    Overall concepts I employed

Conducted the class from a Workbook that I annotated

Marked the areas in the section that had questions at the end.Emphasizing them helped students get the answers correct andboosted confidence

Had students hand back the 3 day evaluations

Handed out only the days agenda. Provide only a high leveloverview of the 4 day boot camp.

The agenda online has notes for the instructor which I took outbefore handing it to students. I felt leaving this in diminished myexpert status

Gave folks the choice to use a stick not or a red star for the star

processes. Everyone went with the red star.

Used the Easy right. phrase a lot and it helped

Relied on hotel to provide scratch paper. Not sure Ill do that again

I continued to ask students where they were in the PM process

When reviewing students should strike a balance between deepconcentration and logical thinking

    Workbook methods that I used

    Framework

Have students get out their cardstock process chart for page 12

    Integration

Before moving into integration, go over the first page of ITTOs andexplain why some are gray, bold etc.

I created a list of information that might be contained in the projectcharter just in case they asked.

Page 6, questions 4,5,6 and 7 could likely be moved to section 5 ofIntegration as the information is not discussed till then.

    Time

Recreated page 13 as a handout and had them do a Foreword andbackward pass to determine float, CP etc.

    Cost

Page 8; I had them complete case study 2 on their own and thendiscuss

    Workbook methods that I used

    Quality

After going over the different parts of the Control Chart I askthem to tell me where the red flags or issues were

    Remember trickIshi rhymes with fishy

Remember trickScatter has 2 ts and is a diagram showing therelationship between 2 variables

Page 5; question 3 is tricky and I point this out. Yes a checklist is atool but not for PLAN quality

    Risk

I point out that identify risk an risk register are not part of the riskmanagement plan

    Procurement

Students asked me if contract change control system was part ofintegrated change control. I looked this up in PMBOK andconfirmed that indeed it is.

    Test Tips

Eat a little before you go in but dont drink a lot of liquids to minimizenecessary restroom breaks

A little exercise before the exam is good. Consider arriving early tothe testing center and just walk around the area a bit before the test.

    Tell them about the lockers

Stay positive as you my feel that the test is beating you down. If youfeel youre frowning a lot, smile You are going to pass!

Breaks are fine if you have the time but if you dont, stretch and/orstand up and answer a few questions that way

    Teaching PMP Classes

The first class I taught was just a little under two weeks ago. I was notnervous since I had the time to do most of the preparations.

What I did before teaching the class:

    Introductory email to student

Week before class email to ask about their progress.

And email to let them know the venue, dress code, etc.

Got a lot of positive feedback from students for the emails.

  • 8/12/2019 Webex Presentation Oct 9 2010

    28/56

No challenges in the first class due to preparation. Since I hadcontacted all three students already on the phone, it was easy when I

    got to class.

Didnt distribute the Agenda wrote Chapters to be covered on the

    board and the homework daily.

    29/56

Class went on schedule. Student feedback: they like having theschedule written on the board daily.

Students raised more questions on the following chapters: quality,

    risk, and procurement.

Students didnt like the Day 3 Test because a lot of the questions are

repetitive (they have already covered in the Chapter Test book). They

    like the Final Test.

What I did well Maintaining a quality teaching program while working through a

difficult and stressful event of moving a class to 3 locations within a 4

    day period.

Development of an agenda for students which was instrumental in

keeping the class on track and staying focused on the task at hand.

Identified areas where students were not understanding the material

and carved out additional time to clarify terms and definitions.

  • 8/12/2019 Webex Presentation Oct 9 2010

    42/56

Learning Opportunities A more clear understanding of the guidelines for exam

reimbursement and reimbursement when a student moves to

another class due to a cancellation in the area they were scheduled.

Understanding the online process that the students have access to

while the boot camp is in progress.

I have requested a log in for that portion and am in the process

    of reviewing it.

    43/56

Challenges Hotel locations have been in downtown areas where parking is $15-

$20 a day. This has caused a number of complaints from students

Settling into a pace of which was easier with my second class as I was

    more familiar with the material.

Dealing with students who have not done the pre-work and have

not begun the PMI Exam registration. This causes the first day of

class to run behind due to the student being ill prepared to take the

    course.

Not having a policy in place for a student who has not done the pre-work which would postpone them from taking the current class.

    Teaching Experience

  • 8/12/2019 Webex Presentation Oct 9 2010

    44/56

    What I would change

Students have consistently requested a blank process chart which

does not have the 5 processes and 9 knowledge areas filled in.

It be mandatory for a student to have completed the online prep

    work prior to the class.

Have classes in areas where there is ease of access to the hotel

and better parking conditions for students.

Give students access to the Day 3 Review and the Final Test online

after the 4th day ends. This would allow them to take it online

which is how the exam is administered.
