Primera Lectura: Hechos 1: 1-11: En mi primer libro, querido Teófilo, escribí acerca de todo lo que Jesús hizo y enseñó, hasta el día en que ascendió al cielo, después de dar sus instrucciones, por medio del Espí-ritu Santo, a los apóstoles que había elegido. A ellos se les apareció después de la pasión, les dio numerosas pruebas de que estaba vivo y durante cuarenta días se dejó ver por ellos y les habló del Reino de Dios. Un día, estando con ellos a la mesa, les mandó: “No se alejen de Jerusalén. Aguarden aquí a que se cumpla la promesa de mi Padre, de la que ya les he hablado: Juan bautizó con agua; dentro de pocos días ustedes serán bautizados con el Espíritu Santo”. Los ahí reunidos le preguntaban: “Señor, ¿ahora sí vas a restablecer la soberanía de Is-rael?” Jesús les contestó: “A ustedes no les toca conocer el tiempo y la hora que el Padre ha determinado con su autoridad; pero cuando el Espíritu Santo descienda sobre ustedes, los llenará de fortaleza y serán mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea, en Samaria y hasta los últi-mos rincones de la tierra”. Dicho esto, se fue elevando a la vista de ellos, hasta que una nube lo ocultó a sus ojos. Mientras miraban fija-mente al cielo, viéndolo alejarse, se les presentaron dos hombres vesti-dos de blanco, que les dijeron: “Galileos, ¿qué hacen allí parados, mi-rando al cielo? Ese mismo Jesús que los ha dejado para subir al cielo, volverá como lo han visto alejarse”. Palabra de Dios, Te alabamos, Señor

Segunda Lectura: Hebreos 9: 24-28, 10: 19-23: Hermanos: Cristo no entró en el santuario de la antigua alianza, construido por mano de hom-bres y que sólo era figura del verdadero, sino en el cielo mismo, para estar ahora en la presencia de Dios, intercediendo por nosotros. En la antigua alianza, el sumo sacerdote entraba cada año en el santuario para ofrecer una sangre que no era la suya; pero Cristo no tuvo que ofrecerse una y otra vez a sí mismo en sacrificio, porque en tal caso habría tenido que padecer muchas veces desde la creación del mundo. De hecho, él se manifestó una sola vez, en el momento culminante de la historia, para destruir el pecado con el sacrificio de sí mismo. Y así co-mo está determinado que los hombres mueran una sola vez y que des-pués de la muerte venga el juicio, así también Cristo se ofreció una sola vez para quitar los pecados de todos. Al final se manifestará por segun-da vez, pero ya no para quitar el pecado, sino para la salvación de aquellos que lo aguardan y en él tienen puesta su esperanza. Herma-nos, en virtud de la sangre de Jesucristo, tenemos la seguridad de po-der entrar en el santuario, porque él nos abrió un camino nuevo y vivien-te a través del velo, que es su propio cuerpo. Asimismo, en Cristo tene-mos un sacerdote incomparable al frente de la casa de Dios. Acerqué-monos, pues, con sinceridad de corazón, con una fe total, limpia la con-ciencia de toda mancha y purificado el cuerpo por el agua saludable. Mantengámonos inconmovibles en la profesión de nuestra esperanza, porque el que nos hizo las promesas es fiel a su palabra. Palabra de Dios, Te alabamos, Señor

Evangelio: Lucas 24: 46-53: En aquel tiempo, Jesús se apareció a sus discípulos y les dijo: “Está escrito que el Mesías tenía que padecer y había de resucitar de entre los muertos al tercer día, y que en su nom-bre se había de predicar a todas las naciones, comenzando por Jerusa-lén, la necesidad de volverse a Dios para el perdón de los pecados. Ustedes son testigos de esto. Ahora yo les voy a enviar al que mi Padre les prometió. Permanezcan, pues, en la ciudad, hasta que reciban la fuerza de lo alto”. Después salió con ellos fuera de la ciudad, hacia un lugar cercano a Betania; levantando las manos, los bendijo, y mientras los bendecía, se fue apartando de ellos y elevándose al cielo. First Reading: Acts 1: 1-11 In the first book, Theophilus, I dealt with all that Jesus did and taught until the day he was taken up, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles whom he had chosen. He presented him-self alive to them by many proofs after he had suffered, appearing to them during forty days and speaking about the kingdom of God. While meeting with them, he enjoined them not to depart from Jeru-salem, but to wait for “the promise of the Father about which you have heard me speak; for John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” When they had gath-ered together they asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” He answered them, “It is not for you to know the times or seasons that the Father has established by his own authority. But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.” When he had said this, as they were looking on, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him from their sight. While they were looking intently at the sky as he was going, suddenly two men dressed in white gar-ments stood beside them. They said, “Men of Galilee, why are you standing there looking at the sky? This Jesus who has been taken up from you into heaven will return in the same way as you have seen him going into heaven.” Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God

