CRITERIOS DE EVALUACIÓN



Al término de la unidad, los alumnos y alumnas podrán contar la leyenda de San Jorge, y establecer las diferencias y similitudes entre la tradición inglesa y la española. También podrán describir sus preferencias en cuanto a los diferentes géneros literarios.

BREVE DESCRIPCIÓN DE LA UNIDAD:La unidad The rose and the dragon se centra en el día de San Jorge, patrón de Inglaterra. Los alumnos y alumnas podrán leer y escuchar textos sobre la celebración de San Jorge en Inglaterra el día 23 de abril, fecha en la que también se celebra el día mundial del libro. Estas dos celebraciones le dan a la unidad un componente altamente sociocultural ya que los alumn@s aprenderán sobre tradiciones populares en Inglaterra y las podrán comparar con sus propias tradiciones. Además, los alumnos se familiarizarán con vocabulario relacionado con la leyenda de San Jorge y con palabras referentes a los géneros literarios en inglés. La unidad se completa con ejercicios de gramática, expresión oral y expresión escrita.

ESTRUCTURA DE LA UNIDAD

CAPÍTULO 1: St George’s Day

Actividad 1: Vocabulary. Presentación de vocabulario relacionado con el día de San Jorge y la leyenda de San Jorge. Los alumnos hacen clic sobre las palabras, escuchan su pronunciación en inglés y las asocian con las imágenes que las acompañan. La siguiente imagen aparece justo después de escuchar la pronunciación de cada palabra. Los alumnos, una vez hayan escuchado todas las palabras, pueden volver hacia atrás con la flecha marrón izquierda y hacer clic sobre las imágenes para volver a escuchar las palabras en inglés.

Actividad 2: Vocabulary. En este ejercicio, los alumnos arrastran las palabras debajo de las imágenes correspondientes. Si el alumno acierta, podrá escuchar la palabra en inglés. Si no, la palabra rebotará y volverá al lugar original.

Actividad 3: Reading. Actividad de lectura sobre el texto “Celebrating St George’s Day”. Los alumnos pueden utilizar las flechas marrones para avanzar y retroceder por las tres pantallas en las que el texto está dividido. Pueden mover el ratón sobre las palabras subrayadas para conocer su significado.

Actividad 4: Gap filling. Los alumnos completan diferentes oraciones con palabras clave del texto que han leído en la pantalla anterior. Pueden releer el texto pulsando sobre la palabra Text.

Actividad 5: Where is it? Los alumnos deben pulsar sobre los nombres de los países y ciudades para escuchar su pronunciación en inglés. Además, deben arrastrar y soltar las palabras en el lugar correspondiente del mapa. Si pulsan sobre el icono Resources, averiguarán qué tienen en común todos estos lugares. Hay dos pantallas en esta actividad.



CAPÍTULO 2: St George and the Dragon

Actividad 1: Reading & Listening. Actividad de lectura y escucha sobre la leyenda de San Jorge. Los alumnos leen la leyenda y pulsan sobre Play para poder escucharla.

Actividad 2: Grammar. Esta actividad consiste en escribir o en arrastrar y soltar en el lugar correspondiente los verbos en pasado que aparecen en la parte superior de la pantalla con el fin de completar oraciones referentes a la leyenda de San Jorge.

Actividad 3: Grammar. Los alumnos ordenan los elementos para construir preguntas correctas en pasado. Se aconseja que localicen la primera palabra de cada oración interrogativa y la arrastren al frente para que así les resulte más fácil continuar con la sucesión del resto de las palabras.

CAPÍTULO 3: Who was the authentic St George?

Actividad 1: Reading and Listening

Lectura y escucha del texto: “Who was the authentic St George?”Los alumnos completarán el texto con los verbos regulares que aparecen en la pantalla.

Actividad 3: Where’s the mistake?

Sobre el texto de este capítulo, los alumnos deben identificar un error en cada una de las oraciones y escribir la palabra correcta en el espacio editable. Para volver a escuchar el texto, pueden pulsar sobre Play y, sobre Check, para comprobar y recibir información sobre la palabra que falta.

CAPÍTULO 4: On books and roses

Actividad 1: Types of books

Presentación de diferentes géneros literarios en inglés. Los alumnos pulsan sobre cada uno de los géneros y leen la definición correspondiente.

Actividad 2: What is it about?

En este ejercicio, los alumnos eligen el género literario correcto para cada uno de los libros. Haciendo clic sobre la flecha marrón derecha, podrán ver el resto de los títulos.

