¡Bienvenidosal número 11 de la revista

Frende!En el número anterior celebrábamos un aniversario doméstico–los 10 años de nuestra revista- que representaba un pequeñohito en la andadura de la EOI de Majadahonda.

En este número, abrimos nuestro teleobjetivo para abarcar unpanorama más amplio en el espacio, toda España, y en el tiempo,los 100 años de existencia de la Escuela Oficial de Idiomas comoinstitución.

Esta institución nos permite, día tras día, tender puentes decomunicación intercultural e interidiomática en un mundo cadavez más internacionalizado, tanto en las relaciones institu-cionales y económicas como en las culturales y turísticas. LasEscuelas Oficiales de Idiomas han contribuido durante un siglo aensanchar los cauces de comunicación en un mundo que hadevenido en esa aldea global que describió McLuhan.

La EOI de Majadahonda hace suyo el lema institucional “Cien añosdándote la palabra”, con la intención de no ahorrar esfuerzos pararesponder a los nuevos retos de nuestra vocación disbabélica.

100 añosÉstees un número muy especial para nuestra revistaporque las Escuelas Oficiales de Idiomas celebramosnuestros primeros cien años. Seguro que a más de uno os sor-prenderá pero la primera Escuela Oficial de Idiomas se creó allápor el año 1911 aquí en Madrid con el nombre de Escuela Centralde Idiomas. Aunque ya seamos centenarios, podemos presumir detener pocos achaques y de mantener un espíritu innovador,buscando siempre un contacto con la realidad de nuestro mundo yde nuestro alumnado, que es, obviamente, el que nos da sentido ynos anima a seguir trabajando con ilusión cada día.

El año 1911 puede resultarnos muy lejano pero las Escuelas Ofi-ciales de Idiomas de hoy tienen mucho en común con aquellaprimera, que surgió como una respuesta a un nuevo mundo quecomenzaba, a una necesidad social para abrirse a Europa. En unaépoca donde la palabras globalización o multiculturalismo no seusaban todavía, nació esta Escuela, no sólo para el aprendizaje delenguas modernas, sino, fundamentalmente, con una claravocación de fomentar el entendimiento entre pueblos y culturasque, quizás en aquella España de principios del siglo XX, seantojaba muy lejano. La Escuela Central de Idiomas fue pioneraporque a ella acudían alumnos y alumnas conjuntamente y enigualdad de condiciones, algo insólito en España en aquelmomento. Y no sólo eso, sino que pronto serían mayoría lasmujeres, entre las que se encontraban reconocidas activistas afavor de los derechos de la mujer como Carmen de Burgos. Surgíaademás esta Escuela como servicio público y destinada a cual-quiera, independientemente de su edad, profesión o clase social.Estos valores de equidad y de claro compromiso de serviciopúblico son, probablemente, los que mejor definen a las EscuelasOficiales de Idiomas en la actualidad.

¿Más similitudes? La constante renovación y adaptación a larealidad social y a las necesidades del alumnado. La primeraescuela rompía con la enseñanza tradicional de la gramática paraapostar por un método de enseñanza que priorizaba la lenguahablada y el uso de la lengua meta en clase. Las Escuelas Oficialesde Idiomas han ido incorporando las nuevas metodologías yenfoques en la enseñanza de idiomas hasta el actual enfoque comu-nicativo. No ha sido siempre fácil, bien por las carencias en for-mación o por el vertiginoso desarrollo de las nuevas tecnologías,

pero aquí estamos ahora, sacando partido de Internet, de los blogsy de la tecnología digital, con la ayuda, a menudo, ¿y por qué noreconocerlo? de mucho de nuestro alumnado, especialmente el queya ha nacido en plena era digital.

Sí, han sido 100 años, que también han sido un siglo de historiaespañola, europea y mundial. De aquella primera escuela con sóloun puñado de idiomas (francés, inglés y alemán y, pronto, españolpara extranjeros, italiano y, ¡esperanto!) hasta la expansión a otrosidiomas (ruso, chino o japonés) y con la entrada en la UniónEuropea, a un gran número de lenguas europeas. La llegada de lademocracia se reflejó en la enseñanza de las lenguas comunitariasy la explosión de las Escuelas: si a finales de los 60 se crean lasprimeras escuelas fuera de Madrid (Valencia, Bilbao o Barcelona) yhabía unos 10.000 alumnos y alumnas, en 2010 había 305 escuelasy 425.000 alumnos oficiales. La integración europea ha motivado laúltima gran reforma en la estructura de las Escuelas Oficiales deIdiomas en 2006, para adaptarlas al Marco Común Europeo deReferencia para las Lenguas con las nuevas certificaciones de Nivelbásico (A2), Intermedio (B1) y Avanzado (B2).

¿Y cuál es el futuro? En primer lugar, seguir prestando unservicio público de enseñanza centrado en el alumnado, enayudarle de manera efectiva en su integración en el mundolaboral del siglo XXI globalizado, donde las lenguas son y seránfundamentales, pero también, como hace 100 años, facilitar elentendimiento entre las distintas culturas y pueblos. Tenemosque seguir luchando por estar en la vanguardia y, culminar laincorporación de las nuevas tecnologías a la realidad del aula. Y,claro, queremos muchas cosas más, queremos poder impartir ycertificar el nivel C1 y C2 en todas las Comunidad Autónomasdel Estado, queremos otorgar una Certificación de prestigio anivel europeo y mundial, con un reconocimiento similar a los deotras instituciones europeas como el Instituto Goethe, la Uni-versidad de Cambridge o los exámenes DELF. Queremos ofreceruna auténtica enseñanza de calidad. Y para ello, contamos conun profesorado muy formado y muy profesional (aunque nosiempre muy reconocido) y con unas inmensas ganas de hacercosas. Y también contamos con un alumnado que confía ennosotros y que, esperamos, cuente con nosotros el año queviene y dentro de otros 100 años más.

