Shooting in mexico State leaves 10 people dead

10 muertos en tiroteo en el Estado de México

TOLUCA – Cuando menos 10 personas resultaron muertas en un enfrentamiento entre agentes de la ley y presuntos integrantes de La Familia Michoacana y Los Caballeros Templarios en el sur del estado.

El enfrentamiento, en el que participaron agentes de la Policía Federal, el Ejército y policías estatales, se registró entre la 1:30 y 2 p.m. del 19 de marzo, cuando un comando armado recibió a balazos a los miembros de una Base de Operación Mixta (BOM), dependiente de la Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana de Valle de Bravo, luego de recibir un reporte de un tiroteo entre grupos criminales.

Al llegar al lugar los miembros de BOM fueron atacados a balazos por los criminales, registrándose un segundo enfrentamiento.

Los hechos sucedieron en la zona de Pinal de Marquesado, en el municipio de Otzoloapan, ubicado entre Valle de Bravo and Temascaltepec cerca de Zacazonapan.

En meses recientes se han dado reportes de extorsiones a empresarios y comercios en Zacazonapan, por parte de supuestos

miembros de la Familia Michoacana y los Caballeros Templarios, quienes se disputan el control de la zona.

Reportes preliminares indican que las 10 personas muertas pertenecían a ambos grupos criminales que atacaron al comando militar, que estaba formado por 80 elementos y 10 unidades.

Se informó que durante el enfrentamiento el personal militar fue agredido con una granada de fragmentación, pero no se reportaron agentes ni militares lesionados.

Después del enfrentamiento, un helicóptero del ejército sobrevoló la zona para intentar localizar a posibles prófugos.

Al conocerse el tiroteo, la seguridad en la zona sur del estado fue reforzada y se sellaron las entradas a los municipios de Valle de Bravo, Temascaltepec, Otzoloapan y Zacazonapan.

La Secretaría de Seguridad Ciudadana informó que en el lugar aseguraron siete armas de uso exclusivo del ejército, incluyendo dos fusiles AK-47 y dos fusiles AR-15; un lanzagranadas, una granada de fragmentación y 13 cargadores para fusiles de asalto, así como un número no determinado de cartuchos.

TOLUCA – At least 10 people were killed in a shootout between law enforcement officer and alleged members of the Familia Michoacana and Caballeros Templarios drug cartels. The shootout took place in the southern portion of the state.

The shooting took place between 1:30 and 2 p.m. March 19 when an armed commando group attacked a group of officers from the Mixed Operation Base (BOM) from the Citizenship Safety Office in Valle de Bravo. BOM is formed by members of the Federal Police, the Army and local police officers. BOM had received a report of a shooting between both criminal organizations.

When they arrived at the site of the original shooting, BOM members were attacked by the criminals and a second shooting ensued.

The shooting took place in Pinal de Marquesado, in the municipality of Otzoloapan, between Valle de Bravo and Temascaltepec and near Zacazonapan.

In recent months there have been reports of extortions to businessmen and businesses

in Zacazonapan, allegedly by members of the Familia Michoacana and Caballeros Templarios cartels, who are disputing the control of this area.

Preliminary reports indicate that the 10 people who died in the shootings were members of the criminal organizations that attacked the military group, formed by 80 officers and 10 units.

It was reported that during the shooting the armed forces were attacked with a grenade, but nobody was hurt.

The Citizenship Security Office informed that at the site of the shootings authorities recovered seven weapons restricted to Army use, including five AK-47 rifles and two AR-15 rifles; a grenade, a grenade launcher, 13 charges for assault rifles and an undetermined amount of ammunition.

CANCÚN – Una niña de 11 años fue arrestada por la policía Mexicana en un barrio popular de Cancún, cuando ella aparentemente estaba lista para entregar marihuana y crack a sus clientes.

Las autoridades de la Oficina Municipal de Seguridad Pública dijeron que una patrulla de vigilancia había interceptado a la niña poco después de la media noche del 20 de marzo, cuando manejaba una motocicleta de forma imprudente en una zona conocida como región 238.

La menor fue interrogada y como se puso nerviosa, los oficiales revisaron sus pertenencias y encontraron dos bolsas con

marihuana y crack. La niña les dijo que iba a venderlas.

LA niña confesó que un hombre, identificado como “Jonathan”, le daba las drogas que ella distribuía en pequeñas dosis en los vecindarios de Cancún.

