Calibre de extensión

Las herramientas de doble aislamiento y aislamiento reforzado eliminan la necesidad de un cable de corriente de tres partes con conexión a tierra o de un sistema de corriente eléctrica con conexión a tierra.

Al usar un cable de extensión, asegúrese de usar el calibre suficiente para transportar la corriente que consumirá su herramienta. Un cable de un calibre inferior ocasionará caídas de tensión en la línea, teniendo como resultado pérdida de potencia y sobrecalentamiento del motor. La siguiente tabla muestra el tamaño correcto que debe usarse dependiendo de la longitud del cable y de la capacidad de amperes indicada en la placa de datos de la herramienta. Si tiene dudas use el siguiente calibre más alto.

Mantenga alejados a los niños y curiosos cuando opere la herramienta.Las distracciones pueden hacer que pierda el control.

Seguridad eléctricaLa clavija de la herramienta debe coincidir con el tomacorrien-te. Nunca modifique una clavija. No use ningún tipo de adaptador para clavijas de herramientas puestas a tierra.Clavijas modificadas y enchufes diferentes aumentan el riesgo dechoque eléctrico.

Evite el contacto del cuerpo con superficies puestas a tierra como tuberías, radiadores, cocinas eléctricas y refrigeradores.Hay un mayor riesgo de choque eléctrico si el cuerpo está puesto a tierra.

No exponga la herramienta a la lluvia o condiciones de humedad.El agua que ingresa en la herramienta aumenta el riesgo de choque eléctrico.

No fuerce el cable. Nunca use el cable para transportar, levantar o desconectar la herramienta. Mantenga el cable lejos del calor, aceite, orillas afiladas o piezas en movimiento.Los cables dañados o enredados aumentan el riesgo de choque eléctrico.

Cuando maneje una herramienta en exteriores, use una extensión especial para uso en exteriores.El uso de una extensión adecuada para exteriores reduce el riesgo de choque eléctrico.

Si el uso de la herramienta en un lugar húmedo es inevitable, use una alimentación protegida por un interruptor de circuito de falla a tierra (GFCI).El uso de un GFCI reduce el riesgo de choque eléctrico.

Seguridad personalEsté alerta, vigile lo que está haciendo y use el sentido común cuando maneje una herramienta. No la use si está cansado o bajo la influencia de drogas, alcohol o medicamentos.Un momento de distracción mientras maneja la herramienta puedecausar un daño personal.

Use equipo de seguridad. Use siempre protección para los ojos.El uso de equipo de seguridad como lentes de seguridad, mascarilla antipolvo, zapatos antideslizantes, casco y protección para los oídos en condiciones apropiadas, reduce de manera significativa los daños personales.

Evite arranques accidentales. Asegúrese de que el interruptor está en posición “apagado” antes de conectar a la fuente de alimentación y/o a la batería o transportar la herramienta.Transportar herramientas eléctricas con el dedo sobre el interruptor oconectar herramientas eléctricas que tienen el interruptor en posición de “encendido” puede causar accidentes.

Retire cualquier llave o herramienta de ajuste antes de arrancar la herramienta eléctrica.Las llaves o herramientas que quedan en las partes rotativas de la herramienta pueden causar un daño personal.

No sobrepase su campo de acción. Mantenga ambos pies bien asentados sobre el suelo y conserve el equilibrio en todo momento.Esto permite un mejor control de la herramienta en situaciones inesperadas.

Vista adecuadamente. No vista ropa suelta o joyas. Mantenga su pelo, su ropa y guantes alejados de las piezas en movimiento.La ropa o el pelo sueltos o las joyas pueden quedar atrapados en las piezas en movimiento.

En caso de contar con dispositivos de extracción y recolección de polvo conectados a la herramienta, verifique sus conexiones y úselos correctamente.El uso de estos dispositivos reduce los riesgos relacionados con el polvo.

Uso y cuidados de la herramientaNo fuerce la herramienta. Use la herramienta adecuada para el trabajo a realizar.La herramienta adecuada hace un trabajo mejor y más seguro cuandose usa al ritmo para el que fue diseñada.

No use la herramienta si el interruptor no funciona.Cualquier herramienta eléctrica que no pueda encenderse oapagarse es peligrosa y debe repararse antes de ser operada.

Desconecte la herramienta de la fuente de alimentación y/o de la batería antes de efectuar cualquier ajuste, cambiar accesorios o almacenarla.Estas medidas reducen el riesgo de arrancar la herramienta accidentalmente.

Almacene las herramientas fuera del alcance de los niños y no permita su manejo por personas no familiarizadas con las herramientas o con las instrucciones.Las herramientas eléctricas son peligrosas en manos no entrenadas.

