If you are talking about what something is, use “ser”.If you are talking about how something is, use “estar”.

When a noun follows the verb, use “ser”When ‘en’ (at, in, on) follows the verb, use “estar”

To tell where something is from (de), use “ser”To tell where something is located now, use “estar”
