• A wave function describes all of the possible states that such particles can have, including properties like energy, momentum, and position.
• The wave function is a combination of all of the possible wave functions that exist
• A wave function for a particle says there's some probability that it can be in any allowed position.
![Page 5: La paradoja del gato de Schrödinger](https://reader036.vdocuments.co/reader036/viewer/2022082715/56815f2f550346895dcdfc6a/html5/thumbnails/5.jpg)
Los motivos
• But you can't necessarily say you know that it's in a particular position without observing it.
• Ej: If you put an electron around the nucleus, it can have any of the allowed states or positions, unless we look at it and know where it is.
• In any physical system, without observation, you cannot say what something is doing.
• You have to say it can be any of these things it can be doing—even if the probability is small.
hasta el momento de poder observarlo.• The cat would be either dead or alive long before
the box is opened by a conscious observer.
Las interpretaciones• Multiverse = Many Worlds• The idea that all possible alternate histories of the universe
actually exist. At every point in time, the universe splits into a multitude of existences in which every possible outcome of each quantum process actually happens.
• What this idea lacks is a testable prediction that would help physicists distinguish it experimentally from other theories of the universe experiments but we actually follow only one.
![Page 13: La paradoja del gato de Schrödinger](https://reader036.vdocuments.co/reader036/viewer/2022082715/56815f2f550346895dcdfc6a/html5/thumbnails/13.jpg)
Las interpretaciones• This implies that there are an infinite number of universes, or
at least a very large number of them.• The reason many physicists love the many worlds idea is that
it explains away all the strange paradoxes of quantum mechanics.
• In the first place, the quantum process that may or may not kill it is in a superposition of states, so the cat must be in a superposition too: both alive and dead at the same time.
• That’s clearly bizarre but in the many worlds interpretation, the paradox disappears: the cat dies in one universe and lives in another.