Déle mantenimiento a la herramienta. Compruebe que las partes móviles no estén desalineadas o trabadas, que nohaya piezas rotas u otras condiciones que puedan afectar su operación. Repare cualquier daño antes de usar la herramienta.Muchos accidentes son causados por el escaso mantenimiento de las herramientas.

Mantenga los accesorios de corte afilados y limpios.Los accesorios de corte en buenas condiciones son menos probables de trabarse y más fáciles de controlar.

Use la herramienta, sus componentes y accesorios de acuerdo con estas instrucciones y de la manera prevista para el tipo de herramienta, en condiciones de trabajo adecuadas.El uso de la herramienta para aplicaciones diferentes para las queestá diseñada podría causar una situación de peligro.

ServicioRepare la herramienta en un Centro de Servicio Autorizado usando sólo piezas de repuesto idénticas.Para mantener la seguridad de la herramienta.

Advertencias generales de seguridadpara herramientas eléctricas

Generales

• Aleje las manos del área de corte y del disco de corte. Al operar la herramienta sosténgala con firmeza por el mango y el mango auxiliar con ambas manos para evitar lesiones accidentales y prevenir la pérdida de control.

• El contacto accidental con un disco de corte que esté girando puede ocasionar lesiones personales de gravedad.

• NUNCA sostenga la pieza a cortar con las manos o sobre una pierna. Sujete la pieza de trabajo de manera adecuada para evitar el contacto del cuerpo con el disco de corte, evitar que éste se doble o perder el control de la herramienta o la pieza de trabajo.

• No intente retirar material de desecho cuando el disco de corte esté girando.

• Recuerde que las guardas no lo protejen del disco en movimiento por debajo de la pieza de trabajo, por lo que jamás deberá ponerse en cuclillas o meter la mano por debajo de ella con la herramienta en marcha.

• Antes de cada uso revise que la guarda retráctil y su resorte funcionen correctamente, si la guarda no se mueve libremente o no se cierra de manera instantánea deles servicio antes de operar la herramienta.

• Mientras traslada la herramienta no acerque el disco a su cuerpo. En caso de un encendido accidental la guarda retráctil se puede abrir al entrar en contacto con su ropa.

• Operar la herramienta sosteniéndola por sus partes aisladas evita descargas al operario en caso de que el disco haga contacto con cableado eléctrico oculto.

• Mantenga SIEMPRE el cable de alimentación alejado del área de corte. El cable de alimentación JAMÁS debe colgar sobre la pieza de trabajo cuando haga el corte.

• Esta herramienta no debe ser montada en una mesa para usarse como sierra de banco. Este tipo de herramienta no está diseñada para ese propósito.

Contragolpe

Por contragolpe nos referimos al movimiento repentino y con fuerza que sufre la herramienta hacia afuera de la pieza de trabajo y que puede hacer perder el control al operario o incluso provocarle una lesión. Por lo regular es ocasionado cuando el disco de corte se atora en la pieza o por una operación deficiente. Para evitarlo se deben tomar las siguientes precauciones:

• Utilice discos de corte en buen estado y cerciórese que estén bien instalados. Los discos doblados, dañados, con dientes gastados o sin filo, o que estén mal instalados tienden a atorarse en el material provocando contragolpes.

• Al operar la herramienta sosténgala con firmeza con una mano en el mango y la otra mano en el mango auxiliar. Utilice siempre ambas manos. Mantenga su cuerpo bien equilibrado y en una posición estable con ambos pies en el piso para resistir la fuerza de un posible contragolpe.

• Para realizar un corte alinee el disco con el eje de corte y espere a que el disco alcance su máxima velocidad antes de comenzar a cortar. No intente cortar la pieza de trabajo con los dientes del disco apoyados en ella, podría provocar un contragolpe.

• Para reiniciar el trabajo dentro de un corte, centre el disco en el corte y revise que los dientes no estén enterrados en el material.

• Si nota que el disco se dobla o se interrumpe el corte durante la operación de la herramienta, suelte el interruptor y sostenga la herramienta dentro de la pieza de trabajo hasta que el disco se detenga por completo. No intente retirar el disco mientras siga en movimiento, podría provocar un contragolpe.

• Para minimizar el riesgo de que el disco se atore y provoque un contragolpe, antes de cortar una pieza de madera retire todos los clavos. La madera húmeda, pandeada o tratada a presión requieren de especial atención durante el corte. Al cortar tablones grandes utilice sostenes cerca de ambos lados de la linea de corte para evitar que el propio peso del material doble el tablón y cierre el corte atrapando el disco. La goma y resina de la madera que se endurece en los discos de corte, hacen lenta la sierra. Utilice removedor de goma y resina, agua caliente o keroseno para retirar esas acumulaciones. NO use gasolina.

• Tenga mucho cuidado cuando haga un corte de bolsillo en paredes o sitios ciegos. El disco puede hacer contacto con objetos ocultos y provocar un contragolpe.