CANCUN – An 11-year-old girl was arrested by Mexican police officers in a low-income neighborhood in Cancun, when she allegedly was ready to deliver marihuana and crack cocaine to her clients.

Authorities from the Municipal Office of Public Safety said that a squad car had intercepted the girl shortly after midnight March 20, when she was recklessly driving a motorcycle, in the area of town known as region 238.

When she was questioned, and seeing how she was nervous, agents checked her belongings and found two bags with

marijuana and crack. The girl told them she was going to sell them.

The girl confessed a man identified as “Jonathan” provided her with the drugs, that she then distributed in small doses throughout Cancun’s neighborhoods.

The girl was placed under the care of the Prosecutor’s Office Specialized in Crimes Against Health (FEADCS), which then has to notify the appropriate authorities that handle cases involving minors.

Criminal groups involved in drug trafficking sometimes use teenagers to distribute their merchandise and avoid any detection by authorities.

BLACK FOREST, COLORADO – El director ejecutivo del sistema de prisiones de Colorado fue abatido al abrir la puerta de su casa la noche del 19 de marzo.

BLACK FOREST, COLORADO – The executive director of the Colorado Prisons System was shot to death when he opened the door of his house the night of March 19.

Authorities said that El Paso County Sheriff’s deputies had arrived at Tome Clements’ home, located in Black Forest about 20 miles from Colorado Springs, and had found the 58-year-old man dead.

Lt. Jeff Kramer said the 911 call had been received at 8:37 p.m. and had been made by a relative who was at the home. Authorities said they don’t know if the relative was in the same room as Clements or in another part of the house when the incident occurred. Authorities also declined to identify the relative.

Kramer said a black boxy car, probably a 1990s Lincoln, had been seen running with no one in it on the same street as Clements’ home.

Investigators worked through the night to gather clues.

When asked about the motive for the crime, Kramer said authorities know that Clements’ position “opens a dynamic” in the investigation, meaning that someone related to the prisons could have had something to do with the murder.

“We’re sensitive to that,” Kramer said, noting that authorities are “remaining open-minded” about all the angles of the investigation.

Kramer said investigators “are not aware of any threats” that Clements might have received prior to his murder. Investigators are still unsure if the gunman left on foot, by car or both.

Clements was named head of the Colorado Prisons System in January of 2011. Before that he had worked for 31 years at the Missouri Department of Corrections. He is survived by his wife Lisa and two daughters.

El 1 de febrero el Servicio de Inmigración y Ciudadanía de los Estados Unidos (USCIS por sus siglas en inglés) comenzó a recolectar una nueva cuota para procesamiento de visa de inmigrante por 165 dólares. Esta cuota se cobra a los ciudadanos extranjeros que buscan la residencia en los Estados Unidos.

USCIS ha trabajado de forma conjunta con el Departamento de Estado (DOS) para implementar la cuota nueva, que permite a USCIS recuperar los costos de procesar las visas de inmigrante en los Estados Unidos después de que las personas que tienen visa de inmigrante reciben sus paquetes devisa del Consulado de los Estados Unidos en Ciudad Juárez. Esta cuota cubre tiempo del personal

para manejar los expedientes y mantener los paquetes de visa de inmigrante y para cubrir el costo de producir y entregar la tarjeta de residente permanente.

Para poder simplificar y centralizar el proceso de pago, los solicitantes pagarán la cuota de 165 dólares en internet, en el sitio de internet de USCIS después de que reciben su paquete de visa del Consulado de Estados Unidos en Ciudad Juárez y antes de salir hacia los Estados Unidos.

El Consulado estadounidense proporcionará a los solicitantes información específica sobre cómo someter el pago cuando asistan a su entrevista consular en Ciudad Juárez.

On Feb. 1, 2013 the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has begun collecting a new immigrant visa processing fee of $165 from foreign nationals seeking U.S. residency in the United States.

USCIS has worked closely with the Department of State (DOS) to implement the new fee, which allows USCIS to recover the costs of processing immigrant visas in the United States after immigrant visa holders receive their visa packages from the US

Consulate in Ciudad Juarez. This includes staff time to handle the file and maintain the immigrant visa packages and the cost of producing and delivering their permanent residency card.

In order to simplify and centralize the payment process, applicants will pay the $165 fee online, through the USCIS web site after they receive their visa package from the U.S. Consulate in Ciudad Juarez and before they depart for the United States.

