ecently members of Squadron 47 got the fantastic opportunity to take a tour of March Air Reservase. March is an extremely historic base with close ties to a CAP Founding Father Hap Arnoho was Commander of March Field from 1931-36. Upon arrival, we boarded an Air Force bd traveled to the flight line. It was really fun to see all of the aircraft parked on the tarmac an

e were able to tour a C-17. Air Reserve Pilot Lief educated us on the C-17sfeatures inside ant. We got to explore the boom operator area and cockpit. Flight crew explained what itslike and complete their missions. Some cadets actually got down into the well where the Boo

perators sit. We were in awe of just how big the C-17 is. Next, we moved onto the Fepartment, a very modern facility with a very big mission. Not only do they have to be ready fes from aircraft mishaps, they also are trained in wildfire fighting - to help if with wild fires in thestern US. In the firehouse garage were massive fire trucks, prepared to depart at a momenttice. We watched a demonstration of the fire truck that is made to carry large loads of water anve nozzles they can aim from inside the truck, allowing them to spray water or foam directly fro

e truck. Fireman Sandvie told us what it takes to be a firefighter and what kinds of careers aailable for firefighters. Finally we got to see the Predator Drones. March ARB is one of the Maedator bases in the world. We viewed a presentation with videos of the Predators in actioross the world and learned what it takes to be a Predator pilot. After lunch, we proceeded to thmory where we met some Military Police and learned about the arsenal of weapons they use arsenal personnel must be extremely careful about checking in and out weapons. Theowed us a huge variety of hand guns and other weapons, both lethal and non-lethal. Th

structor went through each weapon and how/when it would be used by the MPs. They let uplore the different weapons with the instructors at hand to explain each.

d that ended our day. It was a fantastic tour and we thank our Senior members who made all trangements.

We have been invited to help out at the Oceanside Airport Associations annual BBQ at theceanside Airport (KOKB) on Saturday August 25, 2012 from noon until approximately 1500. Theent is a catered BBQ with antique car show and RC aircraft demonstration. Squadron 47 has

en invited to set up a recruiting booth at the event. The Oceanside Airport Association would alspreciate any assistance that we might be able to provide for event setup, clean up, and

Having additional cadets will allow everyone time to enjoy the event. Participantsl be responsible for their own lunch meal.

niforms for cadets marshaling cars will be BDUs and for the Cadets in the Recruiting Booth weould like to have you in Blues. It is also alright for Cadet who want to do both, marshal cars anowd control and work the Recruiting booth to wear BDUs in the booth.

you are interested in CyberPatriot V for 2012, I will be creating a distribution list foe team, prospects and those who would otherwise like to keep up with the

    appenings in detail.

yberPatriot is not about "hacking" the opponents, however that's not to say thendset won't help, "The best defense is a good offense", but your offense isowledge, of what to look for. CyberPatriot is about being resourceful, on the spotnking, both methodical and spontaneous. Knowledge of computer operatingstems is a major plus, but not required.

Official/Planned" group practices will most likely be a couple weeks after schoolarts up again so that people can see what their schedule will be like, though we

ould do some intermediate in early August, too. In the meantime, you've got plentytime for independent study, and I'm available for questions/answers, and such

uring meetings, email, etc. Questions/Answers will most likely be sent to everyoneho's participating so that we get those "un-asked" questions, too.

he first practice rounds utilizing the competition environment will be 1-12 October,nd we can do it several times within that period. A competition round is a 6 hourndow. Once you start, which ever happens first, 100% of the objectives are done,

    6 hours passes.

he first two rounds are roughly 2-3 Nov-12 and 30-Nov/1-Dec. Any time on thoseays, up-to 1500 local time on the second day, the round can start. After 1500 youe cutting into your own time because at 2100 the scoring system shuts down. It's

one. Starting after 1500 gives you a disadvantage. Once you start, there's noovision for pausing the clock.

he third round, depending on the outcome of the first two, will be 11-12 January, O2 February. The National Finals Competition, consisting of 12 division teams and

elect internationals / others, will be 14-15 March, and transportation will be provider 5 competitors. The Competition Team is FIVE cadets, for the local/onlineactices, we can have more, up to TEN.

Help House an Aircraft for Squadron 40

hawks Composite Squadron 47Civil Air Patrol 9

e need your assistance. Since being assigned N743CP, a C182T G1000 equipped aircraft; weve been conducting fundraising activities to keep it in a hanger instead of outside at Fullertonrport. This is the only CAP aircraft located in Orange County. It is one of the most active aircraft

California. It is used by aircrews from CAP Squadrons throughout Southern California for G-100oficiency and training flights, emergency services responses and O-rides for CAP Cadets. Wee pleased and honored to manage this aircraft for CAP but it entails a financial obligation that isbstantial.

ur member dues and occasional donations do not cover the hanger cost and other costs thatme up from time to time. So we have conducted golf fundraisers to make up the difference. Thiss worked well but we really need your units to participate in the activity in order to assure itsccess. This year our fundraiser is being enhanced to include a ball drop. The ball drop is a funtivity that can also generate significant CASH FOR YOUR SQUADRONSand generate widerrticipation in the fundraiser.

A SAFETY MINDSETlast quarters Bulletin I introduced the topic of Culture of Safety as a set of value

nd a system of trust between leadership and those in the trenches. I also mentioneow important such a culture is to California Wing and to the rest of CAP as a tool to

    aximize our mishap prevention effectiveness.

ontinuing the topic, there are considered to be five elements of such a culture.hese are:

    1. Reporting (workforce willingly reports errors/deficiencies)2. Just (atmosphere of trust encourages people to provide essential safetyinfo)

    3. Informed (there is current knowledge about human, technical, organizationaland environmental factors)4. Learning (people reach correct conclusions from safety information)5. Flexible (people adapt effectively to the demands of technical problems anadaptive challenges)

ound good? Creating and maintaining such a culture requires deep commitment

om the managers and those they manage. More on making it happen in nextuarters Safety Bulletin. Please keep Safety in mind at all times.ritten By: Mike Watkins, Lt. Col. CAP, CAWG SE