• Mientras esté operando la herramienta no coloque la mano ni el cuerpo alineados al eje de corte, pues de ocurrir un contragolpe existe la posibilidad de una lesión grave.

• Una posición de profundidad de corte excesiva aumenta la carga en la unidad y la posibilidad de que se doble el disco dentro del corte. También aumenta la probabilidad de que se cierre el corte y que aumente el área disponible por encima del disco de corte.

Materiales tóxicos

El polvo originado al cortar ciertos materiales contienen substancias químicas que se sabe causan cáncer, defectos de nacimiento y otros daños reproductivos. Algunas de estas substancias químicas son:

• Plomo en pinturas con base de plomo.• Sílice cristalino en tabiques y cemento, y otros productos de mampostería.• Arsénico y cromo en madera tratada con substancias químicas.• Asbesto.

El riesgo que se puede tener debido a exposición a estas substancias varía según la frecuencia con que se haga este tipo de trabajo. Para reducir la exposición a estas substancias químicas, trabaje en áreas bien ventiladas, y use el equipo de seguridad adecuado, tal como mascarillas contra polvo diseñadas específicamentepara filtrar partículas microscópicas.

Mango giratorio

Guarda retráctil

Antes de cada uso revise que la guarda retráctil (B) y su resorte (C) funcionen correctamente, si la guarda no se mueve libremente o no se cierra de manera instantánea deles servicio antes de operar la herramienta.

La guarda retráctil puede funcionar con lentitud debido a partes dañadas, depósitos gomosos o acumulación de desechos. Para evitar esta posibilidad limpie con regularidad el interior de ambas guardas y el eje del disco con keroseno o aire comprimido. Antes de realizar esta limpieza desconecte la herramienta y retire los discos de corte.

La guarda retráctil se puede abrir manualmente, únicamente para cambiar los discos y hacer cortes de marcado de corte o corte combinado. Abra la guarda retráctil con su palanca (D). Tan pronto como el disco entre en el material, se debe soltar la palanca. Para cualquier otro tipo de cortes la guarda retráctil debe operar de manera automática. Nunca fije la guarda retráctil en la posición abierta.

El mango de la herramienta puede girar para poder operarla con más comodidad dependiendo del trabajo a realizar. Presione el botón de bloqueo (A) y gire el mango a la posición deseada hasta que escuche un “clic”.

Partes

La guarda retráctil puede doblarse por un golpe o caída. Antes de operar la herramienta asegúrese de que se mueva libremente en todos los ángulos y profundidades de corte, y que no toque el disco de corte o alguna otra parte de la herramienta.

Revise que la guarda retráctil cubra el disco de corte antes de colocar la sierra en un banco o en el piso. Un disco que esté girando por inercia puede provocar que la sierra se desplace hacia atrás, cortando lo que se encuentre a su paso. Verifique que el disco deje de moverse después de apagar la herramienta.

Recuerde que las guardas no lo protegen del disco en movimiento por debajo de la pieza de trabajo, por lo que jamás deberá ponerse en cuclillas o meter la mano por debajo de ella con la herramienta en marcha.

Montaje de los discos de corte

Los discos de corte especificados para esta herramienta son de 12.7 cm (5”). Nunca debe usar otro tipo o medida de disco de corte. De lo contrario puede ocasionar lesiones personales de gravedad o dañar la herramienta invalidando su garantía.

• Desconecte la herramienta y coloque la sierra con las guardas hacia arriba.

• Inserte el disco A en la brida (con la letra A hacia arriba), alineando las ranuras del orificio del disco con los tornillos de la brida.

• Inserte el disco B en el eje (con la letra B hacia arriba).

• Enrosque el bloqueador en el eje, NO lo apriete.

• Gire los discos hasta alinear los orificios de ambos discos e inserte el pasador en los orificios alineados.

• Apriete el bloqueador con la llave y retire el pasador de los discos de corte.

• Con la mano, gire con cuidado los discos para asegurarse que giran en direcciones opuestas con facilidad.

• Invierta los pasos para retirar los discos.

Sólo discos limpios, afilados y bien instalados

pueden garantizar un buen corte. Tenga a la mano discos de corte extra para tener discos

afilados siempre disponibles.

Montaje

Utilice discos de corte con orificios de la medida y forma correcta para el eje (diamante versus redondo). De lo contrario pueden girar con un movimiento excéntrico provocando pérdida de control y no habrá un engranaje correcto del regulador de torque (vari-torque).

Nunca utilice arandelas y pernos para disco dañados o que no sean los correctos. Los pernos y arandelas incluidos están diseñados especialmente para este modelo de herramienta, para un funcionamiento excelente y brindar seguridad en su operación. Las arandelas del disco de corte y el perno funcionan como “EMBRAGUE VARIABLE DE TORQUE”. Debe comprender la operación y las posiciones del EMBRAGUE VARIABLE DE TORQUE por completo ya que la posición correcta del EMBRAGUE combinado con un manejo firme permitirán el control de la herramienta en caso de contragolpe.

