FULMORE MIDDLE SCHOOL
HUMANITIES AND LAW MAGNET FOR INTERNATIONAL STUDIES
Dear Prospective Applicant: Thank you for your interest in the Fulmore Magnet Program. The Fulmore Magnet Program is an advanced academic program with limited enrollment. Our program, consisting of over four hundred magnet students from all around the Austin area, is part of a 131 year old Fulmore tradition. Authorized by Austin Independent School District's school board in 2001, Fulmore's Humanities and Law Magnet for International Studies was one of Austin's best kept secrets; it’s not so secret anymore! Enrollment includes 52% identified Gifted and Talented students. We identify sixth grade students and seventh grade students for the Duke Talent Search Program. Smaller than its contemporaries, Fulmore's Magnet Program offers personalization for students and a variety of elective choices that correspond with the specialties of the program. The three distinctive strands in law, humanities, and international studies form the basis for our electives in areas for which Fulmore is well-known. Magnet students enroll in language arts, social studies, introduction to law, and introduction to humanities courses designed for Magnet students only. These courses are engaging, literacy rich, and move at an accelerated pace. Concepts in English Language Arts and social studies are intertwined to support students in making deep connections about the world around them. Magnet electives, while populated primarily by magnet students, are open to all Falcons. Fulmore Magnet students also enjoy challenging math and science classes including Environmental Science, Forensic Science, High School level Algebra I and Geometry. Magnet students are asked to participate in at least 10 hours of service to their communities per year and to engage in at least two of the many academic or extracurricular competitions available to all Falcons. These activities build a sense of civic responsibility, engage students in the Fulmore community, and support students in building strong resumes. Fulmore offers a variety of after school clubs where students have the opportunity to make friends from all walks of life. Free late buses depart from Fulmore at 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday so that Magnet students can participate in all after school activities. AISD provides bus transportation for any student accepted to Fulmore Magnet who lives within AISD boundaries. What makes Fulmore special? Parents say that Fulmore provides a comfortable environment where students are free to explore their strengths and discover more about who they are and in what they believe. The Application Checklist will help you organize your materials. These application materials will allow us to assess your qualifications and predict your potential success in our program. All information must be completed, signed and returned by 4:00 p.m. on Friday February 2nd, 2018. We encourage current AISD students to apply online through the AISD Parent Cloud. Families using the AISD Parent Cloud will have student grades and STAAR scores pulled by the district. Families applying from out of AISD or who do not use the Parent Cloud to apply will need to use the paper application and provide grades and STAAR scores. Please note that all families must show proof of residence in AISD boundaries within 45 days of the application deadline. The Fulmore Magnet faculty and I look forward to receiving your completed application. If you need any assistance in completing this application, please call 512-841-4916 and we will be happy to help you. On March 9th we will mail you information about the status of your application to the Magnet Program. Sincerely, Leigh Northcutt-Benson Director of Magnet Program

ESCUELA MEDIANA FULMORE
PROGRAMA AVANZADO DE HUMANIDADES Y LEYES PARA ESTUDIOS INTERNACIONALES
Estimado futuro solicitante:

REQUEST TO SHADOW AT FULMORE (OPTIONAL REQUEST)
Students applying to Fulmore’s Magnet Program may accompany (shadow) a Magnet student and attend their classes for a half day
between January 8 and January 30, 2018. At Fulmore we shadow on a Monday, Tuesday, or Friday as those are the days when our
students have all eight classes. The Magnet office will email or call you to confirm receipt of your request and confirm the date of
visitation. Slots are given to students on a first come, first served basis. On your confirmed shadow date, please arrive by 8:00 a.m. or
11:30 a.m. Sign in at the main office and we will take your student to their shadow host. Students shadowing during morning sessions
will most likely not eat lunch at Fulmore however, afternoon session students may bring a lunch or purchase lunch for $2.75 in the
cafeteria.
Students will be paired with a Falcon student host for half a day. The host will take the student to observe the unique classes that only
Fulmore has to offer. All guest students will be delivered to the front of the school at the end of their shadowing session. Please make
sure your child is picked up on time in front of the school (flag pole) area on Breckenridge and Mary Streets.
The student MUST turn in the following by 4:00 p.m. DECEMBER 15, 2017 in order to shadow:
➢ Students must turn in page 6 of the application packet signed by parent and student.
➢ Students must turn in page 7 (this form) with three dates circled and the session of your choice.
➢ Students must turn in teacher recommendations (pages 8 & 9) and STAAR or other testing scores.
Students must inform their current school of their plans to shadow at Fulmore prior to the day of shadowing. Fulmore will provide
students with a letter verifying their half day spent at Fulmore, which students will need to submit to their current school upon their
return for attendance purposes.
Because Fulmore is committed to providing the best possible shadowing experience for every student, we must limit the number of
students who shadow on any particular day. Therefore, students may or may not receive their first choice of dates. Also, due to the high
demand for this opportunity, students who need to cancel or forget to come on their appointed day may not be given the chance to
reschedule. Finally, Fulmore does not conduct admissions testing during shadowing.
Submit your request directly to our campus via email, fax, online or mail to Fulmore Middle School; Magnet Office; 201 E. Mary St.,