Actividad 3: Listening



Los alumnos hacen clic sobre Play y escuchan un diálogo entre dos amigos que hablan sobre libros. Se trata de elegir la respuesta correcta de entre dos opciones. Se comprueba con Check y se repite la actividad pulsando el botón Clear. En el botón Resources, pueden leer la transcripción del diálogo.

CAPÍTULO 5: World Book Day

Actividad 1: Let’s match!

Ejercicio que consiste en emparejar las imágenes con las preguntas. Los alumnos deben arrastrar y soltar cada imagen al lado de la pregunta correspondiente. Se comprueba con Check y se repite la actividad pulsando el botón Clear.

Actividad 2: Listening

Los alumnos pulsan sobre Play y escuchan información sobre el día mundial del libro. Deben arrastrar las palabras y ubicarlas en la categoría correspondiente. Pueden leer la transcripción haciendo clic en el botón Resources.

Actividad 3: Speaking

Actividad en la que se practica la expresión oral. Los alumnos pulsan sobre el botón Play que está debajo de cada pregunta. Después, hacen clic sobre Record y graban su respuesta. La flecha marrón derecha les llevará a la siguiente pregunta. Después de responder a las cinco preguntas, pueden pulsar sobre Play dialogue para escuchar el diálogo completo.

Actividad 4: Writing

Ejercicio de expresión escrita. Los alumnos escriben una redacción breve sobre la figura de San Jorge y la celebración del día de este santo siguiendo una pautas que encontrarán en el botón Resources. Haciendo clic sobre Send, podrán enviar la redacción a su profesor.



CÓMO USAR LA UNIDAD

La unidad está dividida en cinco capítulos por los cuales el alumno puede navegar utilizando los botones de avance y retroceso (flechas Back y Next) o bien mediante la barra de navegación que se encuentra en la parte inferior de cada pantalla y que da acceso a los diferentes capítulos. En la portada principal, se muestra la siguiente información:

Además, desde la portada, los alumnos pueden acceder al índice de contenidos pulsando sobre el botón Start o sobre la flecha Next. The story of St George killing the dragon is just a legend, but St George really [existed]. He was born in Cappadocia (now Eastern Turkey) in the year 270 A.D. He was a brave Roman soldier who [served] under a pagan Emperor but never forgot his Christian faith.

When the pagan Emperor Diocletian [started] persecuting Christians, St. George [tried] to stop him. Then, the Emperor [tried] to make St. George deny his faith in Christ and [tortured] him. St George [showed] incredible courage and faith and was finally killed in Palestine on 23rd April, 303.

A faraway country was attacked by a terrible dragon. The people of that country offered him a young princess as a present to stop him.

When St. George heard about this, he took his sword and shield and rode to that country on his fast horse.

St. George had a big fight with the dragon, and he finally killed him with his sword.

At last, the princess was safe, and St. George took her to her parents.

Chapter five

April 23rd is not only famous because of the legend of St. George, but also because it is the anniversary of the death of two great writers: Cervantes and Shakespeare. As you know, Cervantes wrote the novel Don Quixote, about an old knight who imagines fantastic adventures with his servant Sancho Panza. The English writer Shakespeare is also the best writer in English of all times. He wrote comedies, tragedies and also poetry. Examples of his works are: the tragedy Romeo & Juliet, a romantic story, and lots of poems about love. These extraordinary writers have become important symbols in their respective countries. One way of celebrating the work of these writers was to name this date as World Book Day so, on 23rd April, people usually buy books in the streets and give them to their friends or relatives. In Catalonia, it is also a tradition to exchange a book and a rose on this day.

7 Read the text about Saint Nicholas Day.In Germany, a lot of people celebrate the day of St Nicholas on December 6th. Every year, children wait for Saint Nicholas’ visit on December 5th. Before they go to bed, they clean their shoes and leave them in front of their bedroom doors. The next morning, they find them filled with sweets and small presents.

But, who was the authentic St Nicholas? St Nicholas was a holy bishop who lived in a town in Minor Asia during the fourth century A.D. There are a lot of legends about the life of this man who helped people with problems. One of the legends is the story of the three golden spheres. In this legend, St Nicholas helped a family with three daughters. They were very poor and their father tried to sell his daughters to a man to get some money. Nicholas heard of this and decided to help them. He took three bags filled with gold and threw them through a window into their living-room.

Saint George is the patron saint of England. Saint George's Day is England's national day. In pictures, Saint George is usually sitting on a horse, killing a dragon.

Saint George's Day is celebrated in spring, on April 23rd. English people do not have a national holiday on this day, but many towns and cities in England have multicultural festivals and parades on Saint George's Day.