La vida útil de los discos de corte y la calidad de los cortes dependen de mantener las vibraciones al mínimo.

Una vez que los discos de corte se desgasten deben reemplazarse de inmediato.

Puesta en marcha

• Utilice prensas o mordazas para sujetar y mantener fija la pieza de trabajo, colóquelas cerca de la línea de corte. Tome en cuenta que la cara de la pieza de trabajo que quede hacia abajo tendrá un mejor acabado. Marque la linea de corte con un lápiz.

• Sostenga la herramienta con firmeza con una mano en el mango y la otra mano en el mango auxiliar. Utilice siempre ambas manos. La herramienta debe quedar del lado derecho de su cuerpo, de manera que éste NUNCA quede alineado con el disco de corte. Mantenga una posición estable y equilibrada con ambos pies en el piso.

• Mantenga la herramienta con una inclinación de 30° y con el disco perpendicular a la pieza de trabajo.

• Esta herramienta está diseñada para hacer cortes rectos únicamente.

• Encienda la herramienta cerca de la pieza de trabajo y espere a que los discos alcancen su velocidad máxima antes de iniciar el corte.

• Comience a cortar con un movimiento firme y continuo, cuidando de no forzar la herramienta. El peso de la herramienta ayudará a mantener un movimiento suave. Mantenga en todo momento el ángulo de 30° de la herramienta. No se detenga hasta terminar el corte.

• Permita que la guarda retráctil se abra conforme es empujada por la pieza de trabajo.

• Al terminar el corte libere el interruptor para apagar la herramienta y espere a que los discos de corte se detengan por completo para poder sacarlos de la pieza de trabajo. NO intente sacar los discos de corte de la pieza de trabajo mientras estén girando.

• Cuando haga un aserrado paralelo al canto o al hilo de la madera, utilice una guarda de aserrar o una guía para cantos. Esto aumenta la precisión del corte y reduce el riesgo de que el disco se doble.

• Conecte la clavija al tomacorriente.• Mantenga presionado el seguro del interruptor (B) para desbloquear el interruptor (A).El seguro del interruptor evita encendidos accidentales.• Presione el interruptor (A) para que los discos comiencen a girar.• Para detener los discos suelte el interruptor (A).

La sierra multicorte es una herramienta eléctrica manual muy versátil. Su acción de corte y discos especiales hacen cortes suaves y de manera eficiente en una extensa variedad de materiales, como: madera de hasta 25,4 mm (1“) de espesor, tubería y láminas de acero suave de 4,2 mm (1/6“) de espesor, o plástico con espesor de hasta 4,2 mm (1/6“).

También puede cortar aluminio, cobre, acero inoxidable, tuberías o láminas de hierro forjado de 4,2 mm (1/6“) de espesor, siempre y cuando los discos sean lubricados durante el corte con una barra de cera lubricante.

La herramienta no corta materiales de mampostería, cemento o ladrillo.ATENCIÓN

La velocidad con la que los discos pueden ser empujados dentro de la pieza de trabajo mientras se realiza un corte depende de la dureza y espesor del material de la pieza de trabajo.Para determinar la velocidad correcta haga cortes de prueba en piezas de desecho del mismo material de la pieza de trabajo, tomando en cuenta las siguientes consideraciones, pues un mal corte desgasta en exceso los discos de corte:

Si la velocidad de avance es muy lenta:• Los discos de corte sólo presionan el material en vez de cortarlo.• Las orillas de los discos se resbalan y estropean el material.Si la velocidad de avance es muy rápida:• El corte puede dividirse, haciendo que las aberturas astilladas del corte no sean lo suficientemente amplias para desviar las virutas de la madera atascando los discos.

Lubricación de los discos de corte

Observaciones

Para cortar aluminio, cobre, acero inoxidable, tuberías o láminas de hierro forjado de4,2 mm (1/6“) de espesor es imprescindible mantener los discos de corte lubricados durante el corte de la siguiente manera:

• Inserte una barra de cera lubricante en el orificio del dispositivo de lubricación.

• Gire la perilla dosificadora de cera lubricante un cuarto de vuelta.

Antes de insertar las barras de cera dentro del dispositivo, se deben retirar las tapas de seguridad que tienen en cada extremo. De no hacerlo las barras lubricantes no funcionarán y pueden dañar la herramienta.

El ancho del corte del disco doble es de aproximadamente 4,74 mm (3/16). Asegúrese de tener este ancho de corte.

Al cortar metal los discos no producen chispas sino esquirlas calientes. Para protección de la cara se recomienda el uso de careta sobre lentes de seguridad.

