Reflection of the Week
At the close of today’s Gospel Reading from St. Luke, Jesus makes a statement that will echo forever to those who seek to practice stewardship: “Much will be required of the
person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.” Jesus is speaking of His expectations of us and His faith in us.
We often speak about how important faith in the Lord is, but we also need to understand that He has a strong element of faith and trust in us as well. It may not seem fair that expectations are connected to the gifts we have received, but that is in fact reality. A popular stewardship saying is “not equal giving but equal sacrifice.”
That goes hand in hand with what the Lord is trying to teach us in the Parable of the Faithful Servant in today’s Gospel. First, of course, we must recognize our gifts and that we are gifted. Then God’s expectations of us are tied to how we use our gifts. If we receive more, we need to share more and give more of our time, our talent, and our treasure.
Also in the Gospel of Luke in an earlier chapter we learn from the Lord what the rewards are for using God’s plentiful gifts as good stewards. Jesus says in Luke 6:38 “Give and gifts will be given to you; a good measure, packed together, shaken down, and overflowing, will be poured into your lap. For the measure with which you measure will in return be measured out to you.”

A letter from Life Choices Community Pregnancy Clinic
We are so thankful for the partnership of Corpus Christi Catholic Church again, this year, in our Baby Bottle Boomerang. ..
The total donated by Corpus Christi Catholic Church this year came to $790.86! Please let everyone there know how much we appreciate their support. Every victory won through Life Choices is their victory! Every time a woman who comes to the Clinic chooses life, every time a client puts their trust in Jesus , every time a woman (and many times the father of the baby) attends a class and learns about their baby and caring for their baby, every time a junior high or high school student chooses to remain sexually pure, every time a woman is set free form the shame of a past abortion through the love of Jesus Christ, the victory is shared by each dear person who puts everything from changes to checks in a baby bottle…
May God bless you as you continue to shine the light of Jesus in our community!

TREASURES FROM OUR TRADITION Last week’s “Treasure” noted that the official headgear of the pope, the tiara, has been set aside in favor of the miter. Although Pope Paul VI had a coronation in 1963 to begin his ministry as pope, he later gave his tiara away to the Catholics of the United States as a stimulus to end poverty. He took care to say that he was not abolishing the tradition of coronation, but his successor, Pope John Paul I, decided to have an inauguration to begin his tragically short term. His successors have chosen inauguration as well. Pope John Paul II felt that a return to the coronation custom would be inappropriate since the Church was mourning the sudden death of a man already nicknamed “The Laughing Pope.” So the end of coronations came about not because Paul VI gave the crown away. There are more than twenty tiaras on hand at the Vatican. One is used every year to crown the famous statue of St. Peter, whose sandaled foot has been eroded to a bright shine by the hands of millions of pilgrims. Today, it is left to the individual pope to decide whether he will begin his formal reign with a coronation or an inauguration. Pope Benedict chose an inauguration, as did Pope Francis.
