A movement in barcelona expressed through art, architecture and literature. Main characteristics of Modernisme art involves eclecticism, arts and crafts, and revival of the Catalan culture in order to produce a new, distinct style of

art. It is also known as Art Nouveau in France.

The Catalans Fight Back

1. Promoted general strikes to unite the entire working population, regardless of class or immigration status.

2. Urged participation in the Spanish Federation of Workers' Resistance Societies (FSORE), led by predominantly textile and metal workers.

December 1901Barcelona: Metal Workers’ Union set out to assert labor’s right to unionize and alleviate

widespread unemployment.

February 17Strike begins. Thousands

prevent trollies from leaving the Parallel district.

February 18Protesters try to block the train,

and then were attacked by cavalry. At night, the police

battled the people, opening fire at Parallel.

February 20Trollies resume service. Streets empty except for cavalry. More

shootouts in Barcelona.

February 21Protesters attack armed guards.

One dead, many wounded.

February 24Protesters go back to 10

hour work days.