Corte de lámina acanalada

Para cortar lámina acanalada de hasta 4,2 mm (1/6”) SIEMPRE debe sujetar la placa con bloques de soporte por ambos lados de forma pareja y en la parte media. Esto previene que se doble cuando se haga el corte. Se debe seguir esta indicación, aún si se utiliza una mesa con tornillo de banco o con tornillos ajustados a la mesa de trabajo.

Corte penetrante

• Abra por completo la guarda retráctil.

• Con la mano izquierda tome el mango auxiliar y con el pulgar sostenga la palanca de control de la guarda retráctil para mantenerla abierta.

• Encienda la herramienta y penetre los discos en el material de la pieza de trabajo. Una vez dentro del material empuje los discos hacia adelante para completar el corte.

• Antes de retirar los discos de la pieza de trabajo apague la herramienta y espere que los discos de corte se detengan por completo.

NOTA: Cuando corte materiales para techar, los discos se deben limpiar con un solvente de limpieza para brea y alquitrán.

Recuerde desconectar la herramienta antes de limpiarla o darle mantenimiento.

Todos los componentes de la herramienta son parte importante del sistema de aislamiento y solamente se les debe dar mantenimiento en un Centro de Servicio Autorizado .

Cuando mande la herramienta a mantenimiento, pida SIEMPRE refacciones originales .

Cuando limpie las partes de plástico, evite usar solventes. La mayoría de los materiales plásticos son susceptibles a dañarse con varios tipos de solventes comerciales.

Para limpiar suciedad, carbón o polvo use un trapo limpio o aire a presión.

A DVERTENCIANUNCA se debe poner la herramienta en contacto con aceite para frenos, productos con base de petróleo, aceites penetrantes, etc. Contienen substancias químicas que pueden dañar o destruir el plástico.

Cuando use aire a presión para limpiar partículas use SIEMPRE lentes de seguridad con protectores laterales o careta, en caso de expulsar mucho polvo, use también una mascarilla contra polvo.

No es recomendable que esta herramienta se use para trabajos extensos en materiales de fibra de vidrio, cartón de yeso, emplastecidos o yeso, ya que sus partículas son altamente abrasivas para los componentes de cualquier herramienta eléctrica. En caso de usar la herramienta en alguno de esos materiales es muy importante que se limpie frecuentemente con aire a presión para aumentar la vida útil de la herramienta.

Lubricación

Los rodamientos de la herramienta tienen lubricante de alto grado para mantenerla lubricada de por vida cuando se usa en condiciones normales. No requiere lubricación.ADVERTENCIA

La cantidad de esquirlas al cortar metal es inusualmente poca.

Mucho desgaste por secciones.

Los discos de corte se rompen.

• Los dientes de los discos de corte están dañados, romos o sin filo.• La velocidad de corte es demasiado lenta.

• La velocidad de corte es demasiado rápida.• Los dientes de los discos de corte están dañados, romos o sin filo.• El corte no se hace con los discos perpendicula-res a la pieza de trabajo.

• Los dientes de los discos de corte están dañados, romos o sin filo.• La velocidad de corte es demasiado rápida.• Los discos de corte están torcidos.• Los discos de corte están quemados.• La superficie a cortar es demasiado dura.

• Los discos no están instalados correctamente.• El corte no se hace con los discos perpendicula-res a la pieza de trabajo.

• Reemplace los discos de corte.

• Aumente la velocidad de corte.

• Reduzca la velocidad de corte.• Reemplace los discos de corte.

• Haga el corte con los discos orientados perpendicularmente a la pieza de trabajo.

• Reemplace los discos de corte.

• Reduzca la velocidad de corte.• Reemplace los discos de corte.• Reemplace los discos de corte.• Asegúrese que el material esté dentro de las especificaciones de capacidad de la herramienta.• Instale los discos correctamente.• Haga el corte con los discos orientados perpendicularmente a la pieza de trabajo.

Problema Causa Solución

En caso que note una elevación en la temperatura de la carcasa del motor y la herramienta está demasiado caliente para sostenerla, apáguela y deje que llegue a temperatura ambiente. Antes de volver a usarla, revise si los discos de corte no están gastados. En caso de no seguir esta indicación, la herramienta sufrirá un daño permanente.

Dependiendo del uso, es probable que el interruptor no tenga la misma vida útil que la herramienta. En caso de que el interruptor falle en la posición “OFF”, la herramienta no encenderá. En caso que falle cuando la herramienta esté funcionando, es probable que no la pueda apagar. En cualquiera de estos casos, desconecte la herramienta de inmediato y no la use hasta que sea reparada.