This group of students who finished Advanced 2two years ago and said, “Now what??”, theyknew that they enjoyed each others companyand they enjoyed speaking English together,also they knew that if they stopped using theirEnglish that the old saying of “use it or lose it”is oh, so true!! So they came up with the idea ofthe CONTINUATORS. And they have existed eversince. This past year some of the “old” studentsaren’t here because of work transfers (BonjourMiguel Angel!) and other conflicts (classes,broken legs, etc.), (and these people even comewhen they can) but new people have joined andthe energy and participation have continued.

As you can see the topics are diverse and each get-together was a newadventure. Once again it has been a great experience thanks to some

students who enjoyed talking together in English!!

The students are responsible for thetopics, they rotate being moderatorand choose their own topics, preparethe vocabulary and discussionquestions, then sent them via email totheir fellow continuators. They meettwice a month and the sessions arevaried and always interesting.

This year the topics have included:

- Irregularities in apharmaceutical company

- Pay-as-you-view borrowing

This year’s Pre-intermediate levels of AulasEuropeas have enjoyed themselves.The fallgroup had a great Exam party as hasbecome traditional.The students arenervous, they have to be charming hostsand hostesses in English!! But they soonrealize that the students who come asguest/examiners are delighted to beinvited to a party and also enjoy seeingthat they can socialize in English too.

Hello! We are two middle-aged women friends who have been studying English with the program That’sEnglish for five years now. This year we are doing Intermediate 2.

Our experience has always been fantastic. English is a subject we love, the teachers at the EOIMajadahonda are very good and we don’t have any pressure, so we consider this as a secondopportunity. We also feel younger going to school and talking to our classmates and teachers.

Besides, getting involved in a project like this with a friend, who’s also your neighbour, is verymotivating. We decided to enrol on That’s English because it was a good way not to lose our knowledgeof English, without having much free time to go to class regularly three days a week.

Instead, we study on our own with the materials of the course – videos, audio and workbooks-- and twicea week we practice speaking for an hour in our tutorial, with our classmates and our teacher, Ana. Inthese classes we talk freely and spontaneously about a lot of topics: steoreotypes, money, education,movies, even international politics! We learn new vocabulary and structures and, most important of all,we gain fluency and self-confidence to communicate in an effective way.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and sometimes we’ve had our ups and downs, losing motivation and notbeing able to see the results of our progress.

But these imperfections were easily overcome, and turned into a lesson for life! Remember, studentsdon´t only learn from books!

You must have noticed that we are very optimistic and positive people. And full of energy in our fifties !!!

One of my first memories was when I wasabout six years old and spending mysummer holidays with my family inMallorca. My sister and I were showeredwith a lot of presents by my grandmotherin her old house.

Every morning we had breakfast; aspecial one with a big amount ofhome-made cakes and biscuits, themost delicious I have ever eaten inmy entire life.

Later we used to take excursions in order todiscover new places, new beaches. Therewe would play several games, we wouldmake sandcastles and of course we wouldswim a lot.

Now and again we went to the interior ofthe island to have lunch in a restaurantcalled “Cal Demoni,” but we had to passthrough a very long tunnel or it seemed likethat to me. In that tunnel there was alwaysa red and black man wearing big horns andholding an enormous garden fork scaringall the children that passed through it.

I remember that place like the mostfrightening and terrible place in the worldand at the same time I remember my fatherlaughing at the situation and making jokesthe following days.

Looking back I still remember the devil, butin another way, with nostalgia.

Maxine OrrEnglish Department

One of my earliest memories is of mysister, my cousins and me throwinggrapes at each other in mygrandmother’s flat. I was about fiveyears old and we were spending oneevening with all my family at mygrandmother’s place one day duringthe Christmas holidays. I don’t knowexactly what day it was but I’m sure ithappened a couple of days before NewYear’s Eve because those grapes wereto celebrate the New Year.

All the adults were in the living roomand they made the mistake of closingthe door and letting us play and runfree in the rest of the house. I can’tremember how it all started but itmust have been my older cousin whocame up with the idea because he wasthe oldest and the only boy and hewas always thinking up that sortpranks, while the three girls preferredto play with dolls or just talk.

The battle finished when one grapehit my little cousin’s eye and shebegan to cry. When the adults foundout what we had been doing, therewere grapes crushed all over thefloor, furniture and walls.

Even though I don’t remember everydetail, I’ll always remember that time asone of the funniest in my life.

Advanced Two has had a great year, talking, learning, talking, studying,talking, writing, and pretty much in that order. What I want to say is that astheir teacher I am very happy because once they have a topic to talk about, theytake off. I have to interrupt them (they’d continue talking during the wholeclass if I let them)! However, after talking about their childhoods, they actuallywrote about their memories and we’d like to share some of them with you.

One of my earliest memories isone when the world was notglobal yet, when going abroadmeant to cross borders, whenpassing through customs wassort of frightening.

I will always remember going toFrance for only two or threedays each year in summer whenI was six, seven and eight yearsold. I have a vivid recollection ofmy father driving a rundownCitroen 2 CV, its canvas sun-roofall covered in chewing gum. Mybrother and I would protectourselves from the dripping rainby sticking some chewing gumin the tiny holes opened in thecanvas over the years.

We were used to travelling longhours everyday in the summer.We had to be quiet all day longwhile travelling. That was boringand tiring at the same time but itwas OK. We were used to that.Only the prospect of goingoverseas took us out of the dailyroutine and we became thrilledwith excitement and anticipation.One memory that will stick in mymind forever is that of my mothersaying “Children, we are gettingclose to Customs. Behaveproperly. Stay still until the policegive us the go ahead”. As of thatvery moment, I always began tofeel sick. I was scared to death bythe possibility of those“gendarmes” searching our caror ourselves and by the newworld I was about to meet. Aworld of wonders in whichtelevision was in colour, whereyou could buy huge strings ofsweets or plastic balls withgorgeous surprises inside, whosetowns and villages, people andhabits, songs and language …were so different to what I knew.Those mixed feelings of fear andastonishment are the ones thathave fed a craving for trips andlanguages all my life. It is to themI have to thank for the moststunning moments in my life.

