Dr. Xabier Irujo, director of the William
A. Douglass Center for Basque Studies at
the University of Nevada, Reno, will kick
off the BCC’s August festival on Saturday-
with a book presentation. 2017 marks
the 80th anniversary of the bombing of
Gernika and Mr. Irujo will present his
book Gernika 1937: The Market Day
Massacre. The event will be on Satur-
day, August 26th at 3:00pm.
Euskal Etxeko Jaialdia 1917
On September 24, 1988 the Basque Cultural Center held its first an-
nual barbecue attracting large groups of Basque Americans from Fres-
no, Bakersfield, Chino, Nevada and Idaho all coming to the Bay Area
to enjoy the last Basque picnic of the year! Initially called
Udazkeneko Besta (Autumn fest), the name evolved to Euskal Etxeko
Jaialdia (Basque Cultural Center Festival) in 1999.
On the right BCC Directors Valerie Arrechea and Joe Goyhenetche
capture a bit of the homeland’s traditional festival dress code—white
shirt, red scarf and jeans!
Since it was first announced in 1997 everyone is encouraged to wear
Euskal Herria’s traditional festival dress code at the BCC’s Jaialdia!
Looking forward to seeing everyone in their jeans, white shirt
and red scarf!!
The 40th Annual Global Mus Finals will be held from August 25th through September 3rd, be-
ginning at the Basque Cultural Center with the finals in Chino, California.