Second Reading: Hebrews 9: 24-28, 10: 19-23 Christ did not enter into a sanctuary made by hands, a copy of the true one, but heaven itself, that he might now appear before God on our behalf. Not that he might offer himself repeatedly, as the high priest enters each year into the sanctuary with blood that is not his own; if that were so, he would have had to suffer repeatedly from the foundation of the world. But now once for all he has ap-peared at the end of the ages to take away sin by his sacrifice. Just as it is appointed that men and women die once, and after this the judgment, so also Christ, offered once to take away the sins of many, will appear a second time, not to take away sin but to bring salvation to those who eagerly await him. Therefore, brothers and sisters, since through the blood of Jesus we have confidence of entrance into the sanctuary by the new and living way he opened for us through the veil, that is, his flesh, and since we have Aa great priest over the house of God, “ let us approach with a sincere heart and in absolute trust, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed in pure water. Let us hold unwa-veringly to our confession that gives us hope, for he who made the promise is trustworthy. Word of the Lord, Thanks be to God

And behold I am sending the promise of my Father upon you; but stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.” Then he led them out as far as Bethany, raised his hands, and blessed them. As he blessed them he parted from them and was taken up to heaven. They did him homage and then returned to Je-rusalem with great joy, and they were continually in the temple prais-ing God. REFLEXIÓN DOMINICAL / SUNDAY REFLECTION SER UNO CON EL SEÑOR

Saber que Jesús pensaba en nosotros, que nos tenía en mente y que oró por nosotros es importante y signifi-cativo. Lo que Jesús pidió al Padre en su oración fue básicamente una cosa: la unidad. Jesús forjó así un sacramento basado en las relaciones. Tal como Jesús y el Padre son uno, nosotros también debemos ser uno con el otro, de manera que por el testimonio de nues-tra unidad podamos mostrar al mundo cómo es el amor de Dios.

Su voluntad de unidad nos ofre-ce la oportunidad de ser testi-monio visible y tangible en el mundo; de demostrar a los de-más que el amor de Dios es real, comprometido, in-condicional, permanente y sacrificado, sin importar cuánto podamos haber pecado. Su oración por quie-nes creerán su mensaje a través de sus discípulos ilustra perfectamente la visión de transferir la Buena Nueva a la siguiente generación.

Cristo ora por la unidad de la Iglesia, para que nuestro testimonio en el mundo sea eficaz; para que el mundo vea el poder transformador del Evangelio en nuestras vidas; para que podamos, con una sola voz decir a todos: vengan al Señor, beban de las aguas de vida eterna.

Cuando el mundo ve nuestra unidad en el Espíritu, es-pecialmente aun cuando podamos estar en desacuer-do unos con otros sobre todo tipo de cosas, esa uni-dad será testimonio de que Cristo está en nosotros. Nuestra unidad demostrará que las palabras y la misión del Señor son verdaderas, y que ambas han venido del Padre.

Para la Reflexión Piensa en una ocasión en la que el gesto de algún amigo, cónyuge, padre u otra persona te reveló el amor de Dios. Aún si no fuiste consciente en ese mo-mento, ¿cómo representó este gesto la respuesta de Jesús a tus oraciones? ¿De qué manera tu entorno y tu adhesión con otros representan una respuesta a tus oraciones?

BEING ONE WITH THE LORD

Knowing that Jesus thought about us, kept us in his mind and prayed for us is important and significant. What Jesus asked his Father in prayer was basically one thing: unity. Jesus forged, in this way, a sacrament based on relationships. Just as Jesus and the Father are one, we must also be one with each other, in such a way that by the witness of our unity we can show the

world what God’s love is. His desire for unity offers us the opportunity to be visible and tangible witnesses in the world; to show others that the love of God is real, committed, uncondi-

tional and demanding, without concern for how much we may have sinned. His prayer for those who will believe in his message through his disciples perfectly illustrates the vision of transferring the Good News to the next generation. Christ prays for the Church’s unity, that our witness in the world be effective; that the world sees the trans-forming power of the Gospel in our lives; that we can, with one voice, tell everyone: come to the Lord, drink the waters of eternal life. When the world sees our unity in the Spirit, especially when we may disagree with one another on various things, this unity will be testimony that Christ is in us. Our unity will show that the words and mission of the Lord are true, and that both came from the Father. For Reflection Think of an occasion when the action of a friend, a spouse, a father or other people revealed to you God’s love. Even if you weren’t aware at the time, how did this act represent the answer of Jesus to your prayers? In what way does your environment and your bonding with others represent an answer to your prayers?

