A MESSAGE FOR YOU

Pg . 3

The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults and Confirmation

How does our parish attract inquirers each year who consider becoming Catholic? The short answer is you! When any parish has many inquirers year after year, it is the fruit of the Holy Spirit as parish members open their hearts to welcome others. Members of a welcoming and evangelizing community take seriously their call to share the Divine message of salvation. It happens in parish families, in the workplace, in gatherings with friends and neighbors, and in daily contacts. Give thanks to God as he continuously strengthens each of us who seek to do his will in offering a gentle, humble, and clear welcome to the Catholic faith. “Go out into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature.” (Mark 16:15) What is RCIA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is the process established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and receive the sacraments of initiation — Baptism, Confirmation, and the Eucharist. This initiation process also involves a parish community experiencing a renewal in faith as it prepares and welcomes new members into the Church. The Rite speaks of conversion as a “spiritual journey.” Centered on fostering a deep relationship with Jesus and the Church he founded, this journey takes place through distinct stages over a period of time suitable to bring about a thorough catechesis, significant experience of the parish community, and commitment to the liturgical and moral life of the Catholic faithful. Who is RCIA for? 1. Persons in need of Baptism. 2. Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become Catholic. 3. Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and/or Confirmation.

RCIA and Adult Confirmation preparation is starting soon! For more information, or to register, please contact: Deacon Tom Bishop [email protected] 480.844-4473

to labor and not to ask for a reward,

save that of knowing that I do Your will.

—Isaiah 22:19-23 —Romans 11:33-36 —Matthew 16:13-20

Cf. Ps 86 (85): 1-3 Turn your ear, O Lord, and answer me; save the servant who trusts in you, my God.

Have mercy on me, O Lord, for I cry to you all the day long.

Tune: Attende Domine, Music: Gregorian, Mode V. Text: Latin, tenth century, Verses Trans.: Ralph Wright, OSB,

Hear us, O Lord; have mercy upon us, for we have sinned against Thee.

Jesus our Savior, Lord of all the nations Christ our Redeemer, hear the prayers we offer, Spare us and save us, comfort us in sorrow.

Word of the Father, keystone of God's building, Source of our gladness, gateway to the Kingdom, Free us in mercy from the sins that bind us.

God of compassion, Lord of might and splendor, Graciously listen, hear our cries of anguish. Touch us and heal us where our sins have wounded.

John Michael Talbot © 1988 Birdwing Music

He is the good shepherd and He’s laid down His life for His sheep And out of many nations He’s gathered one fold in one faith. And He has built His church on the rock foundation of faith, On apostles and prophets who shepherd the people in his place.

There is one faith, one hope and one baptism, one God and Father of all. There is one church, one body, one life in the Spirit now given so freely to all.

He gave to Simon, Peter and to all of the twelve, The keys to the kingdom so darkness would never prevail. But some of the shepherds have pastured themselves on their sheep So He’s come out against them and scattered His people of faith.

But He’ll not forsake His people. He’ll claim His sheep for His own. He’ll send out His Word to the nations, regather His people back home. For He is the good shepherd He’s laid down His life for His sheep And out of many nations, He’s gathered one fold in one faith.

Lord Jesus Christ, I firmly believe that you are present in this Blessed Sacrament as true God and true Man, with your Body and Blood, Soul and Divinity. My Redeemer and my Judge,

I adore your Divine Majesty together with the angels and saints. I believe, O Lord; increase my faith.

R. Scallon © 1993 Heartbeat Music

We are one body, one body in Christ and we do not stand alone.

We are one body, one body in Christ and He came that we might have life.

When you eat My body and you drink My blood, I will live in you and you will live in My love.

When you eat My body and you drink My blood, I will live in you and you will live in My love.

Can you hear them crying? Can you feel their pain? Will you feed My hungry? Will you help My lame?

See the unborn baby, the forgotten one. They are not forsaken, they are not unloved.

I am the way the truth, the life, I am the final sacrifice. I am the way, the truth, the life,

He who believes in Me will have eternal life. (Repeat)

Cf. Jn 6: 54 Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood has eternal life, says the Lord, and I will raise him up on the last day.

Bless the Lord O my soul, O my soul Worship His holy name

Sing like never before, O my soul I'll worship Your holy name

The sun comes up it's a new day dawning It's time to sing Your song again

Whatever may pass and whatever lies before me Let me be singing when the evening comes

You're rich in love and You're slow to anger Your name is great and Your heart is kind

For all Your goodness I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons for my heart to find

And on that day when my strength is failing The end draws near and my time has come Still my soul will sing Your praise unending Ten thousand years and then forevermore

Henry Frederick Hemy, Frederick William Faber, Public Domain

Faith of our fathers, living still in spite of dungeon, fire, and sword; O how our hearts beat high with joy, whene'er we hear that glorious word!

Faith of our fathers, holy faith! We will be true to thee till death!

Our fathers chained in prisons dark were still in heart and conscience free; How sweet would be their children's fate, if they, like them, could die for Thee.

Faith of our fathers; We will strive to win all nations unto Thee; And through the truth that comes from God mankind shall then be truly free.

Faith of our fathers; We will love both friend and foe in all our strife; And preach Thee, too, as love knows how by kindly words and virtuous life.

I can see Jesus hanging on the cross. I can see Jesus hanging on the cross. I can see Jesus hanging on the cross. He came lookin’ for the lost and . . .

Love has come. Love has come. Love has come. And it’s givin’ me hope to carry on.

I can hear Jesus sayin’ “Father, forgive.” I can hear Jesus sayin’ “Father, forgive.” I can hear Jesus sayin’ “Father, forgive.” What a thing He did . . .

I can see love. Love is all I want to see. Love could make a beggar rich. It could set a prisoner free. I know He could do it for you, God knows He did it for Me.

I can see love. Love is all I want to show you. Love, love’s the only way to go. Love, love is all a man might need to know. This I know.

You know Peter put away his sword. I can see Peter he’s putting away his sword. I can see Peter he put away his sword. He won’t fight no more.
