How does CAS +it into the DP?
CAS creates students who are… 1. re>lective thinkers

4. active participants in sustained, collaborative projects
5. balanced
Creativity

CAS
Service
Arts and things that involve creative thinking.
Physical exertion contributing to a healthy lifestyle.
Unpaid, voluntary exchange with a learning bene>it.
What is CAS? 1. Real, purposeful activities, with signi>icant
outcomes. 2. A personal challenge—tasks must challenge you,
but still be achievable. 3. Requires thoughtful consideration, such as
planning, reviewing progress, reporting. 4. Requires re>lection on outcomes and personal
learning.
What CAS is not… 1. An opportunity to score points. 2. An hour-‐counting exercise. 3. Trivial activities. 4. Activities where you are a passive rather than active
participant. 5. Activities that create or contribute to divisions in the
community (e.g. some political or religious activities). 6. Activities you are paid for. 7. Activities that are part of your daily choirs or
requirements for the DP. 8. Activities where you do not have a supervisor.
Requirements 1. You are responsible for
identifying and designing your CAS projects.
Don´t worry you will be guided through the process by school supervisors!
Requirements 2. You will participate in a number of CAS projects throughout the
two years of the DP and must meet all eight learning outcomes. 3. At least one project that involves teamwork, integrates at least two
elements of CAS and is of signi>icant duration. Example: Working in a team giving weekly afterschool music lessons to children in the neighborhood who might otherwise not have the opportunity to learn an instrument. What two elements does this project integrate (creativity, action or service)? Creativity and Service!
Requirements 4. You must re>lect, record and report your CAS
experiences in interviews with your CAS advisor and in your own personal blog.
5. You will need to re>lect on the following questions: 0 What did I plan to do? 0 What did I do? 0 What were the outcomes, for me, for the team I was working with, and others?
Identify the type of CAS project in the re>lection
videos 0 Is it creativity, action or service? 0 How has the student met the criteria for a CAS project?
