Dear Brothers and Sisters,

Fr. Altaire Fernandez’ Departure

I am always very grateful to receive help from God’s laborers. Fr. Altaire Fernandez has been a great help to us here at Sacred Heart Church in the last two months. And for that I am truly thankful to him and ask God to bless him abundantly. He informed me a few days ago that, for personal reasons, he had requested to be moved to a different parish. Of course, I was saddened by his quick departure because we really need help, but I have to respect his decision. The Vicar for Clergy for the Archdiocese has called me offering love, support and assurance that he would find a replacement as soon as possible.

I’d like to ask you to please join me in thanking Fr. Altaire for his time with us and also keep him in your prayers.

I wish you all God’s abiding grace and peace in Christ Jesus our Lord. Amen

La partida de Padre Altaire Fernández Siempre estoy muy agradecido de recibir ayuda de los obreros de Dios. P. Altaire Fernández ha sido de gran ayuda para nosotros aquí en la Iglesia del Sagrado Corazón en los últimos dos meses. Y por eso estoy realmente agradecido con él y le pido a Dios que lo bendiga abundantemente. Él me informó hace unos días que, por razones personales, había solicitado ser trasladado a otra parroquia. Por supuesto, me entristeció su rápida partida porque realmente necesitamos ayuda, pero tengo que respetar su decisión. El Vicario para el Clero de la Arquidiócesis me ha llamado para ofrecerme amor, apoyo y seguridad de que encontraría un reemplazo lo antes posible. Me gustaría pedirle que, por favor, únase a mí para agradecer al Padre. Altaire por su tiempo con nosotros y también mantenerlo en sus oraciones.

This past weekend I had the opportunity to work with Bishop Barron at the Pre Synod for Youth and Vocations. It was a wonderful day listening to Youth and Young Adults share with the Bishop their thoughts on why young people are leaving the church and giving suggestions on how to bring them back. At the end of the day I had the opportunity to talk with Bishop Barron one on one and share with him my thoughts as well. There were 2 things that I wanted to share. First off, community is what is lacking in the church. People, especially teens, treat mass like a chore. We don’t stick around after mass and form community with others. We need community with our teens, we need to form relationships and then grow together in faith. The second thing I shared was that teens aren’t as dumb or faithless as many people treat them, in fact, I would go as far as to say that we have a lot of teens that have more faith than the average church goer. We need to give our teens more responsibility in the parish, not just ask for them to do trash pickup or serve people food at events. Bishop Barron was quite pleased with these statements and said that he agrees. I am hopeful for the future of the church but to have a better tomorrow we have to act today. Sacred Heart Memorial Mass

During the month of November, it is customary to honor our deceased relatives and friends. On Sunday, October 28, 2018 at the 10:30 Mass, we will be honoring our loved ones who have died during the year (after November 2017) in a special way. Their names will be read aloud and a family member will receive a candle in their memory. The names of our deceased will be displayed on scrolls during November in the church.

You may bring a framed picture of your loved one - no larger than 8" x 10" - (with your name on the back) to be displayed on the altar during the Memorial Mass. Please remember to pick up the picture before you leave to go to the reception after mass.

If you have a loved one who died this past year (after November of 2017) and their Memorial celebration was not held at Sacred Heart, you may submit his or her name to be included in our Memorial Mass and inscribed on our scroll. You must submit the name by October 15th so that it can be included in our Memorial celebration. Please call Michele Kipp at (805) 659-2416.

Misa memorial de la iglesia Sagrado Corazón

Durante el mes de noviembre, es costumbre honrar a nuestros familiares y amigos fallecidos. El domingo 28 de octubre de 2018 en la Misa de las 10:30, honraremos a nuestros seres queridos que han muerto durante el año (después de noviembre de 2017) de una manera especial. Sus nombres serán leídos en voz alta y un miembro de la familia recibirá una vela en su memoria. Los nombres de nuestros difuntos se mostrarán en pergaminos durante noviembre en la iglesia.

Puede traer una foto enmarcada de su ser querido, no más grande que 8 "x 10" (con su nombre en la parte posterior) para que se muestre en el altar durante la misa conmemorativa. Recuerde recoger la imagen antes de irse a ir a la recepción después de la misa.
