6.1. CONOCIMIENTO DE INGLS SUFICIENTE PARA LA TRADUCCINDIRECTA DE PUBLICACIONES NUTICAS EN INGLS

En este Captulo no se pretende proporcionar un curso acelerado de ingls,sino una aproximacin al vocabulario especfico que posibilite la comprensinde las publicaciones nuticas en ingls, por lo que se presupone un conocimien-to previo, mnimo, de este idioma.

5 19 17-21 Fresh breeze Moderate waves, taking a more pronounced long form; many whitehorses are formed. (Chance of some spray.)

6 24 22-27 Strong breeze Large waves begin to form; the white foam crests are more extensiveeverywhere. (Probably some spray.)

7 30 28-33 Near gale Sea heaps up and white foam breaking waves begins to be blown instreaks along the direction of the wind.

8 37 34-40 Gale Moderately-high waves of greater length; edges of crests begin tobreak into spindrift. The foam is blown in well-marked streaks alongthe direction of the wind.

9 44 41-47 Strong gale High waves. Dense streaks of foam along the direction of the wind.Crests of waves begin to topple, tumble and roll over. Spray mayaffect visibility.

6.2. RECEPCIN Y TRANSMISIN DE MENSAJES USANDO LAS FRASES DEL STANDARD MARINE NAVIGATIONALVOCABULARY DE LA O.M.I.

Existe una publicacin de la O.M.I. denominada Standard Marine Naviga-tional Vocabulary (en castellano: Vocabulario Normalizado de Navegacin Ma-rtima), a la que aqu nos referiremos segn se exige en el programa para la ob-tencin del ttulo de Capitn de Yate (O.M. 17.06.1997; B.O.E. 03.07.1997).

PROCEDIMIENTO / INDICADORES DE MENSAJE

Si es necesario indicar que se van a utilizar frases del Vocabulario Normali-zado O.M.I., se pueden enviar los siguientes mensajes:

Si es necesario, los mensajes de comunicacin del buque con el exterior po-drn ir precedidos de los siguientes indicadores:

QUESTION (PREGUNTA): indica que el mensaje que sigue es de carcterinterrogativo.

ANSWER (RESPUESTA): indica que el mensaje que sigue constituye la res-puesta a una pregunta anterior.

REQUEST (PETICIN): indica que en el mensaje que sigue se pide a otrosque tomen medidas en relacin con el buque.

INFORMATION (INFORMACIN): indica que el mensaje que sigue se re-fiere nicamente a hechos observados.

INTENTION (INTENCIN): indica que en el mensaje que sigue se va a co-municar a otros medidas relativas a la navegacin que se tiene intencinde tomar inmediatamente.

WARNING (AVISO): indica que en el mensaje que sigue se informa de lapresencia de peligros a otros participantes en el trfico.

ADVICE (RECOMENDACIN): indica que el mensaje que sigue entraa laintencin del que emite de influir en quien(es) lo reciba(n) haciendo unarecomendacin.

INSTRUCTION (INSTRUCCIN): indica que el mensaje que sigue entraala intencin del que emite de influir en quien(es) lo reciba(n) invocandouna regla.

REPETICIN

Si se estima que cualesquiera partes del mensaje necesitan por su importan-cia precauciones adicionales, se utilizar la palabra: repeat (repito).

Ejemplo:

You will load 160, repeat, 160 tons bunkers.(Usted cargar 160, repito, 160 toneladas de combustible)

SITUACIN

Cuando se utilice la latitud y la longitud, stas se expresarn en grados y mi-nutos (y dcimas de minuto, si fuese necesario), al Norte o al Sur del Ecuador yal Este o al Oeste de Greenwich, respectivamente.

Ejemplo:

There are salvage operations in position: 15 degrees 34 minutes north, 61 de-grees 29 minutes west.(Hay operaciones de salvamento en situacin: 15 grados, 34 minutos Norte,61 grados 29 minutos Oeste)

Cuando la situacin est relacionada con una marca, sta ser un objeto bien de-finido que figure en las cartas nuticas. La demora se expresar en la notacin de360 grados desde el Norte verdadero y ser la del buque, a partir de la marca.

RUMBOS

Se expresarn en la notacin de 360 grados desde el Norte (Norte verdadero,a menos que se indique otra cosa). Se podr indicar si el rumbo se da en direc-cin a (to) o a partir de (from) una marca.

DEMORAS

La demora de la marca o del buque de que se trate es la demora expresadaen la notacin de 360 grados a partir del Norte (Norte verdadero, a menos quese indique otra cosa), excepto en el caso de demoras relativas o marcaciones.Las demoras podrn expresarse a partir de la marca o a partir del buque.

Ejemplos:

The pilot boat is bearing 215 from you.(La embarcacin del prctico demora 215 a partir de usted)

Your bearing is 127 from the signal station.(Su demora es de 127 a partir de la estacin de seales)

Los buques que sealen su situacin citarn siempre su demora a partir de lamarca, tal como se han indicado anteriormente.Las marcaciones (o demoras relativas) podrn expresarse en grados a partirde la proa del buque. Por lo general esto se expresa indicando tambin labanda de babor o estribor, segn proceda.

