Readings-The Year of Grace Page 2 Lecturas de la Semana-El año de gracia

Sunday: Wis 1:13-15; 2:23-24; Ps 30:2, 4-6, 11-13; 2 Cor 8:7, 9, 13-15; Mk 5:21-43 [5:21-24, 35b-43] Because of sin, sickness and death have entered the world, but are overcome through the resurrection of Jesus. He hears the cry of those in need, healing the sick and raising the dead to life. He made himself poor that we might become rich. Monday: Am 2:6-10, 13-16; Ps 50:16bc-23; Mt 8:18-22 Amos speaks out against idolatry and social injustice. Jesus speaks of the demands of discipleship. Tuesday: Eph 2:19-22; Ps 117:1bc, 2; Jn 10:24-29 Our faith is built upon the apostles who saw the risen Lord and proclaimed his resurrection. Wednesday: Am 5:14-15, 21-24; Ps 50:7-13, 16bc-17; Mt 8:28-34 or, for Independence Day, any readings from the Mass “For the Country or a City,” nos. 882-886, or “For Peace and Justice,” nos. 887-891 Jesus confronts the power of evil. Israel is summoned to abandon her evil ways and to seek justice for all. Thursday: Am 7:10-17; Ps 19:8-11; Mt 9:1-8 Amos speaks of the judgement of the Lord, thus incurring the opposition of the royal prophets. Jesus, too, is opposed, being accused of Blasphemy. Friday: Am 8:4-6, 9-12; Ps 119:2, 10, 20, 30, 40, 131; Mt 9:9-13 Amos condemns the hypocrisy of the rich who have strayed from the Lord, preferring empty sacrifice to mercy. Saturday: Am 9:11-15; Ps 85:9ab, 10-14; Mt 9:14-17 The promised restoration of God’s people is fulfilled n Jesus, who heralds messianic times. Sunday: Ez 2:2-5; Ps 123:1-4; 2 Cor 12:7-10; Mk 6:1-6a Jesus is met with misgivings and rejections by his own relatives. Like them, we often resist the prophetic word because of an obstinacy of heart, rooted in a self-pride which must give way to weakness and powerlessness.

DID YOU KNOW?

Recently, abuse against women has been thrust into the public spotlight, with the “Me Too” movement. It is important for parents/caregivers be aware of risks to girls and risks to boys. Boys and girls both need to be educated on what’s acceptable and what’s inappropriate, and how to react if someone does something that crosses the line. It is important for adults to reinforce the message that we must all look for, identify, and call attention to the risky behavior exhibited by any adult toward any child.
