Read the text and answer the questions

A Healthy Lifestyle

As time goes by, doctors and scientists are finding a strong relationship

between the mind and the body. It's becoming clear that how you feel

mentally and emotionally is very important for the way you feel physically.

Have you ever thought that once you passed the age of 20 you start to die?

Of course that is generally a slow process but you can't escape from it.

Teenagers find it difficult – if not impossible- to imagine themselves as

middle-aged or old people. That’s because they are young, fit and strong;

however, if they don't get into the habit of taking regular exercise early in

life to keep like that as long as possible, they will have lots of problems

when they are older. One of the easiest ways to keep fit is to stick to a

healthy diet, that is to say, to eat fruit, fresh vegetables and food containing

fibre, regularly. Smoking is something you must give up if you want to be

healthy. Also, try to reduce your alcohol consumption and avoid being too

fat.

C. Smoking, consuming alcohol regularly

5. The idea of this text is to give advice on A. how to be healthy

B. how teenagers feel

C. the benefits of smoking and drinking alcohol

Part 6Read the text and answer the questions

Doctors may tell you that junk food is bad for your health but McDonald’s, Burger King or Pizza Hut can prove that young people don’t listen to that advice…

How did the hamburger become the most popular, most typical American food?

FAST FOOD

Page 6: €¦  · Web viewComprensión de lectura literal. Comprensión de lectura inferencial. ... Hacer inferencias para comprender el propósito del autor en un texto. ... es necesario

The hamburger has no connection with ham. It got its name from the German town of Hamburg, which was famous for its ground steak. German immigrants to the United States introduced the ‘hamburger steak’. Then, the introduction of the bun was an important part of the answer. Another important part is McDonald’s, one of the world’s most famous fast food restaurants.

You can find them in Japan, Germany, Panama, Guatemala, Australia, Portugal, Hong Kong and even Moscow. In fact, there are 13,000 in 120 countries. There’s even a floating McDonald’s in St. Louis, Mississippi, and another in Alaska. The first McDonald’s was opened in Des Plaines, Illinois, and is now a museum.

What makes American fast food so popular?

Lee Cho, a South Korean, says: “I often go to MacDonald’s. It’s clean, less expensive than other restaurants and saves time.”

Natalia Petrovna, a girl from Moscow, says “I find the hamburgers very tasty and the sundaes with caramel sauce are out of this world”

Karen Smith, from Frankfurt: “MacDonald’s is our favourite meeting point. We can sit there and talk for hours in a friendly atmosphere. There are lots of young people around. The food is cheap and the milkshakes…yum…”

Older people are very critical of this sort of food. Lots of young people in the USA are overweight and parents blame these high-calorie foods that their children gobble up in large quantities.

1. What is the author trying to do in this text?

A. Convince people to buy American fast foodB. Prove that people don’t listen to advice about fast foodC. Write the timeline of the hamburgerD. Convince doctors to eat fast food

2. It can be understood from the text that…

A. American fast food is popular all over the worldB. Some doctors don’t eat fast foodC. People find interesting to eat high-calorie foodD. Lots of older people are overweight

3. Someone who is suffering from obesity must…

A. Eat a lot of high-calorie foodB. Go to the most famous fast food restaurantsC. Avoid eating fast food and listen to the doctors’ adviceD. Go to McDonald’s with the doctor

4. How was the hamburger brought to USA?A. Americans introduced the “hamburger steak”B. McDonalds created it in HamburgC. Americans introduced itD. It was brought by German immigrants

5. Why is American fast food so popular?