I will always remember that dayin which my mother and I werehaving a swim at one of themost famous beaches ofPontevedra, here in the north ofSpain. My parents and I usuallyspent many days on holidaythere when I was a childperhaps for about ten years orso.

One time on a sunny day mymother and I were swimmingnot very far from the seaside,apparently relaxed, going upand down when suddenly thesea began to become rough andwe realized we were not able totouch our feet on the seabed.We were completely frightenedand I started to hold her neckwith my hands. We tried toshout with our voices as high aswe could, but my father did nothear us.

I can hardly believe it, but westarted to call a kid who wasswimming with his rubber ringquite close to us.

At the moment, we held onto hisrubber ring tightly too andslowly we could touch our feeton the feet on the seabed again.

Luckily, everything was just ascare.

Manuel Tera

One of my earliest memories isof my little tricycle and how Iloved driving it when I was 4years old. Although I don’tremember when my parentsbought that tricycle, what I doremember very well is howmuch I enjoyed it.

It was a shiny pink tricycle withthree small but wide wheels.Every time I rode my tricycle Iused to proudly toot the big pinkhorn that it had on thehandlebars making such a loudand annoying noise in the streetthat everyone could hear me.

I always went to ride my tricyclewith my mother, she rode a bigbicycle and I had to pedal veryfast to catch up to her.Sometimes we used to go to anearby forest and I liked to picka bunch of flowers and takethem back home carrying themin the small pink basket that mytricycle had in the front. Iremember how excited andhappy I felt every time mymother took me out for a cycle. Ialways got ready very quicklyand went to the front door of thehouse to wait there eagerlyholding my tricycle until mymother came.

However, this joy didn’t lastlong. On one occasion my sisterand her best friend, both 5 yearsolder than me and considerablybigger, took my small tricycleand together got on it andstarted to pedal. With greatdifficulty, they reached a hill andboth, still mounted on mytricycle, slid down it. My tricyclewas good and durable but eventhat was not enough towithstand the weight of twoheavy girls; it broke descendingthe slope speedily.

I remember my older sister asking my mother for some“POPCORN”. As my mother didn’t give her any, she gotcross with her and shouted: “I’m going to look foranother mommy, a mommy who’ll give me popcorn”! Asshe was very small she couldn’t speak properly, whichmade this even funnier. She went out of the room veryserious, came to me and told me: “We have to go away,we have to look for another mommy, a mommy who willgive us popcorn”. I said nothing, but went behind myolder sister. When we were going away, out of the house,my mother, who was obviously following us, heard mesaying: “Maybe we should stay, we shouldn’t go away.Our mommy isn’t that bad and we don’t know how othermommies are.” “No, said my sister, we have to look foranother one. I want popcorn”.

The best memories of my childhood arerelated to one place called "Pataslargas",an old country house in the middle ofnowhere, surrounded by olive trees andorange trees not too far from Seville.

The house was such a big place, withplenty of huge rooms full with dusty,useless tools. The best thing was the oilmill, where we used to play hide-to-seek atnight. It was terrifying!

There was also a sort of swimming poolused to irrigate the fields. Its water wasterribly cold and so green that we couldhide in the corners, where the mossgathered; we called it "King Kongbogeys". This swimming pool was reallyan "alberca", two meters deep, a realdanger for us. But we survived in spite ofthe races we liked to run (it was obviouslymore exciting there than in any otherplace).

Sometimes we made great bonfires behindthe house, under the stars, singing andplaying the guitar while the adultsprepared good food for everyone, likechorizos and blood sausages. I have neverseen so many stars ever since.

Nevertheless, Pataslargas didn´t meancomplete freedom. My cousins and I (10 to15 children) were under the adults´supervision, we were supposed to do somehomework during the mornings. Makingnoise during nap time was out of thequestion. In fact, after lunch my father hadthe great idea of teaching us English. Somy brothers and I had to spend 1 or 2hours in a cool room called the game roomwith my father, who had found a niceEnglish method somewhere called"Pleased to meet you". On March 8,Andrew Marshall, a well-known actor in ourschool who´s visited us several times, put on aninteractive play called“Mad world challenge”.With theparticipation of a group of students, he conducted acontest with questions about English-speaking countries.

Our students express their opinions about books or filmswe´ve been working on or those ones they especially like.

It´s an interesting thriller, directed and written byDavid Mamet with a memorable atmosphere ofmystery, which tells the story of a frustratedpsychiatrist, Linda Crouse, who is introduced to JoeMantegna and his group, in the attractive andsuggestive world of the scammers of theunderworld.

I´d highlight the intriguing interpretations anddialogues of a good script with a radical andsurprising ending, although in my opinion, the plotisnot very credible and sometimes abuses ofinterior scenes. In fact it wouldn´t be difficult toshow it, as a play.

Nevertheless, I would recommend it as a veryentertaining film of suspense, original, clever andtwisted, that keeps you glued to the chair until thelast moment with an unexpected ending.

Washington Square is a novelwritten by Henry James(American writer, 1843-1916)and published in 1880. Thenovel seems to be based on atrue story, which refers to theactress and writer Frances AnneKremble. In fact, the writer hadan intense worldly life and heused to listen to the gossips ofhigh society, which fascinatedhim and were the source ofmany of his stories.

