál es el gran problema y por qué hay tantos sentimientos heridos “. What is all the fuss about? Are we still talking about that? They need to get over it. Didn’t that happen a long time ago? Isn’t equal opportunity meant for the people who deserve it? The questions go on and on, wreaking havoc everywhere. The deeper I dig and the further I listen, the more I realize I need to clear my ears, eyes, thoughts, and past prejudices (yes, we all have them) and walk in empathy.

I have heard this said a lot over the years, and I find it intolerable.

Someone will say “I have walked in their shoes”, or “I will walk in their shoes; then, I can understand what the big problem is and why there are so many hurt feelings.” One of the big problems is that no one can walk in another’s shoes. As soon as those borrowed shoes start to pinch or are too loose, we immediately go back to our lives and feel good about the effort we made. Unfortunately, the person’s shoes you were walking in live that life and consequence every single day. They are not afforded a break!

Success in life comes when we achieve excellence in an area of our lives. Generally speaking, people who achieve master status only do one thing at the highest level. Michael Jordan was arguably the greatest basketball player who ever lived, but he was only an average Minor League Baseball player. It is far better to master one task than to be mediocre at many.

Mastery is a matter of following the leader. Successful people leave a lot of clues and a clear trail to follow. In a 2005 study reported in the Journal of Applied Cognitive Psychology, it was revealed that, in research of elite chess masters, these top performers spent more than 5,000 hours in what is known as deliberate practice following the moves of other masters. Average players spent less than 1,000 hours pursuing deliberate practice.

Deliberate practice is the habit of examining each move on a chess board, picking what you feel is the best move, and then studying how other chess masters moved their pieces in the same circumstances. Deliberate practice may be the most important key to our success. You’ve probably heard it said that, “Practice makes perfect.” While this saying has become famous and sounds good, it is simply not true. In reality, practice makes consistent and, therefore, only perfect practice makes perfect.

Too often, the effort we expend, the studying we undertake, and the training we perform has very little to do with the actual real-world activity we are hoping to

master. Unfortunately, we all want to practice the things we do well while avoiding the boring fundamentals. My late, great mentor and friend, the legendary Coach John Wooden, told me that all players like to practice slam-dunks and three-point shots when free-throws and defense win championships.

When I began writing these columns more than 20 years ago, I asked the editor of one of the newspapers that was carrying them each week, what he thought was the best way to practice writing my columns. He told me that the best way to learn to ride a bike, play the violin, or write a weekly column is to simply do it over and over. Mastery comes when we are mediocre but continue striving.

As you go through your day today, continue to perform that which you wish to master, and you will.

The human body is incredible. The function of keeping us alive is complex and involves so much. I am in awe of it. It is so amazing we should explore

some of the anatomy and diseases that can affect it. This month the fantastic

body - presents the fascinating liver.

The liver is the second largest organ in the body. It has over 500 functions, including helping

the blood to clot and breaking down damaged cells. Weighing between two and three pounds, it holds about 13

percent on the body’s total blood volume. The liver has the distinction of being both a gland and an organ. As an organ, it can execute chemical actions. As a gland, it secretes chemicals for other parts of the body to use.

The liver is found in the upper right-hand portion of the abdominal cavity, beneath the diaphragm, and on top of the stomach, right kidney, and intestines.

LIVER FUNCTIONSThe liver performs over 500 functions. Not only does it make the required chemicals, but it also detoxifies, and it acts as a storage unit. Some of the critical functions are:• Protein synthesis, including blood clotting factors and albumin, required to maintain fluid within the circulation system.

The right of citizens of the United States to vote shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or by any State on account of race, color or previous condition of servitude…

This was true- if you were male. For females, that right didn’t happen until 1920.

• “BECAUSE 90% of the women either do not want it, or do not care.” The league of Women Voters, caring for 100 years. • “BECAUSE it means competition of women with men instead of co operation.”• “BECAUSE 80% of the women eligible to vote are married and can only double or annul their husband’s votes.” Actually, this isn’t necessarily a bad thing...

And here is a retort by Alice Stone Blackwell, one-time editor of the Woman’s Journal, in the National American Woman Suffrage Association publication. She stated 16 reasons why women SHOULD be given the vote. BB will only mention two as they are in her mind the most importante.