De Cuales Cargos Políticos Debería Preocuparme?

Las leyes son aprobadas por el Congreso, aplicadas por el Ejecutivo e interpretadas por el Poder Judi-cial. Esto quiere decir que debe analizar a cualquier candidato postulándose por un puesto en el Poder Legislativo, por el Poder Ejecutivo o a cualquier per-sona nominada para un tribunal. Esto no solo aplica a nivel nacional, sino que también a nivel estatal y local. Es verdad que a medida que el cargo sea de menor responsabilidad, menor será la probabilidad de que el funcionario trate algunos asuntos. Su ayuntamiento, por ejemplo, tal vez no vote sobre la legalidad del aborto pero quizás si trate temas rela-cionados con clínicas locales donde se practican abortos. Es importante que usted evalúe a los candidatos en cuanto a cada aspecto no-negociable que ellos deberán tra-tar en los cargos para los cuales se postulan.

Pocas personal obtienen altos cargos sin haber tenido antes un cargo menor. Which Political Offices Should I Worry About?

Laws are passed by the legislature, enforced by the executive branch, and interpreted by the judiciary. This means you should scrutinize any candidate for the legislature, anyone running for an executive office, and anyone nominated for the bench. This is true not only at the national level but also at the state and local levels. True, the lesser the office, the less likely the office holder will take up certain issues. Your city coun-cil, for example, will not vote on the legality of abortion, but may take up issues connected with local abortion clinics. It is important that you evaluate candidates in light of each non-

negotiable moral issue that will come before them in the offices they are seeking. Few people achieve high office without first holding a lower office. Some people become congressional repre-sentatives, senators, or presidents without having been elected to a lesser office. But most representatives, sena-tors, and presidents started their political careers at the local level. The same is true for state lawmakers. Most of them began on city councils and school boards and worked their way up the political ladder.

Seventh Sunday of Easter “The Ascension of the Lord”

As the liturgical year—and this Jubilee Year of Mercy—unfold, we reflect on what Jesus’ ascen-sion meant for the first disciples and means now for us. Stay in Jerusalem, Jesus had instructed, awaiting “the promise of the Father. In a few days

you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit. You will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, throughout Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth” (Acts 1:4–5, 8). Despite Jesus’ absence, they wait “with great joy . . . continually in the temple praising God” (Luke 24:52–53). But as we join them, waiting and worshiping, the enduring chal-lenge—theirs and ours—is delivered by “two men in white” (Acts 1:10). In every age, disciples must stop looking at the sky, head down the mountain, and go back into the world, “commissioned,” says Pope Fran-cis, “to announce the mercy of God, the beating heart of the Gospel,” inviting everyone to find “in our parish-es, communities, associations and movements . . . wherever there are Christians . . . an oasis of mer-cy” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12).

Séptimo Domingo de Pascua “La Ascensión del Señor”

Al ir transcurriendo este Año Litúrgico —y este Año Jubilar de la Misericordia—, reflexionamos en lo que significó para los primeros discípulos y lo que ahora sig-nifica para nosotros. Quédense en Jerusalén, lo ordenó Jesús, a que “esperaran la promesa del Padre . . . , uste-des serán bautizados con el Espíritu Santo dentro de pocos días . . . , cuando el Espíritu Santo venga sobre uste-des; serán mis testigos en Jerusalén, en toda Judea y Sama-ria, y hasta los confines de la tierra” (Hechos 1:4–5,8). Pese a la ausencia física de Jesús, ellos esperan “con gran alegría . . . orando continuamente en el Templo” (Lucas 24:52–53). Pero nosotros al unirnos a ellos, esperando y orando, en-frentamos los desafíos —los suyos y los nuestros— que nos dan “dos hombres vestidos en blanco” (Hechos 1:10). En cada época, los discípulos deben dejar de mirar al cielo y dirigirse al monte y de regreso al mundo, dice el Papa Fran-cisco, con “la misión de anunciar la misericordia de Dios, corazón palpitante del Evangelio”, invitando a cada persona a encontrar “en nuestras parroquias, en las comunidades, en las asociaciones y movimientos, en fin, dondequiera que haya cristianos, cualquiera debería poder encontrar un oasis de misericordia” (Misericordiae Vultus, 12).