His novel is set in New York in thefirst half of the nineteenth centuryand gives us a selective analysisof the middle class in New Yorkthrough the relationships of thefour main characters: AustinSloper, a distinguished doctor, butcruel and cold with his daughter,his widowed sister, LaviniaPenniman, that acts as amatchmaker or “Celestine”; herdaughter, Catherine, a young lady,naive and shy, with an importantinheritance and no experience inlove; and, finally, her boyfriend,Morris Townsend, a handsomeyoung man, polite and charming,

but without money, that is, atypical fortune-hunter.

Anyway, it is a drama based onthe sentimental and familyrelationships of Catherine, whohas an idyllic and passionatelove, Morris, and anauthoritarian father, Dr. Sloper,who despises the lack of attrac-tiveness and talent of hisdaughter and opposes hermarriage, because he thinksthat Morris is only interested inhis daughter´s money . As ameans to pressure, he threatensto disinherit his daughter afterhis death. So, Catherine has tochoose between marrying andlosing her inheritance or obeyingher father.

The original novel is excellentand although it appears to be atrivial plot, with the highnarrative quality andpsychological portrait of hischaracters, it achieves a highliterary quality. His reading isenjoyable and the dialogue isalive and full of courtesy andirony. On the other hand, theReader that we have read iseasy to read and entertaining.

The novel touches on topics asdiverse as the idealized love,class differences, honour,distrust, contempt for themediocre and betrayal. Thecharacters live in a society inwhich the roles of men andwomen and hierarchies areuntouchable. But the best partof the novel is the evolutionexperienced by the centralfemale character, Catherine, theinnocent woman and easy tohandle, who with the passage oftime she realizes the contemptof her demanding and

perfectionist father andbecomes a cold, cruel andconfident woman.

The novel has been adapted tofilm twice. The first version, wasmade in 1949 and it wasdirected by William Wyler. It wasentitled "The Heiress" andstarred Olivia de Havilland asCatherine, Ralph Richardson asDr. Sloper and Montgomery Cliftas the suitor Morris. In it, Oliviade Havilland won an Oscar. Thefilm was also nominated forBest Supporting Actor, BestDirector and Best Picture. Thesecond one, from 1997 wasdirected by Agnieszka Hollandwith Jennifer Jason Leigh, AlbertFinney and Ben Chaplin as maincharacters.

An important difference betweenthe two films is that in Wyler´sversion, Morris's character isambiguous and not just astereotype, he is so charmingand sweet with Catherine thatyou don´t get to know if he reallywants her money. By contrast, inthe 1997 version, at the end ofthe film you find out that Morrisonly pursues Catherine´s dowry.

I agree with the criticism thatWyler's version is one of themost memorable dramas. Infact, being a black and whitefilm makes it more realistic.On the contrary, from my pointof view, although the lastversion seems to follow moreclosely the book it, does nothave the charm of the firstone. In my opinion, Holland´sversion is too sensitive andthe female character is toonaive and tender, resultinggreatly exaggerated.

The very well known music videos maker from Italy,Floria Sigismondi (Muse, White Stripes, Marilyn Manson,David Bowie, The Cure, and more), has recently madeher debut in the cinema with the topic she best knows:the music´s world, specifically with a biopic of TheRunaways, the first female punk band throughout thetime and formed by teenagers.

Already in 2004 had appeared a film about these fivemusicians called Edgeplay: A Film about The Runaways,directed by Victory Tischler-Blue, but the viewer hasn´tthe feeling of seeing the same. This one is adocumentary and Sigismondi, without going out of thetruth, has taken some licenses that helps to understandbetter the girls as well as the emergent punk movementin the 70´s in the Anglo-Saxon areas.

Taking as starting point the biography of the front girl ofthe band, Cheri Curri ( (Neon Angel: The Cheri CurriStory ), Sigismondi wrote the screenplay.

The film takes place in L.A. from 1975 to 1978 andtells us the story of the band from its origins to theleaving of Currie (Dakota Fanning). The decision of

putting the singer as the main character although thesoul of the band was the rhythm-guitarist Joan Jett isobvious: Curie was the one who most suffered theascent to the success and the later fall to hell.

The Runaways was formed by the very clever musicproducer Kim Fowley (played by Michael Shannon), JoanJett (Kristen Stewart), the drummer Sandy West (StellaMaeve) and the composer Kari Krome. This characterwas forgotten in the film maybe not to support the ideaThe Runaways was a fake and only wanted to provokewith the image of very sexy adolescents.

Sigismondi has given a very important role to Japan inthe film because it was so in the real life. The band hadfans in a lot of countries, such as England, Sweden,Finland, Norway, Belgium, French, Switzerland, the USA,Germany and more, but above all in Japan. There, TheRunaways was the third band´s music most sold, onlyafter Led Zeppelin and Kiss, and played in the TokyoMusic Festival, a huge success if we remember it wasrunning the year 1977.

But in Japan all the problems started too: Jackie Fox,the bass-player left the band, Currie got an importantdepression, arguments, drugs, the sense of oppressionwith the numerous fans… It seems it was too much forteenagers… And these problems affected not only theband, but the film´s team: Lita Ford, the lead guitarplayer, didn´t want to collaborate in the film and JackieFox, nowadays a successful lawyer in the USA threatedwith a demand if they used her name. Theconsequences were the downplaying of the character ofFord (played by Scout Taylor-Compton) in the script andthe creation of a new character for the girl who playedthe bass (Alia Shawkat), drawing together the five bassplayers the band had.

The production design is in charge of the MexicanEugenio Caballero (Oscar shared with Pilar Revuelta in2006 for “Pan´s Labyrinth” of Guillermo del Toro) andhe has been very faithful with the image in those dayswithout doing it flashy. And the costume design, by thedebutante Carol Beadle, shows us the girls following heridols like in real life: Cheri Currie like David Bowie, JoanJett like Suzi Quatro and Keith Richards, Lita Ford likeRitchie Blackmore (Deep Purple) and Jeff Beck,Robin/Jacki Fox like Gene Simmons (Kiss) and SandyWest like Roger Taylor (Queen).