1. “Because it is fair and right that those who must obey the laws should have a voice in making them, and that those who must pay taxes should have a vote as to the size of the tax and the way it shall be spent.”

Obvio. There was even a tea throwing incident about something like that way back in US historia...

2. “Because laws unjust to women would be amended more quickly.”As done in the July edition, BB points out what should be the truth, but

in reality we all know better don’t we Beautifuls? In the current US atmosphere, women still earn less than their male counterparts. According to the IWPR, Institute for Women’s Policy Research,” if change continues at the same slow pace as it has done for the past fifty years, it will take 40 years - or until 2059 - for women to finally reach pay parity. For women of color, the rate of change is even slower:

Hispanic women will have to wait until 2224 and Black women will wait until 2130 for equal pay.”

Y the magazine, Marie Claire, highlighted “18 Ways Women Still Aren’t Equal to Men.”, although women are paid less than men, they pay more for many household items than men. Ex- shampoo, deodorant y medias! Also the underrepresentation of women in various carreras and positions in industry,govierno, and sciences is sad to say the least. Less funding is also allocated to female entrepreneurs and female owned startups.

Si Beautifuls, mucho has yet to be done for equality all around, pero let us celebrar those brave sisters and supporters who helped give us the ground to stand up and get our Voice to Vote!

Agosto es un mes de gran celebración para el género femenino en los Estados Unidos ya que la ley que permitió que las mujeres ejercitáramos el derecho al sufragio fue aprobada por el Congreso el 4 de junio de 1919 y ratificada el 18 de agosto de 1920. La enmienda 19 otorgó y garantizo a todas las mujeres estadounidenses el derecho al voto, este logro histórico fue el resultado de una larga y difícil lucha.

Esta fecha histórica para las mujeres me recordó que hay muchos otros derechos intrínsecos por los que deberíamos “pelear” a diario pero que no les damos el verdadero valor que tienen.

Uno de ellos es el derecho a querernos a nosotros mismos, a sentir amor hacia nosotros para que desde allí podamos tener una autoestima sana que nos

lleve a tener relaciones interpersonales sanas.

¿Qué significa esto de “quererse a uno mismo”?Querernos a nosotros mismos es permitirnos sacar a la luz la mejor versión de cada uno, es darnos la oportunidad de mostrar el gran potencial que tenemos a nivel personal, afectivo, profesional y espiritual.

Además, esto también implica entender nuestras necesidades, aceptarnos, respetarnos y amarnos por ser esa persona única que somos. Quererse significa ser honestos con nosotros mismos y comprometernos con la vida y el bienestar propio para poder relacionarnos mejor con el entorno.

Cuando nos miramos desde el amor y no desde la crítica vivimos con optimismo en el presente y con ese mismo optimismo podremos construir un buen futuro. Quererse a uno mismo, es dejar de exigirnos más de lo que realmente podemos, es no dejarnos llevar por la ansiedad e infravalorar quienes somos actualmente. Para darnos ese valor que nos merecemos es preciso romper con las falsas creencias que arrastramos del pasado, esas que condicionan nuestro presente y nos llevan a pensar constantemente en un futuro. Esta forma de vida que inconscientemente llevamos no nos permite valorar nuestro talento, los rasgos maravillosos de nuestra personalidad y a su vez nos perdemos de apreciar eventos de nuestra vida actual.

Quererse a uno mismo es no tener miedo a mostrarnos tal y como somos en los distintos ámbitos en que nos movemos. Queremos es atrevernos a quitar esos escudos que ponemos y ver la realidad, es aceptar el presente con sus obstáculos y dificultades para así conectar mejor con las personas y con nuestros objetivos personales.

Cuando estamos preparados para pelear por el derecho a amarnos a nosotros mismos, cuando nos liberamos de la presión por no fracasar, es cuando se produce el máximo desarrollo personal de nuestras habilidades y capacidades.

Amarse a uno mismo implica ponerse primero y no, no es egoísmo es autocuidado.

Celébrate de la misma forma que celebras este hito en la historia de los derechos de la mujer en los Estados Unidos y en el mundo entero.