Ejemplo:

The buoy is 030 on your port bow.(La boya est 030 por babor)

Las marcaciones radiogoniomtricas se expresan, generalmente, en la nota-cin de 360.

DISTANCIAS

Preferiblemente se expresarn en millas nuticas o cables (dcimas de mi-lla). Tambin podrn expresarse en kilmetros o metros, debiendo indicarsesiempre la unidad empleada.

VELOCIDAD

Se expresar en nudos (millas por hora):

a) sin ninguna otra notacin significar velocidad de superficie; ob) se indicar ground speed (velocidad de fondo) para indicar que la veloci-

dad est referida al fondo marino.

NMEROS

Los nmeros se expresarn as:

One-five-zero for 150.Uno-cinco-cero para 150.

Two point five for 2.5.Dos coma decimal cinco para 2,5.

NOMBRES GEOGRFICOS

Los nombres de los lugares utilizados sern los expresados en las cartas oderroteros en uso. Si stos no resultan comprensibles, se darn la latitud y lalongitud.

HORA

Las horas se expresarn en la notacin de 24 horas, indicando si se trata dehora universal UTC, del huso horario o de la hora local de la estacin terrestre.

NOTA: En los casos no comprendidos en las frases anteriores regir la prc-tica normal de la radiotelefona.

6.2.2. Parte II. Glosario

GENERAL

Arrastre del ancla (Dredging anchor): se produce cuando el buque goberna-do se mueve arrastrando el ancla sobre el fondo del mar.

Buque impedido (Hampered vessel): un buque cuya capacidad de maniobraest restringida por la naturaleza de su trabajo.

Buque que cruza (Vessel crossing): buque que cruza un paso, una via de cir-culacin o una derrota.

Buque que evoluciona (Vessel turning): buque que est haciendo un ampliocambio de rumbo, como cuando se aproa a la marea para fondear, o alentrar o salir de un puesto de atraque o de una drsena.

Buque que sale a la mar (Vessel leaving): buque que est abandonando unpuesto de atraque o un fondeadero. (Cuando haya entrado en un canal de

paso se le citar como buque que va hacia fuera, que va de entrada, quecruza, o que evoluciona).

Buque que va hacia dentro (Vessel inward): buque que, procedente de lamar, se dirige a un puerto o una drsena.

Buque que va hacia fuera (Vessel outward): buque que, procedente de puertoo de un fondeadero, se dirige a la mar.

Calado (Draught): distancia mxima, si no se especifica otra cosa, desde laflotacin hasta el fondo del buque.

Correccin (Correction): se ha cometido un error en esta transmisin; laversin correcta es ...

Engelamiento (Icing): formacin de hielo en los buques.Enredada/encepada (ancla) (Foul (anchor)): el ancla se ha enredado/en-

cepado en su propia cadena o ha quedado apresada en una obstruc-cin.

Enredada (hlice) (Foul (propeller)): se ha enredado un cabo, cable, red,etc., en la hlice.

Establecida (Established): puesta en servicio, emplazada en posicin.ETA (Estimated Time of Arrival): hora estimada de llegada.ETD (Estimated Time of Departure): hora estimada de salida.Fondeadero (Anchor position): lugar donde un buque determinado ha fon-

deado o va a fondear.Garreo del ancla (Dragging (of anchor)): ancla que, sin el propsito de que

esto ocurra, se mueve sobre el fondo del mar porque ha dejado de impe-dir el movimiento del buque.

Guinda (Air draught): altura de la parte ms alta de la estructura del buquepor encima de la flotacin; v.g.: radar, chimenea, gras, tope del palo.

Inactivo (Inoperative): dcese de lo que no est funcionando.Instalacin mar adentro (Offshore installation): cualquier estructura mar

adentro (v.g. una plataforma de sondeo, una plataforma de produccin,etc.) que pueda representar un peligro para la navegacin.

Marca (Mark): trmino general que designa una marca de navegacin, comouna boya, una estructura o un accidente topogrfico que cabe utilizarpara fijar la situacin del buque.

Paso (Fairway): parte navegable de una via de navegacin.Punto de control de derrota (Way Point): marca o punto en que se exige a un

buque que comunique, a fin de establecer su situacin. (Llamado tam-bin punto de notificacin o punto de llamada).

Punto de llamada (Calling-in-point: C.I.P.): vase Punto de control de de-rrota (Way Point).

Punto de notificaciN (Reporting point): vase Punto de control de derrota(Way Point).

ESTABLECIMIENTO Y MANTENIMIENTO DE CONTACTO

1. All ships (in ... area)

Llamada general: se solicita que todos los buques que reciban esta transmi-sin (o solo aquellos que la reciban en la zona martima especificada) escuchenel mensaje que sigue.

Todos los buques (o solo los que se encuentran en la zona especificada) es-cucharn el mensaje. Si se trata de contactar un buque desconocido, ste deberresponder en la forma habitual.

Antes de transmitir un mensaje por un canal determinado de VHF debecomprobarse que no est siendo utilizado.

Para evitar interrumpir a otros y saber cmo proceder al ser interrumpidos porparte de otros, es necesario conocer el orden de prioridad de las comunicaciones.

Si el canal de VHF seleccionado est siendo utilizado para una comunica-cin de mayor prioridad debe esperarse a que dicha comunicacin finalice obien usar otro canal de VHF.