The U.S. Consulate will provide applicants with specific information on how to submit

payment when they attend their consular interview in Ciudad Juarez.

The new fee is in addition to fees charged by the National Visa Center associated with an individual’s visa application.

Ladrón rompe vidrios de varios negocios en Aurora

AURORA – La policía de Aurora busca a un ladrón, sospechoso de ser el autor de varios robos en los que rompe los cristales de los negocios y roba lo que encuentra.

En todos los crímenes el sospechoso ha usado un ladrillo grande o una piedra para romper las puertas exteriores de cristal de los negocios. Después de entrar, intenta abrir o robar las cajas registradoras. Los crímenes han sido cometidos entre el 8 y el 17 de marzo.

La pérdida total, incluyendo daños, de todos los robos asciende a más de 26 mil 500 dólares.

Después de revisar las cámaras de vigilancia de varios negocios, los detectives creen que el sospechoso es un hombre de raza blanca, de entre 5 pies 5 pulgadas y 6 pies de estatura, y que pesa entre 170 y 200 libras.

AURORA – Aurora Police are looking for a burglar, who is believed to be behind a series of “smash and grab” burglaries in the city.

In all of the crimes, the offender uses a large brick or rock to smash glass exterior doors to the targeted businesses. After entering, he attempts to break open or steal the cash registers. The crimes have been committed between March 8 and March 17.

The total loss of these robberies,

including damages to property, is now over $26,500.

After reviewing surveillance footage from several businesses, detectives believe the suspect to be a white male, 5’5” to 6’0” tall, and weigh between 170 and 200 pounds.

While authorities don’t know his identity, they believe the man keeps his eyes on the media and social media. The last images from surveillance cameras show the suspect wearing a face mask, after police posted photos of him from the first burglaries where he is not

wearing one.The last victims of this burglar

are a liquor store in the 1600 block of North Randall Road at about 2:10 a.m. March 17; and three gas stations/convenience stores: one in the 1300 block of North Lake Street at about 1:30 a.m. March 17; another one in the 1100 block of East New York Street at about 2:35 a.m. March 16; and ne in the 300 block of East Galena Boulevard at about 1.15 a.m. March 15.

Police believe the same burglar hit an auto repair business in the

2400 block of West Sullivan Road at about 5 a.m. March 12; and was responsible for criminal damage to property at a bank located in the 300 block of West Galena Boulevard during the night of March 9 or early morning hours of March 10.

On March 9 he broke into three businesses: a hair salon in the 500 block of West Illinois Avenue at about 12:40 a.m.; a supermarket in the 300 block of North Farnsworth avenue at about 2:30 a.m.; and a gas station in the 1300 block of East New York at about 2:45 a.m.

Between 7 p.m. March 8 and 12:15 a.m. March 9, he also broke into a hair salon in the 200 block of West Benton Street.

The man also broke into a commercial building in the 1100 block of Jericho Road, at 7:15 p.m. on March 8; and an auto repair business in the 1300 block of West Galena at about 8:45 p.m. that same night.

Police is asking anyone with information to contact investigators at (630) 256-5500 or Aurora Area Crime Stoppers at (630) 892-1000.

AURORA – An 18-year-old Aurora woman now faces one count of attempted murder in connection with a shooting that took place in January.

Destiny Jones, of the 1200 block of Second Avenue, was charged with shooting a man and then trying to steal money from him during the incident.

Jones was originally charged with aggravated battery with a firearm and attempted armed robbery, but a grand jury indicted Jones on one count of attempted murder and attempted aggravated battery with a firearm.

Jones remains at the Kane County jail on $450,000 bail and her next hearing is March 28, when she will be arraigned on the charges.

AURORA – Un hombre de Aurora ha sido acusado de proporcionar la heroína que llevó a la sobredosis mortal de una mujer el año pasado.

AURORA – An Aurora man has been charged with providing heroine to a woman who died of a drug overdose last year.

A Kane County grand jury indicted John Chappell, 21, of one count of drug-induced homicide, in connection with the death in August of 2012 of Stephanie L. Wood.

Chappell is free on $100,000 bail after he turned himself over to authorities last week.

According to police Wood, 30, of Portland, Oregon, suffered a drug overdose in the room of a motel in the 2400 block of North Farnsworth Avenue. Police said Chappell and another Aurora man had taken Wood

to a local hospital, where she died a short time later.

Authorities believe Wood and Chappell are related.