It is additionally necessary to mention the soundtrackbecause all the songs of The Runaways are played andsung by the actresses (included the most famous:“Cherry Bomb”) and because of that here is when wenotice more than Joan Jett was one of the producers ofthe film and helped a lot Kristen Stewart with her work.The rest of the songs are from bands like Sex Pistols orThe Stooges. And this fact remembers us the absenceof a mention to the popular punk temple of New York,CBGB, where bands like the previous mentioned andalso The Ramones, Guns and Roses, The Police DeadKennedys, The Clash, The Misfits or Pink Floyd met eachother and The Runaways.

The Runaways was opened in the Sundance Festival(Park City, Utah) on the 24th January 2010 and inits short life has already got three nominations inthe Teen Choice Awards: Best movie actress forFanning, the same for Stewart and best film in thecategory of drama.

Despite the work of Dakota Fanning is excellent, I claimfor the work of Kristen Stewart because we have beenmade familiar with the good work of Fanning. But thediscovery of Stewart is a really great surprise. She wasknown by the Twilight´s saga but is now when we knowshe is an impeccable actress. So good the work ofTatum O´Neal (Currie´s mother) nobody remembers twohours after the film.

The film has got only a problem: Despite we will haveforever the LPs of The Runaways, the solo careers of themajority of their members after they broke up, the manyversions of their songs (Riot Girls, L7, Bratmobile,Shonnen Knife…) and the music videos, we will missthem and the film doesn´t give us a firm answer to thequestion “Why did The Runaways run away?”.

I will write about Eyes wide shut which wasthe last movie directed by the great Englishdirector Stanley Kubrick.

The screenplay is based on a short novelwritten by an Austrian writer ,A. Schnitzler, inthe latest years of the nineteenth centurynamed Traumnovelle. Nevertheless, it is setnowadays and its plot and sensitivity are verycurrent.

The film tells us about marital unfaithfulness.During Christmas time a young doctor and hiswife dream and live situations between realityand dreams. The husband tries to meet otherwomen but does not manage to be unfaithful.The wife does not look for other men but herheart is deeply disloyal.

It was played by a famous couple at thatmoment, Nicole Kidman and Tom Cruise(They split up after). She did a brilliant job,but we cannot say the same about him; hisperformance is quite poor.

The setting is an unknown city, although thedirector, as usual, pays great attention tothe details. Moreover, the musicalbackground is perfect ,the Beethoven operaFidelius.

I could not recommend the film to everyonebecause it is odd. Actually some critics didnot like it at that moment, but I love this filmand I think that it is a real masterpiece.

In my first-term class of Aulas Europeas, thestudents seemed to have a good British senseof humour!

It´s not an easy thing to be creative in aforeign Ianguage, but I like to challenge mystudents, and sometimes they like to bechallenged too! In one of the Aulas Europeasclasses, the students worked in groups andthe topic was the sense of humour.

I gave them some cartoons and they had toinvent the captions.

Es war einmal ein Fischer und seine Frau, die in einer Hütte in einer ruhigen Lage amMeer lebten.

Sie waren arm, aber glücklich, sie hatten gute Gesundheit und genug zum Essen, allerdings träumte die Frauständig davon, in der Stadt zu leben, und davon, in einem großen Haus mit einem schönen Garten zu wohnen undauch Dienerschaft und ein Luxusauto mit einem Chauffeur zu haben. In einer kleinen Hütte amMeer lebte ein Ehepaar. DerMann war Fischer. Seine Frau ging täglich auf denMarkt um die wenigen Fische, die ihr Mann gefischthatte, zu verkaufen. Sie waren arm und ihr Leben warsehr ruhig, aber sie waren glücklich.

Eines Tages nach demMittagessen saßen sie in derSonne. Es war warm und sie schliefen sofort ein......DerMann träumte von einemHausmit einemgroßenGarten , einemBrunnen, RasenundBäumen. Dawarseine Frau jungund sehr schön. Beide trugen eleganteKleidungen. Die Frau träumte, dass sie in einemSchlosswohnte,weil sie eine Königinwar. Da sie vieleDienerhatte, brauchte sie nichtmehr zu arbeiten. Sobald sieeinenWunsch aussprach, erfüllten dieDiener ihreWünsche. Sie trug eine Krone und eine lange schwarzeRobe. Aber kein König lebte imSchloss.

Plötzlich knallte einDonner undderMannund seine Fraubeidewachten auf. Er sagte seiner Frau: ,, Ich habe einenschönen Traumgehabt“ . ,, Ich auch!“ , antwortete sie underzählte ihm ihren Traum. Endlich sagte sie zu ihremMann: “Daswar sehr schön, aber duwarst nicht beimir,deswegen liebe ich unser Lebengern“ . DerMann sahseine Frau anund lächelte.

Das ist eine kurze Geschichte, in der es um ein königliches Ehepaar geht. Sie waren beide Königin und König voneinem kleinen, schönen Land. Sie waren aber nicht völlig zufrieden, weil sie in einem gröβeren Land leben wollten.Eines unglücklichen Tages brach eine Revolution aus und sie mussten unbedingt in ein anderes Land fliehen.

Dann dachten sie nach Island umzuziehen, weil entfernte Verwandte der Königin immer noch dort lebten. Indiesem Land wurden sie sehr arm, weil ihre Firmen und Unternehmen keinen guten Start schafften. Ihre Betriebegingen in Konkurs. Auch die Gesundheit des Königs wurde immer schlimmer und die Ärzte empfohlen ihm, nachSpanien, wo das Wetter angenehmer als in Island ist, zu fliegen. Also flogen sie nach Spanien, um in Andalusien zuwohnen. Anfangs waren König und Königin glücklich und bekamen vier Kinder. In ihren Unternehmen undBetrieben lief alles gut. Alles klappte. Eines Tages aber gab es in Spanien eine starke Krise und so wurden sie wiedersehr arm.

