From Fr. Davy’s Desk: We continue our Lenten journey with our special observances of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. This third Sunday of Lent we meditate upon the story of the encounter of Jesus with the Samaritan woman at a well. Every time when I reflect upon this Gospel passage I ask often, “Why did this woman make such a radical change so quickly?” Jesus asks the Samaritan woman for assistance, drinking water. When he offered her water that would quench her thirst for eternity she got inter-ested. During the conversation, Jesus told her that He knew she was living with a man outside of marriage. Jesus could read her mind. She was impressed and that caused to change her life. Jesus looked at her as a person. He spoke to her heart and her heart turned to Him. She came to know that she can be a better person. The well became confessional. She enjoyed water, the grace that quenched her thirst for worldly pleasure and sin. Transformation happened to the woman at the well. Jesus wanted her to be the best person she could be. Her confession at the well helped her to change her life and she proclaimed Jesus as the Messiah. This happens during every confession. That’s why we go to confession. We experience the love of Jesus. His love and forgiveness transform us. The transformation invites us to a mission to proclaim Jesus as the Messiah. During the season of Lent let us have the thirst to approach the well, to con-fess our sins and quench our thirst. Eighteen of our young adults are preparing for Confirmation this Saturday, March 25, feast of the annunciation. Let them filled with the gifts and the fruits of the Holy Spirit be the beacons of the good news and peace! Fr. Padre Kavungal Davy, CMI
