CONGRATULATIONS PHS Class of 2017!

Passaic High School is proud to recognize almost 700 graduates! At the graduation ceremony held on

Monday, June 26, 2017, over 3,000 family and community members cheered the Class of 2017 as they entered Boverini Stadium.

The Passaic High School NJROTC started the ceremony with the Presentation of Colors and 2017 Class President Lefki Xique led the stadium in the Pledge of Allegiance. Valedictorian Dev Patel gave a heartfelt speech, encouraging his classmates, "The great thing about Passaic is that we are a melting pot full of endless amazing talent...Do not let anyone tell you what you can and cannot do... Go out and be the best that you can be!"

Peter T. Rosario, Vice President of the Passaic Board of Education, led the audience in congratulating the students on their accomplishments and the students responded with a resounding “Thank You.” The keynote speaker, Mayor Hector C. Lora, encouraged the students to pursue their dreams and to bring their talents back to Passaic. "Persevere, no matter what stands before you; aspire to greater things; stand for truth; seek out new adventures; assist others; follow your instincts; have the courage to make a difference; always remember, greatness in you and Passaic loves you!"

The graduates' gowns reflected their amazing accomplishments, including participation in National Honor Society and NJROTC. Fifty of the graduating seniors were also awarded the Seal of Biliteracy, recognizing them for their high level of academic achievement in two languages. Congratulations Class of 2017, we look forward to hearing about your future success!

Jumping into Summer!

This summer, Passaic Public Schools has been full of learning. Over 5,000 students have been involved in summer

programs this year, the largest summer enrollment in Passaic Public Schools history! Throughout the city, our students have been enrolled in athletic clinics, academic support programs, and engaging enrichment programs.

Congratulations Class of 2017! As a Passaic High School graduate, it was a true honor to shake each of our students' hands as they walked across the stage to receive their diploma. I look forward to hearing about and experiencing the success that awaits our graduates, and it is my sincere hope that they return to Passaic as we continue to build our city for generations to come.

As parents, each year we look forward to the first day of school. Each year is a new milestone. This year, I would like to encourage our families to continue to stay involved in our schools at every grade level. For our children, and for our community, it is essential that we remain involved from their first Pre-k classroom through their graduation from high school. Join the school parent organization, attend school family nights, and remember that together we will make Passaic strong!

Congratulations PHS Class of 2017! I am proud to welcome you to the distinguished ranks of Passaic High School Alumni! The long list of college acceptances on pages 4 and 5 highlight the amazing accomplishments of our students, parents, teachers, and the strong community that is Passaic. I wish all of the Class of 2017 a lifetime of learning and success.

This year, we are also welcoming our future, the Class of 2031. As our youngest students enter the doors of Passaic Public Schools as 3-year olds, they are entering a system that is built around their future. Over the last four years, this district has come so far, from the amazing summer programming available for all of Passaic's students, to the extraordinary academic courses offered at the high schools, it is clear that we are a district on the rise. This year, I am looking forward to celebrating our students' milestones and our district's progress as we work as a community to become the best urban school system in New Jersey!

¡Felicitaciones a la Clase de 2017! Como graduado de la Escuela Secundaria de Passaic, fue un verdadero honor estrechar la mano de cada uno de nuestros estudiantes a medida que subían al escenario a recibir su diploma. Espero enterarme de sus logros y celebrarlos junto a ellos. Espero sinceramente que regresen a Passaic a medida que continuemos construyendo nuestra ciudad para las futuras generaciones.

Como padres, el primer día de clases de cada año es muy especial. Cada año que comienza es un nuevo logro. Este año me gustaría animar a nuestras familias a que continúen involucrándose en nuestras escuelas en todos los niveles. Para nuestros niños y para nuestra comunidad es fundamental que los acompañemos desde su primera clase de kinder hasta su graduación de la escuela secundaria. ¡Únanse a la organización de padres de la escuela, asistan a las noches familiares, y recuerden que juntos haremos de Passaic un lugar cada vez mejor!

¡FELICITACIONES a la Clase 2017 de la Escuela Secundaria de Passaic!¡La Escuela Secundaria de Passaic se enorgullece de reconocer a aproximadamente 700 graduados! En la ceremonia de graduación celebrada el lunes 16 de junio de 2017, más de 3000 familiares y miembros de la comunidad aclamaron a la Clase de 2017 mientras entraba al Estadio Boverini.

El cuerpo de Entrenamiento de Oficiales de la Reserva Naval (NJROTC, por sus siglas en inglés) de la Escuela Secundaria de Passaic comenzó la ceremonia con la presentación y el juramento a la bandera dirigido por el presidente de la clase 2017, Lefki Xique. El estudiante de más alto rango, Dev Patel pronunció el discurso de despedida, animando a sus compañeros con estas emocionantes palabras: “Lo más hermoso de Passaic es que somos un crisol repleto de talento ... No permitan que nadie les diga lo que pueden o no pueden hacer ... ¡Salgan al mundo y sean lo mejor que puedan ser!”

Peter T. Rosario, vicepresidente de la Junta de Educación de Passaic, felicitó a los estudiantes por sus logros junto con la audiencia, y los estudiantes respondieron con un resonante “Gracias”. El orador principal, el alcalde Héctor C. Lora, animó a los estudiantes a luchar por alcanzar sus sueños y regresar a Passaic a compartir sus talentos. “Sean perseverantes, sin importar los obstáculos que se les pongan por delante; aspiren a lo máximo; defiendan la verdad; busquen nuevas aventuras; ayuden a otros; sigan sus instintos; tengan el valor de hacer una diferencia; siempre recuerden la grandeza que tienen y que Passaic los ama”.

Los cordones y las bandas que decoraban las túnicas de los graduados reflejaban sus enormes logros, incluyendo su participación en la Sociedad Nacional de Honor y en la NJROTC. Cincuenta de los graduados también recibieron el Sello de Alfabetización Bilingüe, en reconocimiento por sus elevados logros académicos en dos idiomas. ¡Felicitaciones a la Clase de 2017, y esperamos enterarnos sobre sus futuros éxitos!
