NORTH AMERICAN FREE TRADE
AGREEMENT
NAFTA is an agreement signed by the governments
of Canada, Mexico, and the United States, creating a
trilateral trade bloc in North America.
The agreement came into force on January 1, 1994.
NAFTA has two supplements, the North American Agreement
on Environmental Cooperation (NAAEC) and the North
American Agreement on Labor Cooperation (NAALC).
Administrative center are at Mexico City, Ottawa,
and Washington D.C.

ASIAN NATIONS
ASEAN is a geo-political and economic organization of 10countries located in Southeast Asia, which was formed on 8August 1967 by Indonesia, Malaysia,
the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Headquarters in Jakarta, Indonesia.
Since then, membership has expanded to includeBrunei, Burma (Myanmar), Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.
Its aims at acceleration of economic growth, social
progress, cultural development among its members, theprotection of the peace and stability of the region, and toprovide opportunities for member countries to discussdifferences peacefully.

FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVES
The ASEAN way can be traced back to the signing of
the Treaty of Amity and Cooperation in Southeast Asia :
mutual respect for the independence, sovereignty, equality,
territorial integrity, and national identity of all nations; the right of every State to lead its national existence free
from external interference, subversion or coercion;
non-interference in the internal affairs of one another;
settlement of differences or disputes by peaceful manner;
renunciation of the threat or use of force; and
effective cooperation among themselves

Southeast Asian countries with a view tointegrate the ASEAN economies into a single
production base and create a regional market
of 500 million people.

CARICOMis an organisation of 15 Caribbeannations and dependencies.
Established on 1 August 1973 with itsheadquarters at Georgetown Guyana).
Members: Anguilla, Antigua and Barbados,Bahamas, Belize, Dominica, Grenada, Guyana,
Haiti, Jamaica, Montserrat, Saint Kitts-Nevis,Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent and the Grenadines,Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago.

OBJECTIVE
Main purposes are
To promote economic integration and cooperation among itsmembers,
To ensure that the benefits of integration are equitablyshared, and
To coordinate foreign policy.
Its major activities involve
Coordinating economic policies and development planning;
Devising and instituting special projects for the less-
developed countries within its jurisdiction; Operating as a regional single market for many of its members
(Caricom Single Market); and
Handling regional trade disputes.

MERCOSUR
Mercosur orMercosul is an economic andpolitical agreement between Argentina, Brazil,Paraguay and Uruguay.
Headquarters at Montevideo. Founded in 1991 , which was later amended and
updated by the 1994 Treaty of Ouro Preto.
Mercosur and the Andean Community of
Nations are customs unions that are componentsof a continuing process of SouthAmerican integration connected to the Union ofSouth American Nations.

OBJECTIVES
Its purpose is to promote free trade and the fluid movement of goods, people, andcurrency.
Fixing of a common external tariff (CET) and adopting of a common tradepolicy with regard to non-member states
Coordination of macroeconomic and sectorial policies of member states in orderto ensure free competition .
The commitment by the member states to make the necessary adjustments totheir laws in pertinent areas to allow for the strengthening of the integrationprocess .
Mercosur initially targeted free-trade zones, then customs unification, and finallya common market.
The free movement of manpower and capital across the member nations, anddepends the grating of equal rights and duties to all member countries.
Trade liberalization among Member nations. After the common market is formed, member nations are to automatically extend
to the other members any advantage, favour, entitlement, immunity or privilegegranted to a product originating from or intended for countries that are not partyto the Latin American Integration Association (ALADI).

SOUTH ASIAN ASSOCIATION FOR
REGIONAL COOPERATION
SAARC is an organization of SouthAsian nations, founded in December 1985 anddedicated to economic, technological, social,
and cultural development emphasizingcollective self-reliance.
Headquarters at Kathmandu, Nepal.
Members: Bangladesh, Bhutan, India,the Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and SriLanka. Afghanistan joined in April 2007.

To promote the welfare of the people of South Asia and to improve theirquality of life;
To accelerate economic growth, social progress and cultural developmentin the region and to provide all individuals the opportunity to live indignity and to realize their full potential;
