    COEUR D ALENE

    AFTER THE REIGN

This is Coeur DAlene, ID when gas

prices reach $7/gallon in the year 2035.

The north Idaho town is an established

    tourist community that is threatened

    ,

suburbs. The town is composed o

    several planned developments and a

    resort community. Our design solution

is a sustainable system that relies on

    community rather than technological

    SKETCHES

    CONCEPTS & EXAMINATIONS

I make sense o the world through the

    extension of my hands.

The creative process is a cocktail of

instinct, skill, culture and a highly creative

feverishness. It is not like a drug; it is a

    particular state when everything appens

very quickly, a mixture of consciousness

and unconsciousness, of f ar and

pleasure; its a little like making llove, the

physical act of love.-Franc s Bacon

    SERPENTINE PAVILION

1 DAY CHARETTE WITH ARUP ASSOCIATESThe basic principle of sustainability is

the concept o adaption vs. mitigation.

    This proposed pavilion physically

    demonstrates these two opposing

    concepts towards the greater

population of London. On one side, the large central door can be easily

moved as more people in habit the

space mitigate . n the other side

the people are forced to adapt to the

c ua ngspa a con ons- ey ave

    control of their environment and

st adapt to what is given to them.

    PIONEER SQUARE

    HOMELESS ASSITANCE SHELTER

Positioned along the original skid road, the corner o

Yesler Way & Western Ave, this is a community center

that combines the residents, commuters, tourists,

homeless o Pioneer quare, with the process o

preparing homeless residents or independence.Historically, this location is the convergence of Seattles

pper-class with a lower, poorer class. Today, Pioneer

Square continues to withstand this relationship

between various social groups: the homeless, drug

    dealers, neighborhood residents, tourists,commuters,

business owners. This neighborhood needs a place

for interaction between this diverse set of user types to

strengthen the growing social relationships that couldmake this area a thriving neighborhood.Communal

spaces are woven through pods (supported by a

modular, tensegrity steel frame). The pods respond

to signi cant moments along the process o adusting

from being homeless to returning to the social norm

of living. Social interaction occurs spontaneously

between, on top, & underneath these pods allowing

for informal and meaningful relationships to occur-learning is not only through the programs offered, but

also throu h social su ort.