Cambio de carbones

• Es necesario reemplazar los carbones desgastados (quemados, rotos o de menos de 5 mm de largo), con carbones nuevos.• Cuando se haga el cambio de carbones siempre deben cambiarse los dos carbones.• Retire los carbones desgastados del portacarbones y retire el polvo acumulado con aire comprimido.• Coloque los carbones nuevos invirtiendo el orden. Los carbones deben caer en los portacarbones fácilmente.• Después de colocar los carbones nuevos, permita que la herramienta funcione durante 10 minutos sin carga de trabajo para que los carbones tengan un mejor ajuste.• Sólo se deben de usar carbones de repuesto , diseñados con la dureza y la resistencia eléctrica adecuada para cada tipo de motor. Los carbones fuera de especificaciones pueden dañar el motor.

Personal safetyStay alert, watch what you are doing and use common sense when operating a tool. Do not use a power tool while you are tired or under the influence of drugs, alcohol or medication.A moment of distraction while operating the tool may result in personal injury.

Use personal protective equipment. Always wear eye protection.Protective equipment such as safety glasses, anti-dust mask, non-skid shoes, hard hats and hearing protection used in the right conditions significantly reduce personal injury.

Prevent unintentional starting up. Ensure the switch is in the “OFF” position before connecting into the power source and / or battery as well as when carrying the tool.Transporting power tools with the finger on the switch or connecting power tools with the switch in the “ON” position may cause accidents.

Remove any wrench or vice before turning the power tool on.Wrenches or vices left attached to rotating parts of the tool may result in personal injury.

Power Tools Use and Care Do not force the tool. Use the adequate tool for your application.The correct tool delivers a better and safer job at the rate for which it was designed.

Do not use the tool if the switch is not working properly.Any power tool that cannot be turned ON or OFF is dangerous and should be repaired before operating.

WARNING! Read carefully all safety warnings and instructions listed below. Failure to comply with any of these warnings may result in electric shock, fire and / or severe damage. Save all warnings and instructions for future references.

General

• Keep your hands away from the cutting area and the cutting disc. While operating hold the tool firmly with both hands in the handle and auxiliary handle to prevent accidental injury and to prevent from loosing control.

• Making contact by accident with a rotating cutting disc may cause severe personal injury.

• NEVER hold the piece to be cut with your hands or on your leg. Fasten the work piece properly to prevent your body making contact with the disc or to prevent binding of the disc or loosing control of the tool or work piece.

• Do not try to remove scrap material when the cutting disc is rotating.

• Remember that the guard do not protect you from the moving disc below the work piece. Therefore never squat or try to put your hand below the work piece when the machine is running.

• Before each use double-check the retractable guard and its spring work correctly. Service the tool before operating the tool if the guard does not move freely or is not closing instantaneously.

• Do not put the disc near your body while carrying the tool. In the event of an accidental start up. The retractable guard can be opened when making contact with your clothes.

• Holding the tool by its insulated parts prevents electric shock to the user in the event of making contact with hidden wiring.

• ALWAYS keep the power cable away from the cutting area. When cutting, the power cable SHALL NEVER hang on top of the work piece.

• This tool shall never be fixed onto a table to use as a bench saw. This type of tool is not designed for that purpose.

Kickback

Kickback is a sudden and powerful movement of the tool out of the work piece. It can make the user loosing control and cause severe injury. Usually it is caused when the cutting disc is stuck in the piece or due to deficient operation. To avoid this to happen the following caution measures shall be taken:

• Use cutting discs that are in good shape. Double check they are properly fixed. Bent, damages or blunt discs get stuck in the material causing kickback.

• When operating the tool hold it firmly with one hand and the other hand on the auxiliary handle. Always use both hands. Keep good footing and balance. Set both feet on the ground to prevent a possible kickback.

• To make a cut align the disc with the cutting axle and wait until the disc reaches its maximum speed before starting to cut. Do not try to cut the work piece with the discs teeth on the piece. It could cause kickback.

• To restart working inside a cut, center the cutting disc and check the teeth are not buried into the material.

• While operating, if the disc bends or stops cutting, release the switch and hold the tool inside the work piece until t he disc comes to a complete stop. Do not try t o remove the disc while in movement. It could cause kickback.

• To minimize the risk of having the disc stuck and cause kickback, before cutting a piece of wood remove all the nails. Wood that is wet, warped or pressed need special care when cut. When cutting large planks of wood use supports in both sides of the cutting line to prevent that the wood’s own weight warps the plank and closes the cut catching the disc. Wood gum and resin that harden in the cutting disc make the saw run slow. Use a gum and resin remover, hot water or kerosene to remove accumulated material. DO NOT use gasoline.

• Use extreme care when making pocket cuts on walls or blind spots. The disc may make contact with hidden objects and cause kickback.

• While operating the tool do not put your hand or body aligned to the cutting axis. If kickback happens there is the possibility of severe injury.

