Smart Appliances Management systems (SAM)

Within the framework of Smart Grids, a modular structure based on Nanogrids coordinated to constitute Microgrids, suppose a challenge for the distribution power system. Those Nanogrids (a single building or a small community of consumers), must work properly both isolated and grid-connected, providing adequate security and quality of supply. The scope of this project is the integrated management of a Nanogrid, with its own photovoltaic production system, hybrid energy storage of batteries and supercapacitors, and smart appliances (manageable loads).

COntrol and Management of Isolable NanoGrids

The project includes three coordinated subprojects:

CSING (University of Extremadura) deals with the design of the control strategy, shared among generation and storage systems, to work properly both in isolated and in grid-tied mode, regarding the synchronization issue.

Direct Smart Appliances control is tackled in SAM (University of Córdoba), which starts from energy consumption models in residential areas, defines communication technologies and protocols to support of direct load control (DLC) and demand response (DR) programs.

Finally, SISEM (University of Cádiz) provides monitoring power quality and very short-term forecasting of photovoltaic energy production.