Es war einmal ein Fischer und seine Frau. Sie warensehr arm und deshalb wohnten sie in einer altenHütte neben dem Fluss, wo sie immer fischten.Eines Tages kameine Königin zu der altenHütte undsie sagte, dass sie die Schwester der Frauwar. DieKönigin hatte sehr lange nach ihrer Schwester gesuchtund sie hat sie schließlich gefunden. Die alte Frauwarsehrüberrascht, weil sie nichtwusste, dass sie eineSchwester hatte. Trotzdem lud sie sie ein, in ihrer Hüttezu essen. Da haben alle zusammendie Fische, die siegefischt hatten, gegessen.

Das Paarwar total froh über den Besuch, denn siewaren immer alleine unddie Königinwar sehr nett zuihnen. Die Königin dachte,was könnte sie für ihreSchwestermachen,weil, obwohl sie fast nichts hatte,sie sehr großzügig zu ihr gewesenwar, und deswegenentschied sie, ihnen ein neuesHaus zu schenken, dasgrößer undbesser als das altewar.

Seit demhabendie Frau und ihrMann eine gutesLebenund auch eine bessere Arbeit. Abermanchmalerinnern sie sich an ihr altes Leben auf demLand.

An jenem Morgen nach demDuschen hörte Mitzi einTelefongespräch ihres Mannes miteiner unbekannten Frau mit. Diesgeschah allzu oft in den letztenMonaten. Nach einemTelefongespräch mit einem Freundentschied sie Horatius zu töten,wegen seiner mehrfachen undwiederholten Untreue.

Als Horatius später ins Badezimmerzum Zähneputzen kam, gingen Mitzi

und ihr Freund in das Badezimmerund schlugen ihn hart auf den Kopf.Dann zogen sie Horatius seineKleider aus und deckten ihn miteinem Handtuch zu.

Mitzi ging in die Dusche mit ihrenSchuhen und warf ein Stück Seifeauf den Boden.

Sie wollte damit einen möglichenUnfall vor der Polizei inszenieren,als Horatius aus der Dusche kam.

Horatius fiel mit der Zahnbürstenoch in der Hand. Während erherunterfiel, ließ er dieParfumflasche, die kaputt ging, aufden Boden fallen. Er rutschte nicht,als er die Dusche verließ, weil seinKörper trocken war. Nur sein Kopfzeigte Flecken von Blut, wegen desMordes.

Es handelt sich doch um einenMord und nicht um einen Unfall.

An diesem Morgen stehtHoratious sehr früh auf. SeineFrau Mitzi ist nicht mehr da. Ergeht in das Badezimmer undduscht schnell. Man sieht, dassder Wasserhahn immer nochtröpfelt. Horatius nimmt dieZahnbürste, schmiert etwasZahnpasta darauf und beugtsich zum Zähneputzen nachvorne. Plötzlich schlägt jemandihm am Kopf!

Die Polizei kommt. HoratiusLeiche liegt auf dem Boden, miteinem Badetuch abgedeckt.Eine zerbrochene

Parfumflasche liegt neben ihm.Die Polizei denkt über dieIndizien nach. Nichts ist klar!!Die Seife liegt auf dem Boden,nicht weit weg von HoratiusLeiche, aber....ist sie vomWaschbecken runtergefallenoder von der Dusche?

Die Polizei merkt, dass dieMordwaffe die Waage war.

Sie zeigt 20 Kg.

Und es war so, als ob jemandfalsche Fussspuren hinterlassenhätte.

Wer war der Mörder? Jemandhat sich ihm vielleicht vonhinten genähert. Und dieWaffe? Ein idiotensicheresDing…, nichtsBesonderes,…eine Waage!!Horatius fühlte sich sicher imBadezimmer, er drehte sichnicht um, als jemand ihm vonhinten näher kam. Die Polizeikonnte die Geschehnisse frühaufklären. Aus einemEifersuchtsstreit wurde einMORD!

Montagmorgen um 8 Uhr hatdie Polizei HoratiusFärbermuckel tot in seinemBadezimmer aufgefunden,weil sie einen anonymen Anrufbekommen hat.

In diesem Moment fing diePolizei an, so viele Beweise desMordes wie möglich zusuchen. Je mehr Beweise siefinden, desto einfacher wird essein, den Mord aufzuklären.

Der erste Beweis, den diePolizei sah, war, dass Frau undHerr Färbemuckel getrennteHandtücher benutzten,vielleicht verstanden sie sichalso nicht so gut. Seit diesem

Moment ist MitziFärbermuckel eineVerdächtige.

Aber es gibt noch etwas: dieDusche tropft noch, undjemand hat ein Tuch benutzt.Die Seife liegt auf dem Boden,zu weit von der Duscheentfernt, sie kann also nichtvom Seifenhalter gefallen sein.Jemand hat sie dorthin gelegt.Alle diesen Beweise warennicht genug, aber zum Schlussfand die Polizei vieleSchuhspuren einer Frau. Nichtvon Mitzi, dazu sind sie zuklein. Sie passen aber genauperfekt zu Frau Müller, der

Nachbarin von Horatius, die inihn verliebt war.

Als Mitzi außerhalb des Hauseswar, war Frau Müller in dasHaus der Färbermuckelseingetreten mit dem Schlüssel,den sie hatte. Als Horatiusseine Zähne putzte, schlugFrau Müller ihn auf den Kopf.Nachdem sie Horatius getötethatte, hat sie das Tuch und dieSeife und die Parfümflascheauf den Boden gestreut, unddann hat sie die Polizeiangerufen.

