Apuntes Ir, Estar, Dar

EE1A - Capítulo 3

The verbs ir, estar, and dar are irregular, because they have a different form of yo.

All other forms are the same as a regular -ar verb.

The accents may a little different on some of the forms.

IR = to go

yo nosotros(as)

tú vosotros(as)

Use the question word Adónde + a form of ir to ask where someone is going.

Ejemplos:¿Adónde vas? = (To) Where are you going? ¿Adónde van ustedes? = (To) where are you all going?

Use this formula to tell where someone is going: Form of ir + a + place

Ejemplos:Voy a la tienda. = I go to the store. Vamos al café. = We are going to the café. (Remember that a + el = al)

Estar has an accent on the tú, él/ella/usted, vosotros, and ellos/ellas/ustedes forms.

Estar and Ser both mean to be - they are used in different situations.

Use estar to talk about emotions (feelings) as well as location (where you are).

Ejemplos:¿Cómo estás? = How are you? Estoy bien, gracias. = I am good, thanks. ¿Dónde está Marta? = Where is Marta? Marta está en casa. = Marta is at home.

Ejemplos:Yo doy un lápiz a mi amigo = I give a pencil to my friend.La profesora da la información a la clase = The teacher gives the information to the class.
