The handbook I use (the best I can) as the parochial administrator of St. Philip the Apostle

Catholic Church is The Joy of the Gospel. It is a masterpiece. In his Apostolic Exhortation, Pope

Francis reminds us that we are all missionary disciples. Disciples need nourishment and one

source of that sustenance, alongside the Holy Eucharist, is the Word of God. The Holy

Father writes, The study of the sacred Scriptures must be a door open to every believer. It is

essential that the revealed word radically enrich our catechesis and all our efforts to pass on the faith. Evangelization demands familiarity with Gods word, which calls for dioceses, parishes

and Catholic associations to provide for a serious, ongoing study of the Bible, while encouraging its prayerful individual and

communal readings. We do not blindly seek God, or wait for him to speak to us first, for

God has already spoken, and there is nothing further that we need to now, which has not been

revealed to us Let us receive the sublime treasure of the of the revealed word (Joy of the Gospel, #175). I invite you to respond to this

urgent call from Pope Francis to study the Word of God and join us for our study of the Gospel of John beginning on Monday, January 29. You

may also bring snacks (cheese, crackers, etc) and wine to share with the community. And why

not?? This is the Gospel that tells us about Jesus changing water into wine at the

Wedding Feast of Cana!!! This is a wonderful opportunity to enjoy one an-

others company and continue the journey of knowing and following Jesus in the communion

of the Church.