Si apela a ti practícalo, si apela a alguien más…. compártelo y así estarás contribuyendo al crecimiento y autocuidado tan necesario para evolucionar.

The campaign for women’s suffrage began several decades before the Civil War. During the 1820s and 30s, most states had extended the franchise to all white men, regardless of how much money or property they had.

During these times, all kinds of reform groups were proliferating across the United States in which women played prominent roles. Such groups included temperance leagues, religious movements, moral-reform societies, anti- slavery organizations, and others.

In 1848, reformers Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Lucretia Mott invited a group of abolitionist activists, mostly women, but also included some men, to gather in Seneca Falls, New York to discuss the problem of women’s rights.

the 14th Amendment and the 15th Amendment to the Constitution raised familiar questions of suffrage and citizenship.The 14th Amendment, which extended the Constitution’s protection to all citizens and the 15th Amendment, which guaranteed black men the right to vote, were ratified in 1868 and 1870 respectively.

Some women’s suffrage advocates believed that this was their chance to push lawmakers for truly universal suffrage. As a result, they refused to support the 15th Amendment and even allied with racist Southerners who argued that white women’s votes could be used to neutralize those cast by African Americans.In 1869, a new group called the National Woman Suffrage Association was founded by Elizabeth Cady Stanton and Susan B. Anthony. They began to fight for a universal-suffrage amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

There was disagreement from other sectors who thought it was unfair to endanger black enfranchisement by tying it to the less popular campaign for female suffrage. This pro-15th-Amendment faction formed a group called the American Woman Suffrage Association and fought for the franchise on a state-by-state basis.

Eventually, the two groups came together, in 1890, to form the National American Woman Suffrage Association. Elizabeth Cady Stanton was the organization’s first president.

By then, the suffragists’ approach had changed. Instead of arguing that women deserved the same rights and responsibilities as men because women and men were “created equal,” the new generation of activists argued that women deserved the vote because they were different from men.

They could make their domesticity into a political virtue, using the franchise to create a purer, more moral “maternal commonwealth.”

This argument served many political agendas: Temperance advocates, for instance, wanted women to have the vote because they thought it would mobilize an enormous voting bloc on behalf of their cause, and many middle-class white people were swayed once again by the argument that the enfranchisement of white women would “ensure immediate and durable white supremacy, honestly attained.”

Starting in 1910, some states in the West began to extend the vote to women for the first time in almost 20 years. Idaho and Utah had given women the right to vote at the end of the 19th century.

In 1916, NAWSA president Carrie Chapman Catt unveiled a campaign that mobilized state and local suffrage organizations all over the country.

In today’s world where we are living in unprecedented times of uncertainty, change in routine, and to some, the feeling of isolation, we must all keep a check on our young people. Kids are meant to be social and for many, their entire world is centered around being with friends. That may not be possible now. We all believe “my child would NEVER do something like that!” That is what the majority of every parent who has lost a child to suicide would have told you.

What are warning signs or behaviors that my child may be thinking about suicide?

Teen suicide often occurs after a recent stressful life event in the family, with a friend, or at school. It is important for you to know the warning signs for suicide so you can get your child the help she/he needs. A child who is considering suicide might have one or more of these behaviors:

• Suicidal ideation (thinking, writing, drawing or talking about suicide, death, dying or the afterlife) • Dependence on alcohol or drugs• Lack of a sense of purpose in life• Trouble focusing or thinking clearly• Increased withdrawal from family, friends, school, jobs and society. Poor grades may be a sign that the child is withdrawing at school.• Lack of interest in favorite activities• Reckless or risk-taking behaviors• Rash, bizarre or violent behavior• Changed eating or sleeping patterns (such as being unable to sleep or sleeping all the time)

• Deep feelings of grief, uncontrolled anger, anxiety, shame, hopelessness, guilt or anxiety

There is a way you can help support our area children. United for a Good Cause, Inc., a 501c3 non-profit organization is doing their part in bringing HOPE to our area through the HOPE SQUAD Peer to Peer Suicide Prevention program. All public middle, high and K-12 schools in Okaloosa County School District will launch the program as school starts back the end of August. All OCSD elementary schools will launch the program in January 2021. In addition, Escambia County School District is starting the program in two middle schools with the start of school and more to come later. Fifty-one OCSD staff advisors where trained and certified in April to facilitate the national program now in over 800 schools around the country.

