INTRODUCCIÓNPresentaremos en las siguientes páginas la vida amorosa de un hombre como lo fue Edgar Allan Poe, que a lo largo de su vida mantuvo uno tras otro, fracasos amorosos que desestabilizaron notablemente su salud física y mental, entre sus musas se pueden destacar su prima Virginia Eliza Clemm que aun estando muy joven se caso con él mientras lo amo e idolatró.
Su madre Elizabeth Arnold Poe, gran actriz anglo-estadunidense, la cual se desempeño con éxito en las tablas pero la tuberculosis acabo con su vida; por otro lado está la poetisa y ensayista Sarah Helen Withman la cual impidió un intento de suicidio por parte del escritor y por ultimo tenemos ha Frances Sargent Osgood una famosa literata y ha Sara Elmira Royster gran amiga y primer amor de Edgar Allan Poe.

VIRGINIA ELIZA CLEMMNació el 22 de agosto en 1822 y murió de tuberculosis el 30 de enero de 1847.Fue la esposa del escritor Edgar Allan Poe. Ambos eran primos y se casaron cuando Edgar tenía 26 años y Virginia 13, el 22 de septiembre de 1835.
Conoció a su futuro esposo en el mes de agosto en 1829. En 1833 fue “la celestina” entre Edgar y una vecina Mary Devereaux.Neilson Poe (cuñado de la media hermana de Virginia) descubrió que Poe quería casarse con su prima; él quiso educarla para evitar el matrimonio, debido a su temprana edad. Poe interpretó esto como un intento de romper todo tipo de relación con Virginia, por parte de Neilson. Poe le suplicó a María (madre de Virginia) que permitieran que Virginia fuera quien decidiera lo que quería hacer.

Virginia amó e idolatró a Poe con gran fervor. El día de San Valentín, ella le dedicó un poema en el año de 1846, éste se refería a los escándalos creados por Elizabeth F.
Ellet donde vincula a Poe con la pareja Osgood, pues él estaba coqueteando con Frances Sargent Osgood, una poetisa casada. Virginia conocía sobre esta amistad y hasta inclusive animaba a Edgar a que seguir con esta relación pues Edgar estaba dejando el alcoholismo. Este escándalo no se detuvo hasta que Sarah volvió con su esposo, y éste obligara a Elizabeth a retractarse de sus comentarios. Ella inculpó a Edgar Poe de todo lo sucedido.
En la muerte de Virginia, ella le dijo a Poe que Ellet había sido su asesina y le pidió a su madre que cuidara de su esposo. Dejó un gran vacío y una fuerte depresión a Poe. La muerte de Virginia tuvo una gran repercusión en la obra de Poe. Por eso se le considera una de sus musas. Se dice que fue la musa de Ulalume, El cuervo y Annabel Lee.

Actriz anglo-estadounidense madre de Poe. Nació en Londres pero a los 8 años viajó con su madre hacia USA, pues su padre murió el año de su nacimiento.A los 9 años debutó en el teatro interpretando a Biddy Blair en Miss de David Garrick.
Años más tarde, su madre se casó con Charles Tubbs. La familia se unió a un manager para formar la compañía teatral Charleston Comedians.
En uno de los viajes hacia Carolina del Norte, su madre murió. Eliza siguió con la compañía, viajando de ciudad en ciudad.
A sus 15 año se casó con Charles Hopkins, dejándola viuda a los tres años.Luego, David Poe Jr la vio actuar y decidió unirse a la compañía abandonando los planes de su familia para que estudiara leyes.

6 meses después de la muerte de Hopkins se casaron, a los 9 meses de la boda, tuvieron a William Henry Leonard, y 2 años más tarde, nació Edgar Allan Poe, ambos nacieron en Boston.
En sus actuaciones, Eliza era alabada mientras que su esposo David criticado, una vez mudados a NY 6 semanas después,
Se dice que ellos fueron quienes inspiraron a Edgar Allan Poe en el título de su relato “La caída de la Casa Usher”.
Se dice que ella fue una de las musas de Poe con respecto al tema de la muerte de una hermosa mujer, debido a la gran cantidad de pérdidas de mujeres que Poe tuvo en su vida.

Se casó con un empresario, Alexander Shelton, a los 17 años, pensando que Poe se había olvidado de ella.
Poe todavía la recordaba pues le enviaba cartas, pero el papá de ella las interceptaba y las rompía antes de que ella las viera.
Cuando su esposo murió, se reunió con Poe. (Para este entonces, Virginia ya había muerto).
Fue una amiga y el primer amor de Poe. Comenzó a relacionarse con Poe a los 15 años en 1825, pero ésta terminó pues el padre de ella interfirió la relación.
Inspiró a Poe en algunos de sus poemas, pues hacen referencia a ella.
Inclusive, se ha llegado a pensar como candidata posible para ser la musa del poema Annabel Lee.
Sarah y Poe eran vecinos. Se reunían para cantar y dibujar. La relación entre ellos era evidente, tanto que el hermano de Poe.

