CÉLULA PRESENTADORA DE ANTÍGENO
• Las células presentadoras de antígeno (CPA, o por sus siglas en Inglés: APC)
• Son un grupo diverso de células del sistema inmunitario cuya función es la de captar, procesar y, presentar moléculas antigénicas sobre sus membranas para que sean reconocidos, en especial por linfocitos T. El resultado de la interacción entre una CPA y un linfocito T correspondiente inicia las respuestas inmunitarias antigénicas.

TIPOS DE CPA
• Células dendríticas. Son miembros del armamento celular del sistema inmune, las cuales poseen características prolongaciones citoplasmáticas repletas de receptores antigénicos.
• Macrófagos. Son células fagocitarias por excelencia, por lo que principalmente presentan antígenos procesados de bacterias y parásitos.
• Células B. Reconocen antígenos por medio de su principal receptor, la inmunoglobulina de membrana BCR. Fagocitan.

PROPIEDADES
• Las CPA son células capaces de endocitosis con el fin de internalizar y procesar los antígenos extraños, no propios del hospedador.
• Una vez procesado el material extraño, debe ser presentado en la superficie, sobre la membrana celular de la CPA unido a una molécula del complejo mayor de histocompatibilidad (MHC). Adicional a los estímulos generado por la interacción creada por el reconocimiento de un linfocito T, las CPA proveen al linfocito estímulos a través de coestimuladores de membrana necesarios para la activación del linfocito T.

COMPLEJO MAYOR DE HISTOCOMPATIBILIDAD (CMH)
• El complejo mayor de histocompatibilidad (CMH) es una familia de genes ubicados en el brazo corto del cromosoma 6 en humanos, cuyos productos están implicados en la presentación de antígenos a los linfocitos T y en la diferenciación de lo propio y lo ajeno en el sistema inmunitario.
• La región del brazo corto del cromosoma 6 que contiene los genes del CMH, posee la información de: ciertas glucoproteínas de la membrana plasmática involucradas en los mecanismos de presentación y procesamiento de antígenos a los linfocitos T, se agrupan en los genes de: Clase I (que codifican las proteínas CMH-I).Clase II (que codifican las proteínas CMH-II).

RESPUESTA INMUNITARIA
• Es la forma como el cuerpo reconoce y se defiende a sí mismo contra bacterias, virus y sustancias que parecen extrañas y dañinas.
• El sistema inmunitario protege al organismo de sustancias posiblemente nocivas, al reconocer y responder a los antígenos, que son sustancias (por lo general proteínas) que se encuentran en la superficie de las células, los virus, los hongos o las bacterias. Las sustancias inertes, como toxinas, químicos, drogas y partículas extrañas, también pueden ser antígenos. El sistema inmunitario reconoce y destruye sustancias que contienen antígenos. Pueden ser: inmunidad adquirida y inmunidad innata.

LINFOCITOS T CITOTÓXICOS (CD8+)
• Linfocitos T citotóxicos (CTL, por sus siglas en inglés) o linfocitos CD8+ encargados de las funciones efectoras de la inmunidad celular, mediante la interacción con un complejo (péptido-CMH-I).
• Los CTL reconocen las células infectadas por el patógeno para células tumorales, y las destruyen segregando una serie de moléculas (perforina, granzimas, FasL) que activan la apoptosis de la célula diana.

LINFOCITOS T COOPERADORES (CD4+)
• Linfocitos T cooperadores, o linfocitos CD4+: se encargan de iniciar la cascada de la respuesta inmune coordinada mediante la interacción con un complejo (péptido-CMH-II).
• Cuando se activan, los linfocitosCD4+ se especializan, diferenciándose a su vez en linfocitos efectores, que se distinguen por el tipo de citoquinas que producen.

LINFOCITOS TH1, TH2, TH17
• Th1: Migran a los tejidos infectados y colaboran en la activación de los macrófagos, ya que los Th1 segregan fundamentalmente interferón γ; son importantes en la defensa frente a los microorganismos intracelulares y la inflamación.
• Th2: Permanecen sobre todo en los tejidos linfoides y colaboran en la activación de los linfocitos B; segregan principalmente IL-4 (que estimula la secreción de Ig-E, que a su vez activa los mastocitos) e IL-5 (que activa los eosinófilos); son importantes en las reacciones alérgicas y en la defensa frente a parásitos.
• Th17: Denominados así porque segregan IL-17, además de IL-22; son los principales mediadores en algunas reacciones alérgicas, y parecen estar implicados en el desarrollo de enfermedades como la esclerosis múltiple, la artritis reumatoide y la enfermedad inflamatoria intestinal.
