Our FatherOur FatherOur FatherOur Father Our Father, Who art in Heaven, Hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done On earth as it is in Heaven. Give us this day our daily bread, And forgive us our trespasses As we forgive those who trespass against us. And lead us not into temptation But deliver us from evil. Amen.
Hail Mary
Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women And blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen
Gloria
Glory be to the Father, and the Son, and to the Holy Spirit.
As it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be.
Amen
SalveSalveSalveSalve
Hail Holy Queen, Mother of Mercy, Hail our life, our sweetness and our hope. To thee to we
cry, poor banished children of Eve; to thee do we send up our sighs, mourning and weeping in
this valley of tears.
Turn then, most gracious advocate, thine eyes of mercy toward u, and after this, our exile,
show unto us blessed fruit of thy womb, Jesus. O clement, o loving, o sweet Virgin Mary!

HUMAN RIGHTS
Human rights refer to the "basic rights and freedoms to which all humans are entitled." Examples of rights and freedoms which have come to be commonly thought of as human rights include civil and political rights, such as the right to life and liberty, freedom of expression, and equality before the law; and economic, social and cultural rights, including the right to participate in culture, the right to food, the right to work, and the right to education.
“ All human beings are born free and equal in dignity and rights. They are
endowed with reason and conscience and should act towards one
another in a spirit of brotherhood.

JESUS CHRIST
Jesus was born about 7 BC in Bethlehem in Judea, by the Mary. With his miraculous birth, he is considered the Son of God and God himself. Most texts begin with Jesus’ ministry after his baptism in the Jordan River by John the Baptist and of his fasting in the wilderness for 40 days. During the final day of his fast, the Devil tried to tempt him, but failed.
After his encounter with the Devil, Jesus moved to Capernaum to begin his teaching. As the numbers of his followers increased, Jesus began training disciples to work with him. Once trained, he and his disciples traveled to nearby towns to preach the word of God. Much of what he taught challenged the authority of religious and civil leaders. Jesus gained as many enemies as followers.
As their ministry grew, it was reveled to his disciples that Jesus was the Messiah. This revelation also led to the death of Jesus. Threatened by Jesus growth in popularity, the leaders devised a plan to kill him. With the aid of one of the twelve disciples, Judas Iscariot, Jesus was arrested and sentenced to death.
After being found guilty for blasphemy and other charges, he was sentenced to death. Jesus was executed by crucifixion. Three days after his death, Jesus arose from his tomb and appeared to his disciples. After a brief time with his disciples, Jesus ascended into
heaven.
JESUS ´ LIFE
Jesus was born to Mary and Joseph about 2000 years ago in the city of Bethlehem.
When Jesus was about 30 years old he started to travel the country
• He was telling people about God
• He was healing sick people.
• He chose twelve men to help him -the apostles
• They became his friends and helpers
• After he had died they told everyone else about him and his teaching.
After his crucifixion though
• Jesus rose from the dead
• He appeared to his disciples telling them not to be afraid and to tell others about him.
There are two main rules which Jesus told his followers to live by:
• Love God with all your heart, mind and strength. • Love your neighbour as yourself.
Jesus said:
"I am the way the life and the truth "I am the way the life and the truth "I am the way the life and the truth "I am the way the life and the truth ---- no one comes to the Father but by me" no one comes to the Father but by me" no one comes to the Father but by me" no one comes to the Father but by me"

THE BIBLE
The Bible is a library of books named after what the Greeks
called it: Biblio or 'The Books'. It is split into two sections:
• The Old Testament which tells the stories of Jewish history • The New Testament which tells the story of Jesus life and
teaching.
The old testament is the story of the creation of the Earth and Jewish history. The new testament is the story of Jesus.
• The Bible is translated into 2000 languages • There is at least one copy in every church • It was first printed in English in 1535 • It is made up of 66 books written by different writers • It was written over about 1000 years • It is made up of stories, poems, psalms, prayers, laws and
letters. • The first four books of the New Testament are called the gospels - which means Good News! • The New Testament is 27 books - 5 history books, 21 letters and the Book of Revelation
which is a prophecy about the future. • The gospel of Mark tells the story of Jesus 40 years after his death. • Matthew's and Luke gospels are similar telling us what the writer thought we ought to know
about Jesus' life. • The Gospel of John was written later.
Other books of the New Testament are The Acts of the Apostles and the letters. These tell the story of the first few years of Christianity…how the message was spread and how people were converted. Paul who was a very important teacher wrote the letters and his letters contain many lessons for the early Christians.
This is the history for the Christian church - just as the Old Testament is the history for the Jewish religion!

CHRISTIAN CALENDAR
CHRISTIAN FESTIVALS
Christmas
Christians celebrate Jesus' birth on December 25th. It follows a month of preparation (Advent) and involved lots of festivities, school plays telling the story of the nativity, exchanging Christmas cards and presents, special meals, special decoration - very much like big festivals in other world religions.
Carol Villancico Fireworks Fuegos Artificiales Nativity Pesebre Silent Night Noche De Paz Gift Regalo
Shrove Tuesday and Lent
Shrove Tuesday is four weeks before Easter. It is celebrated by making pancakes and traditionally having pancake races etc. The idea is to use up all of the rich food - eggs and flour ready for the month long fast to prepare oneself for the Easter celebration.
On Ash Wednesday (the day after Shrove Tuesday and the start of lent) Christians
remember Jesus - they go to church and have the sign of the cross marked on their
foreheads in ash.
Holy Week: Palm Sunday - Maundy Thursday
On Palm Sunday - the first day of Holy week Christians remember when Jesus rode into Jerusalem riding on a donkey - people threw palm leaves down on the road like a red carpet might be laid in front