William Henry, escribió un poema llamado “El Pirata”, donde representa la relación entre Sarah y Poe, En el poema, Poe es reflejado con el personaje de Leonard, el personaje había perdido su padres en la historia, al igual que Poe y William Henry habían perdido los suyos, y Rosalie, era el personaje que representaba a Sarah.
Empezaron a hablar de matrimonio cuando Poe empezó a estudiar en la Universidad de Virginia, pero el papá de Sarah intervino, supuestamente por la edad de ella, pero se cree que la verdadera razón era por la situación económica inestable de Poe.
Al casarse con Shelton, ganó prestigio social, riquezas y dinero. Tuvo 5 hijos, de los cuales 3 murieron siendo niños.
En los poemas: “Tamerlane” y “To”, hace referencia a Sarah. En el primero, narra la historia de alguien que conquista el mundo para encontrar a su amada casada. En el segundo, hace referencia al oro que poseía Shelton.

INTRODUCCIÓNPresentaremos en las siguientes páginas el desarrollo literario de las mujeres las Edgar Allan Poe, por medio de la unión de algunos de sus escritos:
El amor único y utópico Annabel Lee se recuesta cada noche al lado de la tumba del sonoro mar, Berenice con alma vivaz, alegre y de extraordinaria hermosura es atacada por la epilepsia que no solo la afecto a ella sino también la personalidad de su esposo.
Por otro lado un hombre herido descubre la trágica muerte de una bella mujer retratada en una pintura ocasionada por el descuido del hombre que la pintaba, Legeia mujer de cabello negro y ojos oscuros, muere pero con los esfuerzos de su esposo logra revivir.
Lastimosamente estos fueron en vano, y por ultimo Morella, mujer de gran intelecto y curiosa por las artes místicas, a la cual su marido nunca amo, muriendo en cuerpo y renaciendo en alma en el cuerpo de su hija.

Su esposo, aterrado ante sus historias, en silencio, deseaba la muerte de aquella. Embarazada, Morella muere al dar a luz, pero antes de partir ella le dice que a pesar de que su esposo no la amó en vida, una vez muriera, la amaría con un amor perfecto y puro.
Su alma pasa a al cuerpo de su hija. Mientras la niña crecía, cada vez se parecía más y más a su madre. La niña no tenía nombre, pues su padre no sabía cuál ponerle. Antes de cumplir 10 años, iba a ser bautizada. Cuando el cura le pregunta qué nombre ponerle, su padre gritó: “¡Morella!”. Ella responde: “Estoy aquí” y en ese instante, su cuerpo cae sobre el piso, mientras muere.
Cuando iba a ser enterrada en el mismo sepulcro que su madre, el hombre encuentra que los huesos de su esposa ya no estaba.

Egaeus un hombre de increíble intelecto, siempre absorbido por sus estudios, un hombre decente y educado, se iba a casar con su prima Berenice, un ser opuesto a él: un alma vivaz, alegre, enérgica que le gustaba correr por el campo, era una joven hermosa, rubia, de ojos azules y de una dentadura blanca como el mármol.
Egaeus fue parido en una biblioteca, en el mismo instante en el que su madre moría al darle a luz: antes de casarse, Berenice es atacada por la epilepsia.

Epilepsia que no sólo afectó su cuerpo y la hermosura característica de ella, sino también la personalidad de su futuro esposo.
Egaeus afectado, empezó a distraerse y volverse un ser absorto en las cosas simples de la vida. Una noche soñó con la boca de labios delgados de Berenice, la vio sonriente mostrando su blanca y brillante dentadura. Desde entonces se obsesionó con esos 32 dientes blancos.
Luego, Berenice murió dejando una gran obsesión por parte Egaeus hacia sus dientes y el vacío que había dejado su madre desde hacía varios años.
Cierta noche, un criado fue a informarle a Egaeus que la tumba de Berenice había sido profanada, pero al hacerlo, Egaus se descubrió manchado de sangre, con herramientas de dentista y una cajita con 32 dientes.

Arte - AmorUn hombre herido con su criado, se refugiaron una noche en un castillo abandonado, donde se instalaron en una torre.
Llevaron un candelabro para iluminar el lugar.
Encontraron una gran habitación amoblada, con características antiguas y rústicas.

Buscó rápidamente la historia de este cuadro, y descubrió que era el cuadro de una mujer muy bella y hermosa que era esposa de un pintor. El pintor decidió retratarla, trabajando durante varios días y noches para cumplir con su objetivo.
Mientras los días pasaban, las personas que veían su trabajo, lo halagaban pero su esposa moría al pasar los días por el desgaste, mas el pintor no lo notaba pues estaba ensimismado en su labor: cuando finalmente terminó el trabajo, descubrió que su esposa había acabado de morir.

