Mississauga, a suburb o oronto, is like

many ringe towns in that it is growing in

    relation to its neighboring metropolitan

area, though it does not have any architectural

precedents or this growth. At around 734,000residents, the city is in demand o residential property.

o win the rst international design competition held

in the oronto area in over 40 years, the architect put

orth a radical design or a curving and biologically-

inspired design. When the tower project was proposed

to the public, initially with only one tower, the scheme

was so popular that the units sold out just days aferthe release o the building plans. Afer this response,

the owner decided to buy an adjacent plot and build a

second tower to meet the demand.

While the typology o the skyscraper, typically a

glass box, is usually associated with a large city, many

suburban areas are now experiencing expansion whichrequires the implementation o high-rise buildings.

Helmut Jahn, who has been a quiet leader in the

field of architecture for more than 30 years, has made

elegant, finely detailed and sustainable buildings his

trademark. Though his firm has been known to put out

iconic landmarks, he can just as easily turn out a strictly-
