“Come after me, and I will make you

fishers of men.” (Matthew 4: 19)

Jesus is beginning his public ministry and proclaiming that we have to “Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at Hand (Mt 4: 17).” Mean-ing that we have to change our lives to receive it and to live in a new way. This passage from Matthew is used to promote vocation to the Priesthood and Reli-gious Life and vocations are important to continue the mission of Jesus in the Church and to live out our discipleship in Him. But this passage has a deeper meaning for our life of faith. All of us are called to be “fisher of men” like Jesus told Peter and the first disciples. We are all disciples of Jesus and are called to participate in His missionary work of proclaiming the “kingdom of heaven” to all. It is not only for a select few, such as priest, catechist or people of strong faith, but all who share in the life of Jesus. The definition of a disciple is “a student or fol-lower of a particular teacher” (Catholic Encyclope-dia). A disciple shares in a privilege knowledge that comes from the teacher to help increase ones faith. Being a disciple of Jesus means that we choose to share in the knowledge of His ministry and are called to teach that to others, to be “fishers of men.” Our faith in Jesus does not end at receiving the sacra-ments of Initiation only, but we are meant to teach and be a prophetic voice for Jesus in the world and help others in their personal relationship with Him whether it be at home, work, school and here at St. Pius. Jesus in the gospel today called His first disci-ples to follow him: Peter, Andrew, James and John to be “fishers of men,” to bring His message into the world. “Síganme y los hare pescadores de hombres” (Mateo 4:19)

Jesús está empezando su ministerio publi-co y proclamando que tenemos que

“arrepentirnos porque el reino de los cielos está cer-ca” (Mt 4:17). Lo que significa que tenemos que ha-cer un cambio en nuestras vidas para recibirlo de una nueva manera. Este pasaje de Mateo se utiliza para promover las vocaciones al Sacerdocio y a la Vida Religiosa pero también son importantes para conti-nuar la misión de Jesús en la Iglesia y vivir nuestro discipulado en El. Pero este pasaje tiene un significa-do más profundo para nuestra vida de fe.

Todos nosotros estamos llamados a ser “pescadores de hombres” como Jesús le dijo a Pedro y a los primeros discípulos. Todos somos discípulos de Jesús y estamos llamados a participar en su misión de proclamar el “Reino de los cielos” a todos. Esto no es solo para unos pocos seleccionados, como sa-cerdotes, catequistas o personas de mucha fe, sino para todos aquellos que comparten en la vida de Je-sús.

La definición de discípulo es: “estudiante o se-guidor de un maestro en particular” (Enciclopedia Católica). Un discípulo comparte el conocimiento que viene del maestro para incrementar la fe de otros. Ser un discípulo de Jesús significa que escogimos compartir el conocimiento de su ministerio y somos llamados a enseñárselo a otros, ser “pescadores de hombres”. Nuestra fe en Jesús no termina al recibir nuestros sacramentos de iniciación, estamos destina-dos a enseñar y ser la voz profética de Jesús en el mundo y ayudar a otros en su relación personal con El así sea en el trabajo, en la casa, en la escuela o aquí en San Pío.

En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús llama a sus pri-meros discípulos a seguirlo: Pedro, Andrés, Santiago y Juan a “ser pescadores de hombres”, a traer su mensaje al mundo. ¿Cómo podemos seguís sus hue-llas hoy y en cada día de nuestras vidas?

A PARTIR DE ESTE AÑO NO TENDREMOS SEGUNDO COLECCIONES

La diócesis pide que cada parroquia tiene aprox. 28 segundo colecciones durante el año. No tendremos se-gundo colecciones, en lugar estaremos enviando un porcentaje de la colección de domingo a la diócesis, cuando se nos pide una segunda colección. Esperamos que este año las colectas irá en aumento. Tenemos muchas necesidades en la parroquia y nuestra esperan-za es que todos da $5.00 o más, así que este año nos puede elevar la recaudación de $15.000 por semana para cubrir el costo de nuestras necesidades.

The Diocese requests that each parish have approx.. 28 second collections during the year. We will not have second collections, instead we will be sending a per-centage of the Sunday Collection to the Diocese when we are asked for a second collection. We hope that this year the Sunday Collections will increase. We have many needs in the parish and our hope is that everyone gives $5.00 or more so this year we can raise the col-lection to $15,000 per week to cover the cost of our needs. Our Bereavement, Healing After Loss Ministry will be starting an English support group on Tuesday, January 10th. This group gathering will meet each Tues-day in the Kateri Room from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. for a total of ten weeks. Please consider joining us for this Christian based support program. CLASES DE CIUDADNIA

Nuevas clases de ciudadanía comenzará el lunes, 23 de enero de 2017. Las clases de Inglés serán todos los lunes de 6:30-8:30pm en la escuela de San Pío X, aula 8A. Clases en Español también será el lunes a partir de las 6:30-8:30PM en el aula 8B. Estas clases será de 12 semanas y se preparan a los estudiantes para la entrevista de ciudadanía. Cada estudiante debe llevar 100 tarjetas de notas de 3x5 y un cuaderno a clase. Al final del curso, los estudiantes tendrán su propia guía de estudio para la entrevista.