A second man, Charles Q. Snyder, 25, of Marshall, Illinois, was charged with heroin possession shortly after Wood’s death, but the investigation continued and led to Chappell’s indictment.

Snyder, who has to go back to court on April 5, is free on a personal recognizance bond. Court records show he “cooperated with police prior to and subsequent to being arrested.”

Two other men, including the one that helped Chappell take Wood to the hospital, were released without charges. REDACCIÓN UNA VOZ

Philip J. Dillon, de 45 años, un hombre indigente de Elgin, ha sido arrestado por dos acusaciones de violación y ha sido acusado de asalto sexual y robo residencial, de acuerdo a las autoridades. Dillon conocía a ambas víctimas.

De acuerdo con las víctimas, una fue violada alrededor de las 11 p.m. el 3 de marzo en su hogar en la cuadra 100 al sur de State Street (Ruta 31).

Dillon fue acusado de llevarse un reproductor de DVDs de la casa de la mujer luego de violarla. El reproductor de DVDs fue encontrado en una tienda de segunda mano y las autoridades pudieron identificar a Dillon como el vendedor.

En este caso, Dillon ha sido acusado de un cargo de asalto sexual criminal agravado (felonía), un cargo de robo residencial en grado de felonía, un cargo de restricción ilegal y un cargo menor de robo.

El segundo incidente sucedió alrededor de las 7:25 p.m. del 17 de marzo, cuando una mujer fue amenazada con ser violada

en su casa, en la cuadra 1600 de Mark Avenue, pero pudo escapar. Dillon está acusado de golpear a la mujer en la cara y mostrarse desnudo ante ella antes de que ella pudiera escapar. Dillon se llevó una televisión de 32 pulgadas de la casa de la mujer.

According to Elgin Police Commander Glenn Theriault, these simultaneous investigations “did tax our resources.”

Police have made arrests in the rape and murder cases.

Philip J. Dillon, 45, an Elgin homeless man, was arrested after being accused of two rapes and has been charged with sexual assault and residential burglary, according to authorities. Dillon knew both of his victims.

According to the victims, one was raped at about 11 p.m. March 3 at her home in the 100 block of South State Street (Route 31).

Dillon was accused of taking a DVD player from the woman’s home after raping her. The DVD player was later found at a second hand store and authorities were able to identify Dillon as the seller.

In that case Dillon has been charged with one count of felony criminal sexual assault, felony residential burglary, one count of unlawful restriction and a misdemeanor theft charge.

The second incident took place at about 7:25 p.m. March 17, when a woman was threatened with rape at her home, in the 1600 block of

Mark Avenue, but she was able to escape. Dillon is accused of hitting the woman on the face and exposing himself before she was able to get away. Dillon took a 32-inch TV from the woman’s home.

The man was found a short time later hiding in a nearby apartment building and the TV was recovered.

In this case Dillon was charged with felony criminal sexual assault and residential burglary. Dillon received a $200,000 bond in each case and his next court date is March 28.

At the same time they were investigating the rape cases, officers were investigating the first murder case in the city this year.

Police said the rape and murder cases were not linked, after they investigated any possible patterns that would link the crimes.

The murder victim, 33 year-old artist Lisa Koziol-Ellis, was found dead in her home by her husband, Dash Ellis, when he returned home from work at about 2:30 a.m. March 2. She had been stabbed to death. The couple had just moved to the first block of Garden Crescent Court a few days earlier. In this case, authorities on March 17 charged Paul A. Johnson, 34, who lived three doors down from them, with murder.

rockford judge vacates guilty verdict in murder of 8-year-old

ROCKFORD – Un juez del Condado de Winnebago desechó el veredicto de culpabilidad de tres hombres encontrados culpables de matar a un niño de 8 años de edad.

Lumont Johnson, Tyjuan Anderson y Anthony Ross fueron enviados a prisión por matar a Demarcus Hanson en 2002.

Esta decisión abre el camino para un nuevo juicio.

En 2002 Hanson fue asesinado

después de que alguien disparara contra su casa mientras él dormía. Johnson, Anderson y Ross fueron arrestados por su muerte, pero han mantenido su inocencia.

ROCKFORD – A Winnebago County Judge vacated the guilty verdict of three men, who were found guilty of killing an 8-year-old boy.

The judge’s decision opens the door to a new trial.

In 2002 Hanson was killed after someone made some shots at his house while he was sleeping. Johnson, Anderson and Ross were arrested for

the murder, but they have said all along they are innocent.

