Polyforum Siqueiros y la Iniciativa curatorial MARSO, tienen el honor

de presentar la primera muestra individual en México del artista

conceptual Marcel Meury, uno de los jóvenes creadores más

destacados de Suiza. La exhibición, extrañamente titulada “Si quieres

ver mi pierna tienes que venir hoy. El día en que mi pierna se fue”

comprende una selección de fotografías, piezas de video arte, dibujos,

y sobre todo instalaciones de sitio específico que el artista desarrolló a

partir una residencia corta en la Ciudad de México.

Marcel Meury se interesa por el proceso creativo como parte

fundamental de la obra. Al enfocarse en la idea del proceso más que en

la del producto terminado, Marcel hace reflexionar al espectador sobre

las maneras en que la obra de arte se alimenta -a la vez que repercute-

en el entorno en que se desarrolla.

La obra de Marcel Meury surge de una reflexión profunda acerca de la

relación entre el arte y la cotidianeidad y de la delgada línea que puede

existir entre la disquisición filosófica y el absurdo. La muestra pone

especial énfasis en tres aspectos fundamentales que Meury “rescató” de

su estancia en la Ciudad de México: la espera, la ocupación aleatoria

del espacio público y las particulares dinámicas sociales de esta ciudad.

En la muestra están presentes también las ideas de “origen” y de

“raíces” que igualmente persisten en el complejo entorno de la Ciudad

de México y han sido tema constante en el trabajo de Meury.

Cabe destacar que la exhibición pone especial atención en la historia y

peculiar arquitectura de Polyforum Siqueiros. Marcel entiende al

Polyforum como una plataforma conceptual no constreñida al espacio

físico, permitiendo que sus intervenciones se extiendan más allá de los

muros de la galería.

Polyforum Siqueiros and the curatorial initiative MARSO, proudly present

the first solo exhibition in Mexico of the conceptual artist Marcel Meury, a

young artist from Switzerland. The exhibition titled "If you want to see the

leg,  you have to come today. The day my leg went away "presents a

selection of photographs and video art pieces, in a site-specific

installation that the artist developed during a short residence in Mexico

City.

Marcel Meury is interested in the process as a fundamental part of his

artistic work. By focusing on the idea of the process rather than the

finished product, Meury invites the viewer to reflect on the many ways in

which the artwork intakes at the same time that it impacts the

environment in which it operates.

Meury's work springs from a profound reflection on the relationship

between art and everyday life, and from the thin line that can exist

between a philosophical discourse and the absurd. The exhibition places

special emphasis on three fundamental aspects which stayed with Meury

after his first visit to Mexico City: the waiting, the random occupation of

public space and the particular social dynamics of this city.

The ideas of "origin" and "roots" are also present in the exhibition,

themes that persist in the complex environment of Mexico City and have

been a constant subject in the artist’s work.

The show pays particular attention to the history and unique architecture

of Polyforum Siqueiros. Marcel understands the Polyforum as a

conceptual platform, without constrain to the physical space, allowing his

interventions to extend beyond the walls of the gallery.
