Comparatives: -er / more (Comparativos: -er / more)

We use comparatives to compare two or more people or objects. We normally use the expression

-er than or more than depending on the numbers of syllables in the word.

For example: Big (one syllable word) We say bigger (we add suffix -er)

Intelligent (four syllable word) We say more intelligent (we add more)

Some comparatives are irregular: good-better (más-mejor) bad-worse (mal-peor)

(Utilizamos comparativos para comparar dos o más personas u objetos. Normalmente utilizamos

las expresiones -er than / more than -más que- dependiendo del número de sílabas en la palabra.

Por ejemplo: Big (grande) palabra monosilábica Decimos: bigger (agregamos sufijo -er)

Intelligent (inteligente) palabra de cuatro sílabas Decimos: more intelligent

Superlatives: -est / most (Superlativos: -est / most)

We use a superlative to say that a thing or person is the most of a group. When we use a superlative

adjective ('the tallest student') before the noun, we generally use it with 'the'. This is because there's only

one (or one group) of the thing we are talking about. We also pay attention to the numbers of syllables

included in the word.

For example: She is the tallest student in this school. (Ella es la estudiante más alta de la escuela)

David is the most intelligent boy here. (David es el chico más inteligente de aquí)

(Utilizamos superlativos para indicar que una persona o cosa es superior dentro de un mismo grupo.

Utilizamos un adjetivo superlativo antes del sustantivo, generalmente con el artículo 'the'. Esto sucede

porque hay un único objeto o persona de la cual estamos hablando. También, debemos poner atención al

número de sílabas incluidas en una palabra).