Suicide is the 2nd leading cause of death in ages 10-17 and Okaloosa county ranks in the top 10 counties statewide in the number of youth suicides ages 10-24 with at least 30 reported suicides in the five-year span of 2014 to 2018. The Hispanic suicide rate grew by 65% in that time frame.

Most airlines retired their 747s (and Airbus A380s) immediately. Of course, you’ll still be able to fly a Jumbo as Lufthansa, China Airlines, Korean Air Lines, and a couple of others will keep newer 747s flying for a while. And, of course, Air Force One aircraft are 747s and will continue to be for probably 30 years!

Each week, I meet with several groups of entrepreneurs from around the world as well as conduct one-on-one referral partnership interviews. The number one problem they need solved is generating qualified leads for their businesses. Quality leads are the lifeblood of every business. Not everyone in your sphere of influence

is your client or customer, but 100% should be your referral partner… but are they?

Referral partnerships aren’t created “automatically” just because you are family, friends, or neighbors; nor because you belong to the same church, club, or organization. We do business with those we know, like, and trust… and that takes time to cultivate. Referral partnerships are developed in a similar way, are much more intentional in nature, and can have exponential consequences to your bottom line.

What does it take to become a highly effective referral partner? How do you attract referral partners? Step 1: You must first become a quality referral partner yourself! You must excite and delight not only your customers and clients but go that extra mile for your referral partners as well. You might be surprised that it does not necessarily have to be “cash” incentives that gets your partners

excited. Think outside the box and pay attention to your referral partners hot buttons. Are they a raving sports fan? Do they have a hobby, grandkids? Or do they have a cause that is near and dear to their heart?

What separates the pros from amateurs is willing to commit to the relationship on paper. A

simple affiliate agreement can meet this requirement but it is enough for each partner to understand this is a business relationship. August is a month of great celebration for the female gender in the United States since the law that allowed women to exercise the right to vote was approved by Congress on June 4, 1919 and ratified on August 18, 1920. The Amendment 19 granted and guaranteed all American women the right to vote, this historical achievement was the result of a long struggle.

This landmark for women reminded me that there are many other intrinsic rights that we should “fight” on a daily basis but that we do not give them the true value they have. One of them is the right to love ourselves, to feel love for ourselves so we can have a healthy self-esteem that leads us to have healthy relationships.

What does this mean of “loving yourself”? Loving ourselves is allowing us to bring out the best version of ourselves, it is giving oneself the opportunity to show the great potential that we have on a personal, emotional, professional and spiritual level. In addition, loving ourselves implies understanding our needs, accepting, respecting and loving the unique person that we are. It means committing to a life of well-being, committing to be in communion with the inner self to better relate to others.

When we look at ourselves from love and not from criticism, we live with optimism in the present and with that same optimism we can build a good future. To love oneself, is to stop demanding more of ourselves than we really can, is not allowing ourselves

to be carried away by anxiety and underestimate who we are today. It means to give us the value that we deserve, it is necessary to break with the limiting beliefs that we carry from the past, those that condition our present and lead us to constantly think about the future. This way of living leads us to undervalue our talent, the wonderful traits of our personality and we lose the opportunity to appreciate what is actually happening today.

Loving ourselves implicates not to be afraid to show who we are in the different aspects of our lives. It means to dare to remove those shields that we put on and see reality, it is to accept the present with its obstacles and difficulties in order to better connect with others and with our personal goals.

When we are prepared to fight for the right to love ourselves, when we are freed from the pressure of not to fail, it is when the maximum personal development occurs.

Loving oneself implies putting yourself first and no, it is not selfishness, it is self-care.

Celebrate yourself in the same way that you celebrate this milestone in the history of women’s rights in the United States and around the world.

If it appeals to you, practice it, if it appeals to someone else…. share it and thus you will be contributing to the growth and self-care that is necessary to evolve.

what! It takes no more effort, time or money. It just takes you believing that every person is uniquely created with strengths and talents. We are all one of a kind with the capacity to grow and develop into our purpose in life.