Die Hauptfigur seiner Comics istsein Alter ego, Werner. Beidelieben Motorrad fahren, Jeansund Westernstiefel tragen, mitFreunden in Kneipen Bier zutrinken und die Polizei und denTÜV (TechnischerÜberwachsungsverein) auf denArm zu nehmen.

Sie sind sich so ähnlich, dass viele von denGeschichten, die in den Comics sind, echteErfahrungen des Künstlers sind, vor allem die inden ersten Bänden. Ein gutes Beispiel ist dieses: inseinem Jugendalter hatte Brösel kein Geld, um einMotorrad zu kaufen und er baute eins mitverschiedenen kaputten Motorrädern, die ergefunden hatte, und genauso machte es Werner.

Aber ab und zu geht die Fiktion vor die Realitätund deswegen hat Brösel irgendwann Wernernachgemacht: Im vierten Band der Geschichtenvon Werner (“Eiskalt, Eiskalt”, 1985) machteWerner ein Autorennen gegen seinen Feind,Holgi, der glaubt, sein Porsche ist besser alsirgendein Motorrad. Vor 250.000 Zuschauern unddrei Tage lang organisierte Brösel am Flughafenvon Schleswig-Holstein das Rennen. Er fuhrWerners Motorrad, das Horex mit drei Motoren,und ein Freund von ihm den Porsche.

1978 hatte Brösel Litographie gelernt, aber er wararbeitslos. Um Geld zu verdienen, malte er inVignetten seine eigenen Erfahrungen alsArbeitsloser, Mottorradliebhaber und Rebell vorder Politik und der Gesellschaft. Die satirischeZeitschrift “Pardon” kaufte sie. So war Wernergeboren.

Drei Jahre später und mit der Hilfevon Freunden, die ihm mit Geldhalfen, veröffentlichte Brösel denersten Band, “Oder was?” DieAuflage waren 10.000 Exemplareund in einem Jahr war allesausverkauft. Heutzutage gibt esdreizehn Bände.

Aber Wener ist nicht nur durch dieBücher bekannt. Die Filmindustriewusste, Werner war ertragsfähigund seit 1990 gibt es Filme vonWerner: vier schon uraufgeführtund der fünfte in Nachproduktion.Brösel arbeitet nicht nur alsDrehbuchschriftsteller, sondernauch als Spielleiter in demZeichentrickdepartement undmacht die Stimme von Werner.

Andere wichtige Figuren in denComics und Filmen sind Röhrich,der Präsi, Eckat, Andi, Walze,Bruno, Helmut, Ölfuβ und Holgi.

Röhrig und Andi sind beideBrösels Bruder nachempfunden.Mit dem ersten erzählt der Comic-

Autor das Leben des Bruders alsKlempner und mit dem zweitendas private Leben.

Andere Freunde sind Eckat, Ölfuβund Walze. Alle sind Mitglieder des“Mc Klappstuhl” Klubs, wo sich dieMotorradfahrer undRockliebhaber treffen. Der “Präsi”des Klubs ist dem Sänger undGitarrenspieler Raymond Vossnachempfunden. Bruno undHelmut sind die Polizisten. Brunostört Werner sehr gern, aberHelmut hilft ihm, wenn Bruno esnicht bemerkt.

Aber das Auffälligste bei denComics von Brösel ist die Sprache,die er benutzt: eine Mischung ausPlattdeutsch, dem Dialekt vomNorden, und Wortspielen. Deshalbist das Lesen dieser Comicsmanchmal schwierig, aber dieMühe lohnt sich, weil sie sehrlustig und erfinderisch sind.

Um 1960 war Vitoria eine kleineStadt mit 73.000 Einwohnern.Seit diesem Jahr war dasBevölkerungswachstum sehrwichtig durch den Aufschwungder metallurgischen Industrie.

Viele Leute sind nach Vitoriagezogen, um in der Metallurgieund anderen Sektoren zuarbeiten, und heute gibt es240.000 Einwohner.

Über die Wirtschaft könnte mansagen, dass wichtige Firmenhier sind. Mercedes Benzproduziert in Vitoria seineWagen Vito und Viano.Michelin, Gamesa und Daewohaben auch Fabriken in Vitoria.Die älteste Firma ist Fournier, inVitoria seit 1868.

Sevilla ist die Hauptstadt der Autonomen Gemeinschaft Andalusien. Sie liegt in Südspanien,zwischen den Städten Cordoba im Nordosten und Cádiz im Südwesten. Der Fluss

Guadalquivir, der der einzige schiffbare Fluss in Spanien ist, teilt die Stadt in zwei Teile. Mitüber 700.000 Einwohnern ist Sevilla die viergrößte Stadt Spaniens.

Peut être pour cette raison lesFrançais l’aiment, et ils sonttellement préparés pour voyageren camping-car. La France est lepays le plus préparé que je connaisen Europe, pour le camping-car.Normalement il y a toujours unlieu réservé pour eux là-bas. Il fautseulement voir le Tour de France etles milliers de Français quivoyagent de cette manière enaccompagnant les cyclistes. LesFrançais aiment aussi aller faire duski à la montagne dans leurcamping-car.

On peut en louer un pour lesvacances, en Espagne ou en France.

Moi aussi, j’aime passer mesvacances en voyageant dans uncamping-car, et plusieurs fois par

an je visite notre pays voisin: enhiver pour faire du ski auxPyrénées, et pendant l’été pourconnaître d’autres régions du pays.

L’été dernier, je suis allée enNormandie et en Bretagne avecmon mari au mois de juillet.

Nous avons commencé le voyagevers Paris, parce que c‘estimpossible de passer près de Pariset ne pas le visiter. Il y avaitbeaucoup de gens partout carContador était arrivé aussi, c’estdommage.

Les Champs-Élysées étaient fermés àla circulation, et d’autres rues aussi,mais par contre (quelle chance) leMusée du Louvre était vide.

