La Iniciativa Interoceánica Sur- iSur es una alianza estratégica entre Odebrecht, Concesionaria Intero-ceánica Sur, CONIRSA, Conservación Internacional y Fundación ProNaturaleza establecida para contri-buir al desarrollo sostenible y la conservación en la zona de influencia de los tramos 2 y 3 de la Carrete-ra Interoceánica Sur.

iSur recibe el soporte financiero de Odebrecht Perú, el Banco Interamericano de Desarrollo (BID) a través del Fondo Multilateral de Inversiones (FOMIN), de la Corporación Andina de Fomento (CAF), así como de otras organizaciones, y es ejecutada por la Asociación Odebrecht Perú.

iSur fomenta iniciativas locales para la generación de trabajo y renta, impulsa la conservación de ecosistemas a través de actividades productivas sostenibles y promueve la participación local, contribuyendo así a la mejora de la calidad de vida de las poblaciones locales. Sus acciones se canali-zan a través de los programas de Econegocios, Turismo Responsable, Conservación de la Biodiver-sidad y Fortalecimiento de la Gobernanza Local.

Nos encontramos a lo largo de los tramos 2 y 3 de la Carretera Interoceánica Sur trabajando directa e indirectamente en la zona de influencia del corredor vial, desde el distrito de Urcos en el departamento de Cusco hasta la ciudad de Iñapari en el departamento de Madre de Dios, Perú, frontera con Brasil.

We are located along stretches 2 and 3 of the South Interoceanic Highway working directly and indirectly in the area of influence of the corridor, between Urcos in the state of Cusco, and Iñapari in the state of Madre de Dios, on the border with Brazil.

¿QUÉ ES ISUR?

The South Interoceanic Initiative – iSur, is a strategic alliance between Odebrecht, South Interoceanic Concessionary, CONIRSA, Conservation International and ProNaturaleza, established in order to contribute towards sustainable development and the conservation of the surrounding regions of stretches 2 and 3 of the South Interoceanic Highway.

iSur receives financial support from Odebrecht Perú, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) through the Multilateral Investment Fund (MIF), The Andean Development Corporation (CAF) and other organizations, and is executed by the Odebrecht Perú Association.

iSur encourages local initiatives for employ-ment and income generation, promotes ecosystem conservation through sustainable productive activities and promotes local participation, therefore contributing to improve the quality of life of local popula-tions. Its actions are channeled through Eco-business, Responsible Tourism, Biodiver-sity Conservation, and Local Governance Strengthening programs.

The following principles guide the strategies and actions of iSur,

Local governance autonomy: contribute to generate that the local popu-lation decisions are for common benefit and that they generate long –term, sustainable development.

Rational use of territory: promote within iSur actions the respect of skills and vocations of the territories, seeking to reduce the misuse of land in the project´s area and therefore induces similar actions in related places.

Pro�table productive management: improve the quality of life of the communities located on the highway surroundings, identifying employ-ment and income alternatives, to the local population.

Respect of local culture: learn and appreciate the worldviews, values and costumes in the area of the Initiative, in a disciplined process that will generate the necessary confidence for success.

Conservation of natural resources and biodiversity: build sustainable development strategies that contribute to the conservation of natural resources and biodiversity, improving the employment opportunities and income from sustainable activities.

The responsible of the implementation of iSur, is the Odebrecht Perú Association for Sustainable Development and Conservation (AOP) a nongovernmental, non-profit organization founded by Odebrecht Perú with perspective to execute other social, economic and environmental projects in other works of the company in the country.

In the area, iSur promotes the formation of Development Centers aimed at empowering local partners, such as promoters and protagonists of productive and conservation initiatives by mobilizing strategic partners and governments at all levels to achieve sustainability and successful projects, therefore generating a dynamic cycle of development.

The actions focus on the promotion of two centers: the High Andes Center, which covers the districts of Urcos, Ccatcca, Ocongate, Marcapata and Quincemil in the province of Quispicanchi, Cusco, and the Lowland Jungle Center, which covers the provinces of Tambopata and Tahuamanu, Madre de Dios.

16 projects are executed from the development centers, under four thematic areas identified in the Eco-business, Responsible Tourism, Biodiversity Conservation, and Local Governance Strengthening programs.

To ensure quality, efficiency and effectiveness of the contribution of the Initiative, iSur it has the Monitoring and Evaluation Unit, through which is maintained regularly and systematically the record of the progress of projects to verify the fulfillment of activities, obtaining of products and the achievement of results and planned objectives, as well as expected impacts.

The Eco- business Program seeks to contribute to the development of productive chains compatible with environmental skills, local partners and prospects for sustainability, bringing technology to improve production and add value to products, developing the market, and contributing to conservation of the environment.

Projects:

Creation and strengthening of networks of guinea pig breeders in the district of Ccatcca, Province of Quispi-canchi.

Alliance for native art.

Productive and management capacities development of the alpaca breeders, in the districts of Marcapata and Ocongate, in the province of Quispicanchi.

The Responsible Tourism Program aims to strengthen local capacity for touristic management of existing resources, and promotes the generation and develop-ment of profitable and sustainable touristic projects that can contribute to improve the quality of life, within a framework of governance and conservation, through the construction of first class infrastructure, developing quality standards in sustainable tourism, and promotion of the touristic macro- product South Interoceanic Highway.

The Biodiversity Conservation Program focuses on promoting the consolidation of conservation areas through the development of sustainable productive activities with local population and the appropriate arrangement with authori-ties, contributing to maintain biological connectivity and the biodiversity conservation.

Action plan for the consolidation of the Tambopata´s National Reserve zone.

Regional wilderness areas for public use and environmental services in the area of influence of the South Interoceanic Highway, Madre de Dios, Perú.

This program contributes to ensure the participation of regional actors in dialogue spaces and mechanisms, public- private consensus building and political impact, for the strategic management of the territorial develop-ment. These actions must be the result of informed processes and effective participation of communities, sector cooperation and fulfillment of institu-tional roles.

The program is developed under the following strategic areas: local leaders’ capacity building; consolidation of capacities of local authorities for the local economic development; strengthening of territorial consensus building instances for the strategic management of develop-ment; and establishment of intergovernmental and inter-institutional strategies for the promotion of productive development and natural resources conservation.