VIRGINIA ELIZA CLEMMShe was born in the august 22th of 1822 and died of tuberculosis on January 30, 1847. She was the wife of writer Edgar Allan Poe. She was Edgar’s cousin, she married him when Edgar was 26 years old and Virginia 13 on September 22, 1835.
She met her future husband in August 1829. In 1833 she was the “matchmaker” between Edgar and a neighbor Mary Devereaux. Neilson Poe (brother in law of Virginia´s stepsister) found that Poe wanted to marry Virginia; he wanted to educate her to avoid the marriage, because of her young age. Poe took this as an attempt to break all relations with Virginia. Poe begged Mary (Virginia’s mother) that would let Virginia make a decision about the marriage.

Virginia loved and idolized Poe with great fervor. On Valentine’s Day of 1846, she wrote a poem in which she made reference to the scandals created by Elizabeth F.
Ellet that involves Poe with the Osgood marriage because Poe was flirting with Frances Sargent Osgood, a married poet. Virginia knew about this relationship and even encouraged Edgar to keep going with this relationship because Poe was leaving behind his issues with the alcoholism.
This scandal didn´t stop until Sarah came back with her husband, who was the one that forced Elizabeth to retract her comments. She blamed everything that happened to Poe.
In Virginia’s death, she told Poe that Ellet had been her killer and asked his mother to care for her husband. She left a great void and a strong depression in Poe. Virginia’s death had the most impact on Poe´s work, that’s why she is considered one of his muses, for example in the poems of Ulalume, The Raven and Annabel Lee.

She was Poe’s Anglo-American mother. She was an actress. She was born in London but at age of 8, she traveled with her mother to USA, because of her father’s death. At 9, she debuted in the theater performing Biddy Blair in Her Miss Teen of David Garrick.
Years later, her mother married Charles Tubbs. The family joined a manager to form the Charleston Comedians Theatre Company.
In one of the trips to North Carolina, her mother died. Eliza continued with the company, traveling from city to city.
At 15 years old she married Charles Hopkins, leaving her a widow three years later. Then, David Poe Jr saw her to act and decided to join the company leaving the plans of his family in order that he was studying laws.

his family, dying 2 years later. During his absence, Eliza gave birth to a third daughter: Rosalie.
Eliza Arnold Poe continued performing and touring to support their children.
He died at age of 24 after suffering of tuberculosis. Luke Usher and his wife cared for the children of Eliza during her illness.
They married six months later after Hopkins death. After nine months of the wedding, William Leonard was born, and 2years later, Edgar Allan Poe was born. They were born in Boston.
In her performances, Eliza was praised while her husband David was criticized. They moved to New York, but sex weeks later, Davidleft
It is said that they were the ones who inspired Edgar Allan Poe in the title of his story “The Fall of the Usher House.”
It is said that she was one of Edgar Allan Poe muses on the subject of the death of a beautiful woman, because of the large amount of losses that Edgar Allan Poe had in his life.

She married a businessman, Alexander Shelton, age 17, thinking that Poe had forgotten her.
Poe still remembered her so he sent letters to her, but her father intercepted and torn this letters before she saw them.
When her husband died, she met again with Poe. (By this time, Virginia had already died).
She was a friend and Poe´s first love. She started a relationship with Poe at the age of 15, but it ended because her father had interfered with the relationship.
She inspired Poe in some of his poems; some of them make reference to her.
Even, it has been thought of her as a possible candidate to be the muse of the poem Annabel Lee.
Sarah and Poe were neighbors. They gathered to sing and draw. The relationship between them was too obvious that Poe’s brother,

William Henry, wrote a poem called “The Pirate”, which represents the relationship between them. In the poem, Poe is reflected in the character of Leonard, this character had lost his parents in the story, such as Poe and William Henry had lost their parents; and Rosalie, was the character who represented Sarah.
They began talking about marriage when Poe began studying at the University of Virginia, but Sarah’s father intervened, allegedly for her age, but it is believed that the real reason was because of the unstable economic situation of Poe.
On having married Shelton she gained social prestige, wealth and money. They had five children, of whom three died when they were children.
In the poems “Tamerlane” and “To” refers to Sarah. In the first one, it tells the story of someone who conquers the world to find his beloved woman married. In the second, refers to the gold that was owned by Shelton.

The girl did not have name, since his father did not know which to put. Before expiring 10 years, it was going to be baptized. When the priest asks him what name to put him, his father shouted: “ Morella! “. She answers: “ I Am here “ and in this instant, his body falls down on the floor, while he dies.
When it was going to be buried in the same sepulcher that his mother, the man thinks that the bones of his wife already it was not.
