This past Wednesday, March 2nd our 8th Graders went to register in their

future Catholic High Schools.

AWAKEN!

Most of us spend a third of our lives sleeping. Yet, in another sense, we’re probably

asleep more than half the time – and some of us never wake up. It’s true that we

need rest. Play is also good and necessary for both the body and soul. But how much

“rest” involves junk food, playing Call of Duty, watching soap operas or Net surfing?

Saint Paul speaks to us about being awake. Christ our Light brings a new dawn into

our lives. Baptism is a foretaste of the Resurrection that brings those virtually dead

out of their graves.

We need these awakenings, a strong shoulder squeeze, or a poke in the ribs to keep

us from sleep walking through the day. Ask yourself: “How did I help build the reign

of God today?” “What can I do – with my words, time, resources or love – that will

make the Kingdom more real to my friend, relative, or stranger?”

¡DESPERTAR!

La mayoría de nosotros pasamos un tercio de nuestra vida durmiendo. Sin embargo,

en otro sentido, estamos probablemente dormidos más de la mitad del tiempo - y

algunos de nosotros nunca despertamos. Es cierto que necesitamos descanso. Jugar

también es bueno y necesario tanto para el cuerpo y el alma. Pero ¿cuánto “descanso”

implica la comida barata, jugar Call of Duty, ver telenovelas o navegar en la red?

San Pablo nos habla de estar despiertos. Cristo, nuestra luz trae un nuevo amanecer

en nuestras vidas. El bautismo es un anticipo de la resurrección que saca a los

muertos prácticamente de sus tumbas.

Necesitamos estos despertares, una fuerte contracción del hombro, o un golpe en las

costillas para evitarnos el sonambulismo a través del día. Pregúntese: "¿Cómo he

ayudado a construir el reino de Dios hoy?" "¿Qué puedo hacer yo - con mis palabras,

tiempo, recursos o amor – para hacer que el Reino de Dios sea más real para mi amigo,

un familiar o un desconocido"?

Jubilee Year of Mercy

Dear Friends in the Lord: This Catholic Relief Service Collection funds six Catholic agencies that

work to serve Jesus in the disguise of our suffering brothers and sisters around the world. These agencies provide a broad range of services, including advocating for immigrants, providing humanitarian aid in the wake of natural disasters, resettling displaced individuals, and working for increased peace in our world.

In 2005, in war-torn Afghanistan, Aazar* and Ali* lost their family due to their father’s political affiliations. The boys, ten and eight years old, fled to Pakistan, looking for safety amid the many threats to their lives. Shortly after they arrived in Quetta, Pakistan they were separated,

and despite days of searching, Aazar could not find his younger brother.

Catholic Relief Migration and Refugee Services began working with agencies in the United States and Nepal and with the United Nations to reunite the brothers and, ultimately, after nine years of separation, the brothers were reunited and could begin to resettle and reconnect as family.