• Before starting any cut the depth adjusting and bevel levers shall be tight and fastened. If the lever moves during the cut they can bend the disc and cause kickback. An excessive cutting depth position increases the load in the unit and the possibility that the disc is bent inside the cut. It also increases the possibility the cut closes increasing the available area above the cutting disc.

Toxic materials

Dust originated by some materials have chemical substances known to cause cancer, birth defects and other reproductive damage. Some of these chemical substances are:

• Lead in lead-based paints.• Crystal silica in bricks and cement and other masonry products.• Arsenic and chromium in wood treated with chemical substances.• Asbestos.

The risk involved to exposure to these substances varies according to the frequency of the job. To reduce exposure to these chemical substances work in well-ventilated areas and wear the right safety equipment like anti-dust mask specifically designed to filter microscopic particles.

Retractable guard

Before each use double-check the retractable guard (B) and its spring (C) work correctly. If the guard is not moving freely or is not closing instantly, service before operating the tool.

The retractable guard can work slowly because of damaged parts, gummy deposits or debris accumulation. To avoid this possibility clean regularly the inside of both guards and the disc axis with kerosene or compressed air. Before carrying out this cleaning operation disconnect the tool and remove the cutting discs.

The retractable guard can only open manually to change discs and to mark cuts or to combine cuts. Using its lever (D) open the retractable guard. When the material enters into the material, release the lever. To make any other type of cuts the retractable guard shall operate automatically. Never fix the retractable guard in its open position.

The tool handle can rotate to allow a more confortable operation depending on the job. Press the button (A) to block the handle rotation and turn until it clicks into the desired position.

Parts

The retractable guard may get bent due to knocking or falling. Before operating the tool, double-check the disc moves freely in all the angles and cutting depths and the guard is not touching the cutting disc or any other part of the tool.

Before setting the saw on the bench or the floor double-check the retractable guard covers de disc. A rotating disc due to inertia can cause the saw to run backwards and cut whatever it finds on its way. Verify the disc stops moving after turning off the tool.

Remember the guards do not protect the rotating disc underneath the work piece. Never squat or put the hand under the work piece when the tool is running.

Assembly of the cutting discs

The cutting discs specified for this tool are 5” Never use a different cutting disc type or size. Otherwise, it can cause severe personal injury or damage the tool making the Warranty void.

• Disconnect the tool and set the saw with the guard facing up.

• Insert disc A in the flange (with the letter A facing up). Align the disc orifice slots with the flange screws.

• Insert disc B in the axis (with letter B facing up).

• Thread the axis nut. DO NOT tighten.

• Turn the discs until aligning the orifices in both discs and insert the pin into the aligned orifices.

• Tighten the nut with the key and remove the pin from the cutting discs.

• Turn carefully the discs by hand to double-check they rotate easily in opposite directions.

• Reverse the steps to remove the discs.

Only clean, sharp, well-aligned discs can guarantee a good cut.

Have spare cutting discs to always have sharp cutting

discs.

Assembly

Use cutting discs with orifices having the correct size and shape for the axis (diamond versus round). Otherwise they can rotate with an eccentric movement causing loss of control and there is not going to be a good gear assembly for the torque regulator (vari-torque).

Never use damaged or wrong washers and bolts. For an excellent performance and safety to the user the washers and bolts included are designed specifically for this model. The cutting discs washers and bolt work as “VARIABLE TORQUE BRAKE”. You need to learn and understand the operation and positions of the VARIABLE TORQUE BRAKE. The right positions of the BRAKE combined with a firm handling allow controlling the tool in case of kickback.

The useful life of the discs and the cutting quality depend on keeping the vibration to the minimum.

Once the discs are worn they shall be replaced immediately.

Start up

• Use vices or brackets to fasten and keep the work piece fixed. Set them close to the cutting line. Bear in mind that the work piece face looking down will have a better finish. Mark the cutting line with a pencil.

• Firmly hold the tool with one hand grasping handle and the other hand in the auxiliary handle. Always use both hands. The tool must be placed in the right side of your body to NEVER be aligned with the cutting disc. Keep a stable position and good footing with both feet on the ground.

• Keep the tool with a 30° inclination with the disc perpendicular to the work piece.

• This tool is designed only for straight cuts.

• Start the tool near the work piece and wait for the discs to reach their maximum speed before starting to cut.

• Start cutting with a firm and continuous movement using care not to force the tool.The tool own weight will help to keep a soft movement. At all times keep the tool into a 30° angle. Do not stop until finishing the cut.

• Let the retractable guard to open as is pushed by the work piece.

• When the cut is finished release the switch to shut off the tool and wait until the cutting discs have completely stopped to remove them from the work piece. DO NOT try to release the cutting discs from the work piece while rotating.

