When they had gathered together they asked him, "Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?" He answered them, "It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusa-

lem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth."

When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white garments stood beside them. They said, "Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into

heaven." Today we celebrate the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord. We recall the episode in Acts of the Apostles, and in the gospels, when Jesus ascended from this earth to take his place at the right hand of the Father in the glory of Heaven. This feast marks the completion of our redemption. In descending from Heaven to earth The Word of God, the Second Per-son of the Most Holy Trinity took on our humanity so that we might have share in his divinity. Today, he takes our human nature and brings it to Heaven. When I stop and think about this my jaw drops. Forever will part of our race be united with God in his kingdom. That's just awesome to know that our head, our Lord, is in Heaven in bodily form. That means that part of us is already in heaven and where he has gone we hope to follow! One other point that we call to mind is that now that he is in Heaven he does not abandon us but sends down a multitude of graces and blessings from his throne. Like water from the seas in the heat of day, it rises not to disappear, but to bring life to the earth in the form of rain. In a similar way Jesus rises only to rain down on us every spiritual blessing in the heavens through the working of the Holy Spirit. Just as the Holy Spirit made Jesus present in womb of the Blessed Mother, and makes him present in the Eucharist as well as the other Sacraments, the Spirit makes Jesus present in us as well. Jesus has not deserted us but is now present to us always and everywhere through the working of the Holy Spirit. When we were children our teachers or parents would sometimes tell us to get our "heads out of the clouds" when we were caught day dreaming. Perhaps it is time to put our head in the clouds and ponder what it will be like when we, like Jesus, are glorified in the resurrec-tion from the dead and will bodily share life in Heaven with him. Dear Lord Jesus Christ, right before your Ascension into heaven you told your apos-tles to be His witnesses to the ends of the earth upon receiving the Holy Spirit. May I be similarly inspired to spread your Gospel message in word and deed, according to your will for me. And may I do so prudently and joyfully, with your help, your guid-

ance, and your grace. And remembering this glorious event, help me to seek what is above, Heaven, where you are seated at the right hand of God the Father!

Cuando se juntaron, le preguntaron: "Señor, ¿en este momento vas a restaurar el reino de Israel?" Él les respondió: "No les corresponde a ustedes saber los tiempos o las estaciones que el Padre estableció por su propia autoridad. Pero recibirán poder cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre ustedes, y ustedes serán mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea. y Samaria, y hasta los confines de la tierra ". Cuando dijo esto, mientras miraban, fue levantado y una nube lo alejó de su vista. Mientras miraban fijamente al cielo mientras él se iba, de repente dos hombres vestidos con prendas blancas se pusieron a su lado. Dijeron: "Hombres de Galilea, ¿por qué estáis allí mirando al cielo? Este Jesús que ha sido llevado de vosotros al cielo volverá de la misma manera en que lo habéis visto ir al cielo". Hoy celebramos la solemnidad de la Ascensión del Señor. Recordamos el episodio en Hechos de los Apóstoles, y en los evangelios, cuando Jesús ascendió de esta tierra para tomar su lugar a la diestra del Padre en la gloria del Cielo. Esta fiesta marca la finalización de nuestra redención. Al descender del Cielo a la tierra La Palabra de Dios, la Segunda Persona de la Santísima Trinidad tomó nuestra humanidad para que pudiéramos compartir su divinidad. Hoy, él toma nuestra naturaleza humana y la trae al Cielo. Cuando me detengo y pienso en esto, mi mandíbula cae. Por siempre, parte de nuestra raza se unirá a Dios en su reino. Es increíble saber que nuestra cabeza, nuestro Señor, está en el Cielo en forma corporal. Eso significa que una parte de nosotros ya está en el cielo y donde él se ha ido, ¡esperamos seguirlo! Otro punto que recordamos es que ahora que está en el Cielo no nos abandona, sino que envía una multitud de gracias y bendiciones desde su trono. Como el agua de los mares en el calor del día, se eleva para no desaparecer, sino para dar vida a la tierra en forma de lluvia. De manera similar, Jesús se eleva solo para derramar sobre nosotros todas las bendiciones espirituales en los cielos mediante la obra del Espíritu Santo. Así como el Espíritu Santo hizo presente a Jesús en el vientre de la Santísima Madre, y lo hace presente en la Eucaristía así como en los otros Sacramentos, el Espíritu hace que Jesús también esté presente en nosotros. Jesús no nos ha abandonado, pero ahora está presente para nosotros siempre y en todas partes a través de la obra del Espíritu Santo. Cuando éramos niños, nuestros maestros o padres a veces nos pedían que saliéramos "de la cabeza" cuando nos sorprendían soñando. Tal vez es hora de poner la cabeza en las nubes y reflexionar sobre cómo será cuando, nosotros al igual que Jesús, seamos glorificados en la resurrección de entre los muertos y compartamos corporalmente la vida en el Cielo con él. Querido Señor Jesucristo, justo antes de tu Ascensión al cielo, dijiste a tus apóstoles que fueran sus testigos hasta los confines de la tierra al recibir el Espíritu Santo. Que me inspire de manera similar para difundir su mensaje del Evangelio en palabras y hechos, de acuerdo con su voluntad para mí. Y que lo haga con prudencia y alegría, con su ayuda, su guía y su gracia. Y recordando este evento glorioso, ayúdame a buscar lo que está arriba, el Cielo, donde estás sentado a la diestra de Dios el