Je crois qu’il vaut mieux faire levoyage du sud au nord, pour allerdes endroits les moins merveilleuxaux endroits les plus jolis; à l’envers lepaysage te surprend de moins enmoins. De la Normandie je mesouviens surtout de la côte d’Étretat,(elle est semblable à la plage de“Lascatedrales”à Lugo), et bien sûr duMont Saint Michel. Nous avons eu lachance de faire la visite nocturne,avec de la musique en direct dedifférents instruments dans chaquesalle, et le mieux de tout c’est qu’il n’yavait presque personne.De laBretagne, le plus spectaculaire pournous a été la côte en granit rose. Deplus, le matin les bateaux sont sur laterre et l’après-midi ils peuventnaviguer.

150 g. de sucre

150 g. de beurre

200 g. de chocolat

350 g. de biscuits

½ verre de café

Préparation:Battre les œufs.

Ajouter le sucre, le beurre et lechocolat fondus.

Verser le café très chaud.

Mouiller un torchon et le mettresur le moule.

Gâteau aux Carottes

Dégustationgastronomique

INGRÉDIENTS:4 œufs

Une tasse de farine complèteUne tasse de farine normale

Une tasse d’huile d’olive douceUne tasse de cassonade¾ kilo de carottes râpées

½ paquet de levure.

PRÉPARATION:1. Battre des œufs avec la cassonade.

2. Mélanger la farine et la levure.

3. Ajouter les carottes aux œufs et après,les farines.

Préparation• Faire une base de gâteau (on peut l´acheter préparée) et mettre dans un moule à charnière.

• Chauffer une demi-tasse de café au lait au micro-ondes, ajouter du sucre à ton goût et un peu de rhum.Tremper le gâteau dans le café.

Première couche:• Dissoudre un sachet de caillé en poudre dans un verre de lait.

• Faire bouillir une brique de crème, ajouter deux cuillères à soupe de sucre et remuer.

• Fondre la tablette de chocolat noir dans le micro-ondes, ajouter à la crème et remuer.

• Quand le mélange antérieur boût, mettre le caillé dilué dans le lait et remuer.

• Faire bouillir le tout pendant quelques minutes. Retirer du feu et remuer. Quand il ne boût plus, renverser surle gâteau et attendre qu’il se refroidisse pendant qu´on fait la couche suivante.

Même procédé pour les deux autres couches enchangeant le type de chocolat.

Pour fêter le dernier vendredi de cours dans le niveau débutant 1, Vanessa nous a préparé unsuperbe gâteau aux trois chocolats dont vous trouvez la recette ci-dessous. Exquis !

Préparation du court bouillon:Couper les oignons, les carottes en rondelles et

mettre les queues de persil au fond d’un plat à

gratin.

Verser 3 verres de lait et 1 verre d’eau froide.

Ajouter 4 cuillères à café de sel et 2 de poivre.

Mettre à grand feu et attendre l´ébullition. Lorsque

l’ébullition commence, réduire un peu le feu et faire

cuire 20 mn.

Préparation de la raie:Placer la raie sur le plat du court bouillon en

ébullition, l´ arroser et faire cuire pendant 10 mn.

Enlever la peau des 2 côtés.

Dans ces mêmes 10 mn , verser le vin blanc avec le

sucre dans unecasserole moyenne, et le faire réduire

de moitié sur un feu assez fort. Verser ensuite 3

louches de court bouillon et faire réduire un peu.

Ajouter le safran et la crème fraiche aux 3 louches de

court bouillon. Ajouter les 3 jaunes avec un peu de

fromage râpé ; battre le tout à feu doux (les jaunes

d’œufs ne doivent pas cuire). Jeter l’excédent du

court bouillon et nettoyer le plat ; mettre les

clovisses dedans ; rajouter un peu de beurre et 50 gr

ou plus de fromage râpé. Mettre la raie dans le plat ;

verser la sauce sur la raie et remettre un peu defromage râpé.

Enfourner la grille étant ¾ vers le bas, allumer le grill

et faire gratiner jusqu’à ce que les clovisses s’ouvrent

et que le fromage soit doré, environ 20mn.

Je voudrais rendre hommage à un hommeâgé de 93 ans qui n’a pas perdu la force et laconviction qu’il avait déjà quand il était jeune,son nom ? Stéphane Hessel. Je l’ai connugrâce à son livre, un petit livre d’une trentainede pages qui a été publié le mois d’octobredernier et qui est immédiatement devenu unbest-seller. Il y dénonce les écarts de richessesgrandissants, le manque d’humanité enversles sans-papiers, la dictature des marchésfinanciers et il nous crie:

INDIGNEZ-VOUS !Stéphane Hessel est un Français né à Berlin et son pèreétait juif. Il faisait partie de la résistance avant d’êtredéporté à Buchenwald durant la Seconde Guerremondiale. En 1948, il participe à la rédaction de laDéclaration universelle des droits de l’homme, avant dedevenir ambassadeur de France. Il se révolte contre cemonde qui nous entoure comme il l’a fait pendantl’occupation; il continue à être un résistant.

En 2004 il lance, avec Lucie et Raymond Aubrac, Appel desRésistants aux jeunes générations, où on peut lire « Aumoment où nous voyons remis en cause le socle desconquêtes sociales de la Libération, nous, vétérans desmouvements de Résistance et des forces combattantes dela France Libre (1940-1945), appelons les jeunesgénérations à faire vivre et retransmettre l’héritage de laRésistance et ses idéaux toujours actuels de démocratieéconomique, sociale et culturelle »

La France paralysée par la neigeLes flocons étaient déjà tombés enmasse avec des couches de 20 à25 cm à la fin du mois de novembreen province. Un record de froid amême été battu avec -17 degrésrelevés dans la région Centre le2 décembre. Mais le 8 décembre,c’ est toute l’ Ile-de-France qui a étéparalysée par la neige et le verglas.