• When sawing parallel to the edge or ripping use a sawing guard or an edge guide. It increases the cutting precision and reduces the risk of bending the disc.

• Connect the plug into the power outlet.• Keep the switch lock (B) depressed to unblock the switch (A).The switch lock prevents from accidental start-ups.• Press switch (A) to start the discs rotation.• To stop the discs release switch (A).

The multi-purpose handsaw is a very versatile manual power tool. Its cutting action and special discs make soft cuts in an efficient way in a large variety of materials such as: wood up to 1” thick, soft piping and steel sheets 1/6” thick or plastic up to 1/6” thick.

It can also cut aluminum, copper, stainless steel, piping or cast iron sheets up to 1/6” thick, if the discs are lubricated while cutting with a wax lubricating bar.

The tool does not cut masonry materials, cement or brick.

The speed in which the discs can be pushed inside the work piece, while cutting is dependent of the hardness and thickness or the work piece material.To determine the right speed make so e test cuts with scrap pieces of the same material as the work piece. Take into account the following considerations, because a bad cut wears out the disc in excess:

If the traveling speed is too slow:• The cutting discs are only pressing the material instead of cutting it.• The discs edges just slip away and damage the material.If the traveling speed is too fast:• The cut can get separated making splintered openings that are not wide enough to deviate the wood shavings and will block the discs.

Cutting disc lubrication

Observations

To cut aluminum, copper, stainless steel, or cast iron sheets 1/6” thick is essential to keep the cutting discs lubricated during the cut. Do as follows:

• Insert a lubricating wax bar into the orifice in the lubrication device.

• Turn the lubricating wax dosage measure knob one quarter of a turn.

Before inserting the wax lubricating bars into the device, remove the safety caps on each side. Otherwise the lubricating bars will not work and can damage the tool.

The double disc cutting width is approximately 3/16”Verify you have that cutting width.

When cutting metal the discs do not produce sparks; only hot shavings. To protect the face use a facemask on top of safety glasses .

Corrugated steel sheet

To cut corrugated steel sheet up to 1/6” thick, ALWAYS fasten the sheet with support blocks on both sides, evenly and in the middle. This prevents the sheet to bend when cutting. Follow this indication even if using a vise or brackets adjusted to the worktable.

Penetrating cut

• Open the retractable guard completely.

• With your left hand grasp the auxiliary handle and with your thumb hold the retractable guard control lever to keep it open.

• Start the tool and penetrate the discs into the material. Once inside the material push the discs forward to complete the cut.

• Before removing the discs from the work piece shut off the tool and wait for the disc to come to a complete stop.

NOTE: When cutting roofing materials, clean the discs with a solvent to clean tar.

Remember to disconnect the tool before cleaning or servicing.

All the tool components are an important part of the insulation system and can only be serviced in a Authorized Service Center.

When sending the tool to be serviced, ALWAYS ask for original spare parts.

When cleaning plastic parts avoid using solvents. Most of plastic materials are susceptible to damage with several types of commercial solvents.

To clean soot, coal or dust, use a clean cloth or pressurized air.

A DVERT NEVER set the tool in contact with brake fluid, petroleum based products, penetrating oils, etc. They are made with chemical substances that can damage or destroy plastic.

When using pressurized air to clean particles ALWAYS wear safety glasses with side protection or a facemask. If too much dust is expelled wear an anti-dust mask.

It is not advisable to use this tool for extensive jobs in fiberglass materials, gypsum wallboard, plaster or gypsum. The particles shed are highly abrasive for the components of any power tool. In the event of using t he tool on one of these materials it is important to frequently clean the tool with pressurized air to increase the useful life of the tool.

Lubricating

The tool bearings have high-grade lubricant to keep it lubricated for life when used under normal conditions. It does not require lubricating.

Carbon Brush Replacement

• It is necessary to replace worn carbons (or burnt, broken or smaller then 0.19” long) with new carbons.• Replace both carbon brushes every time you need to replace them.• Remove the worn carbons from the carbon housing and use compressed air to remove the accumulated dust.• Set the new carbons reversing the order, carbons should easily drop into the housings.• After setting the new carbon brushes allow the tool to run unloaded 10 minutes so allow the carbons to adjust better.• Use only spare carbon brushes with the adequate electric resistance for each type of motor. Carbon brushes that are out of specifications may damage the motor.

Problem Cause Solution

If you notice an increase of the motor housing temperature, and the tool is too warm to hold, shut it off and allow it to reach room temperature. Before using it again verify the cutting discs are not worn. Failure to comply with this indication will permanently damage the tool.

Depending on the use is possible that the switch will not have the same useful life than the tool. In the event the switch has a failure on the OFF position, the tool will not start. If it fails when the tool is running, is possible you will no be able to shut off. In any of these situations disconnect the tool immediately and do not use it until is repaired.
