Second Collection

This weekend, November 17 and 18, the second collection will be for Catholic Campaign for Human Development. Help break the cycle of poverty by funding community programs that encourage independence.

Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will not pass away. It is heartbreaking and frightening to hear about the effects of natural disasters, such as the wildfires that afflict our state (and many other lands). It is even harder to hear about deadly incidents such as the shooting in Thousand Oaks, disas-ters that are inflicted by human anger and hatred. Bishop Robert Barron writes: “In times like these we often feel powerless, which too often leads to anger. The anti-dote is both prayer and charity.” We have to believe in the power of our actions for the good, our

attempts to change our society, or simply to reach one hurting heart. Jesus said, “As often as you did it to one of these least ones, you did it for me.” May He help us to be-lieve in these words, and the pow-er of His Love which shall not pass away.

May the Lord give you all the blessings you need and a grace-filled Thanksgiving Day. Please join us for Mass this Thursday, for the Eucharist is the greatest act of Thanksgiving we can ever make. May the Lord give you peace!

NOVEMBER

Evangelization – The Mission of Reli-gious. That consecrated religious men and women may bestir themselves, and be present among the poor, the margin-alized, and those who have no voice.

Did you know? Get your family on the same page about social media. Social media is one of the leading forms of communication and con-nection in our world today, but it has dangerous side effects if used carelessly or improperly. Social me-dia platforms can be used to solicit minors, distribute drugs, share por-nography and more. If your family does not have a social media safety policy in place, work to establish one immediately. Rules such as no direct messages from anyone you don’t know in person and no private or hidden contact with anyone are important. Establish regular check-ins to make sure that the rules are being followed to see what your children are viewing.

ENCOURAGEMENT

This Sunday’s Gospel is our final selec-tion from Mark for this liturgical year. It is taken from the end of Jesus’ teaching in Jeru-salem immediately preceding the account of his arrest and passion. In it Jesus gives his disciples hope to sustain them through his passion and death and any persecution or suf-fering that they would encounter after his resurrection.

The words from the book of Daniel also provided hope and encouragement to the peo-ple of Daniel’s time. The encouragement in these scriptures is meant for us as well, for none of us will escape tribulation in our lives. Followers of Jesus will be able to endure suf-fering with joyful hope, knowing that Christ’s love will lead us along the way of discipleship and give us eternal life with God.
