Antiguamente Iglesia de Santo Tomé, es un edificio del siglo XII, aunque con ampliaciones posteriores. Fue erigida en 1170 por el rey Alfonso VIII de Castilla para la celebración de sus bodas con Leonor de Inglaterra. La parte más antigua que queda, construida en estilo románico, es la torre. La decoración de la fachada recuerda al románico de Poitiers.

Formerly Church of Santo Tomé, is a building of the twelfth century, but with later extensions. It was built in 1170 by King Alfonso VIII of Castile to celebrate his marriage to Eleanor of England. The oldest part of this church, built in the Romanesque style, is the tower. The decoration of the facade reminds the Romanesque style of Poitiers.

La fachada principal está dividida en dos órdenes de arcos ciegos superpuestos, que enmarcan la portada, y arcos geminados a ambos lados y encima, en el centro, un rosetón, dividido en ocho partes por columnitas con arcos decorados. El rosetón está enmarcado por cuatro círculos concéntricos con dovelas decoradas con figurillas. Bajo el rosetón, dos figuras sedentes de los reyes fundadores Alfonso VIII y Leonor.

The main facade is divided into two orders of overlapping blind arches, that frame the cover and twin arches on both sides, and on top, in the center, a rose window, divided into eight parts by columns with decorated arches. The rose window is framed by four concentric circles with segments decorated with small sculptures. Under the rose window two seated sculptures of the founding kings Alfonso VIII and Leonor.

La portada es el elemento más importante de la fachada, enmarcada en cuatro arquivoltas con dovelas ricamente decoradas con figuras labradas. En el centro un frontón con su pantócrator en una mandorla y la Trinidad Paternitas, esto es, el Padre tiene a Cristo sentado sobre él, en lugar de ser la Virgen. En la arquivolta inferior se pueden ver los veinticuatro ancianos del Apocalipsis. Todos están tocando algún instrumento musical. La segunda arquivolta escenifica la matanza de los Inocentes, y la tercera, acontecimientos como el Nacimiento de Jesús, la Anunciación, Adoración de los Magos, la Asunción, etc. La última, la Pasión y la Resurrección de Cristo. Artísticos capiteles, con escenas del Antiguo Testamento, descargan el peso de los arcos sobre las jambas .

The doorway is the most important element of the facade, framed in four archivolts richly decorated with carved figures. In the center, the Pantocrator in a mandorla , as the Paternitas Trinity, this is the Father, instead of the Virgin, who has Christ sitting on him. At the bottom you can see the twenty four elders of the Apocalypse. Everyone is playing a musical instrument. The second archivolt represents the massacre of the Innocents, and the third one, events like the Nativity, the Annunciation, Adoration of the Magi, the Assumption, etc. The last one, the Passion and Resurrection of Christ. Artistic capitals with scenes from the Old Testament, unload the weight of the arches on the jambs.

La bóveda de crucería y el ábside pentagonal de la nave central y las capillas de las naves laterales son renacentistas del siglo XVI. También el transepto es tardo renacentista.

The cross vault and the pentagonal apse of the central nave and chapels of the lateral naves are Renaissance of the sixteenth century. The transept is also late Renaissance.

Parte posterior con la torre y el ábside

Torre románica del templo primitivo. Fue construida en el siglo XII.Es de planta cuadrada, con tres niveles, con arcos geminados ciegos en la parte baja , sin contrafuertes y se encuentra en la fachada norte.

Romanesque tower of the primitive temple. It was built in the twelfth century. It is square shaped with three levels, with twin blind arches at the bottom, without buttresses and is located on the north side.
