GIVING THE DATE IN SPANISH (DAYS AND MONTHS)

Hoy es lunes, el siete de abril.

Today is Monday, the seventh of April.

**Notice the words in bold are the day, number, and month. When giving dates, follow this

pattern and just change the day, number, and month.

**The only one that will be different is the first of the month. Example:

Hoy es martes, el primero de marzo.

Today is Tuesday, the first of March.

**Days and months are not capitalized in Spanish like they are in English.

Use any of the following weather expressions to answer this question.

Hace calor. It’s hot

Hace frío. It’s cold

Hace fresco. It’s cool

Llueve. It rains.

Nieva. It snows.

Hace sol. It is sunny.

Está nevando. It is snowing.

Está lloviendo. It is raining.

Está nublado/Hay nubes. It is cloudy/There are clouds.

Hace viento. It is windy.

Hace buen tiempo. It’s good weather.

Hace mal tiempo. It’s bad weather.

Here are a few other expressions:

Hay relámpago. There is lightning.

Hay trueno. There is thunder.

Hay un arco iris. There is a rainbow.

Usted-you formal

(Use usted with people you want to show respect to, such as people older than you, your doctor,

Every time you ask someone a question directly, there are two ways to ask (formal or informal).

How you address them is based on your relationship to that person.

Example: What’s your name?

¿Cómo te llamas? What is your name? (informal)

¿Cómo se llama usted? What is your name? (formal)

Once you have met a person, you often will ask them how they are doing.

There are many different ways to respond to this question. Here are a few examples:

Estoy así así. I am so so.

Estoy terrible. I am terrible.

Estoy cansado(male)/Estoy cansada (female) I am tired.

Estoy emocionado(male)/Estoy emocionada (female) I am excited.
