Newspaper In Education

Thinking Outside the Book

Page 2: NIE Presentation

What is NIE?NIE (Newspaper In Education) is a nationally

recognized collaboration between corporate and community sponsors, local newspapers and schools providing students with the opportunity to become more literate and knowledgeable citizens.

The Newspaper In Education (NIE) program of the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, The Sun, and the Redlands Daily Facts is designed to assist today’s educators by integrating the skills taught in the classroom: reading, writing, math, science, geography, critical thinking and life skills through the use of the newspaper as an educational material.

Our mission is dedicated to promoting literacy and developing useful and meaningful educational materials that are academically relevant to the students’ daily lives.

Benefits of NIE : Teachers receive class sets of sponsor-paid

newspapers delivered to their school,

packed with news and information relevant

to every grade level and subject area.

We also offer student tours and teacher

workshops to help guide teachers

with using the newspaper in their

classrooms as a teaching tool.

The newspaper is a real world

supplement to traditional

classroom resources that is

updated everyday!