Police believe the attack was directed at Hanson’s uncle, Alex Dowthard, who helped convict the men with his testimony.

According to the attorneys for Johnson, Ross and Anderson, audio tapes show Dowthard lied, but the defense didn’t receive the evidence on time to process it and use it at trial.

The judge agreed with this and the guilty verdicts were vacated.

Besides the lack of time to present new evidence, the request for a new trial was also presented because a former

Rockford Police officer, Douglas Palmer, testified that he had helped frame the accused. Prosecutors said Palmer had said this because he had left the department after allegations that he had been involved in an inappropriate relationship with an informant.

Johnson, Anderson and Ross have been in prison since 2002 and have taken steps to have their sentences vacated since 2011. Several people testified in an after-trial hearing that two other men were responsible for this murder. One of those men is in prison and the other one has since died.

“If that’s what it takes to get justice for this family and this child, the state’s attorney’s office will try this case again if that is what is necessary,” Winnebago County Deputy State’s Attorney Marilyn Hite-Ross said.

Prosecutors plan to make a motion to reconsider. Meanwhile, defense attorneys want the three men to be let out on bond, and a judge will make a ruling on this April 2.

La Junta de Comisionados Electorales de Aurora anuncia los requisitos para votar por adelantado para la Elección Consolidada Primaria el 9 de Abril 2013. Los votantes pueden emitir so voto antes del día de la elección sin dar razón o escusa para querer votar por adelantado, empezando el lunes 25 de marzo 2013 y concluyendo el sábado 6 de abril 2013.

La votación por adelantado tomara lugar en la oficina de la Comisión Electoral de Aurora, 323 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL, de lunes a viernes de 9:30 a.m. a 5:00 pm; el horario el sábado 30 de marzo será de 9:00 a.m. - mediodía. No habrá votaciones el domingo 31 de marzo 2013. El sábado 6 de abril la votación será disponible de 8:00 a.m. – 1:00pm. La votación por adelantado será llevara a cabo en la biblioteca pública de Aurora- sucursal Eola 555 S. Eola R., Aurora IL. De lunes a jueves, de 10:00 a.m. a 6:00 p.m. El viernes, la votaciones serán de 10:00 a.m- 4:00 p.m. Se podrá votar el sábado solamente de 9:00 a.m.- a mediodía. El sucursal Eola solo utilizara el quipo electrónico. Cualquier persona deseando votar con una boleta debe venir a la oficina de la Comisión Electoral de Aurora.

La ley requiere que un votante inscrito demuestre una identificación válida con fotografía antes de votar por adelantado. Los votantes que emiten su voto por adelantado deben demostrar una licencia de conducir, identificación del estado, o cualquier otra identificación proveída por el gobierno actual.

La ley prohíbe que la persona que ha votado por adelantado pueda votar de nuevo en el día de la elección. El voto emitido por adelantado no será contado hasta después de que las casillas electorales sierren en el día de la elección.

NOTICE OF EARLY VOTING CONSOLIDATED ELECTION– APRIL 9, 2013

The Aurora Board of Election Commissioners announces Early Voting Requirements for the April 9, 2013 Consolidated Election. Voters can cast a ballot prior to the Election Day without offering a reason or an excuse for wanting to vote early, beginning on Monday March 25, 2013, and ending on Saturday April 6, 2013.

Early voting will be conducted at the Aurora Election Commission Office, 323 W. Galena Blvd., Aurora, IL, Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m; Saturday hours on March 30th will be from 9:00 – Noon. There will be no voting on Sunday March 31, 2013. On Saturday April 6th, voting will be available from 8:00 am – 1:00 pm. Early voting will be conducted at the Aurora Public Library- Eola Branch 555 S. Eola Rd., Aurora IL. Monday through Thursday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Voting on Friday will be 10:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. There will be voting on Saturday from 9:00 a.m. – Noon only. The Eola Library will use the Touch Screen Machines only. Any person wishing to vote on paper ballot must come to the Aurora Election Commission.

State law requires that a registered voter show valid photo identification before early voting. Voters casting an early ballot must display a current driver’s license, a state-issued ID card or another Illinois government-issued ID with a photograph.

The law prohibits a person who voted during the early voting period from voting at the polls on Election Day. The vote cast during the early voting time period will not be counted until after the polls close on Election Day.

Absentee voting laws remain in place. Voters can still cast an absent ballot by mail as required under law.