of a king. Palm crosses are given to the congregation to help them think about the week ahead.
Maundy Thursday is a reminder of the last supper - when Jesus celebrated the first communion with is apostles.
Good Friday
The day that Jesus died on the cross. There are services in all Christian churches at the time Christ was crucified. These are very solemn occasions quite unlike what will occur three days later. Lent Season Cuaresma Passion Of Christ Pasión De Cristo Resurrection Resurrección Happy Easte Felices Pascuas Easter Mass Misa De Pascua
Easter Sunday
The most important festival for Christians. It is a very joyous occasion marked in churches by wonderful music and flowers. Out of church by the exchange of cards and Easter eggs - a symbol of spring and new life as Jesus' death brought new life to Christians.
Ash Wednesday Miercóles De Ceniza Crucifix Crucifijo Good Friday Viernes Santo Holy Week Semana Santa Palm Sunday Domingo De Ramos
Whitsun
On the day of Pentecost when the Jews celebrated their harvest festival. Jesus, his apostles and many people who followed him were together in Jerusalem. Suddenly it seemed like a wind rushed through the crowd, everyone suddenly could understand many languages new to them. It was a visit from the Holy Spirit and he gave everyone there
new power in their bodies so that they could go and spread the word of God.

LENT
What’s it all about?
Read this passage in your head once, then take it in turns to read it aloud to your partner. Then
answer these questions:
1) Who led Jesus to the desert? 2) Why was he taken there? 3) Who “tempted” him? 4) What did he tempt him to do? 5) What was Jesus’ response to all of those temptations? 6) Why would Jesus not turn the stones into bread? What would that have been such a bad
thing, do you think?
7) What was the problem with Jesus throwing himself off the temple?
8) Why wouldn’t he do it?
9) What was the final temptation all about? What did the devil want from Jesus?
10) What was Jesus’ main weapon that he used to fight
the devil’s temptation?
11) Why do you think Lent is included in the Christian calendar
Matthew 4Matthew 4Matthew 4Matthew 4
1Then Jesus was led by the Spirit into the desert to be tempted by the devil. 2After fasting forty
days and forty nights, he was hungry. 3The tempter came to him and said, "If you are the Son of
God, tell these stones to become bread."
4Jesus answered, "It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes
from the mouth of God.'"
5Then the devil took him to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple. 6"If
you are the Son of God," he said, "throw yourself down. For it is written:
" 'He will command his angels concerning you,
and they will lift you up in their hands,
so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.'"
7Jesus answered him, "It is also written: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test.'"
8Again, the devil took him to a very high mountain and showed him all the kingdoms of the world
and their splendor. 9"All this I will give you," he said, "if you will bow down and worship me."
10Jesus said to him, "Away from me, Satan! For it is written: 'Worship the Lord your God, and serve
him only.'"
11Then the devil left him, and angels came and attended him.

CHRISTIAN SYMBOLS
A Cross to remind us that Jesus died on the cross to save us. This is the main Christian symbol. There are many different types of crosses.
Jesus was a carpenter like his earthly father but most of his friends and many followers were fisherman - the fishing boat is a symbol of his followers, there is a cross on the top of the mast and the x/p are the first letters of Christ's name in Greek.
A symbol of the holy spirit and peace. The dove appeared at Jesus' baptism.
The Chi Ro symbol - the first letters of Christ in Greek.
Alpha and omega - the beginning and the end of the Greek alphabet - demonstrates that God is first, and last - eternal!
The symbol of the fish - The fish symbol was created using the Greek letters which spell out ICTHUS : Jesus Christ God's Son Saviour. ICTHUS also means fish - so the fish symbol was used when the early church was being persecuted. This was a secret sign scratched on the walls of buildings or drawn on the floor in the sand, to tell people where a Christian meeting was being held. It is still frequently used today.
The fish symbol was created using the Greek letters which spell out ICHTHUS : Jesus Christ God's Son Saviour.
The Romans persecuted the Christians and it became dangerous for them to meet. So the Christians devised a secret code. They drew half a fish in the sand. If a person completed the fish, they knew he or she was a believer too. Under the fish sign the Christians wrote the Greek word fish.
These letters stood for: Jesus Christ God's Son Saviour

THE LIFE OF WILLIAM JOSEPH CHAMINADE
The Blessed William Joseph Chaminade, S.M. (French: Guillaume-Joseph
Chaminade), was a French Catholic priest who survived persecution during the French Revolution. He later founded the Society of Mary, usually called the Marianists, in 1817. The Marianist Family's other three branches—the married and single men and women of the Marianist Lay Communities, the consecrated laywomen of the Alliance Mariale, and the Religious Sisters known as the Daughters of Mary Immaculate—also look to Chaminade as a founder or inspiration.
Beatified by Pope John Paul II on September 3, 2000, his feast day is celebrated on January 22
Chaminade was born in 1761 in Périgueux, in the former province of Périgord, now the Department of Dordogne. He was the 14th child of deeply religious parents. Three of his brothers became priests. Feeling called to serve in this way as well, he entered a minor seminary in Mussidan at the age of ten. He was ordained a priest in 1785 for the local diocese
