IN SITU es aquello que designa un fenómeno observado en un lugar. Con este nombre se ha decidido acompañar, a través del arte, al fenómeno observado en Ruzafa, en el que se reivindica la identidad social de un barrio y sus derechos a tener un espacio común donde disfrutar de actividades para una mejora social.

Por ello, trece artistas han creado una serie de obras en las que se reflejan las reivindicaciones planteadas por la asociación vecinal Plataforma per Russafa. Una lucha constante contra los poderes económicos y políticos que pretenden eliminar lugares verdes y públicos, privatizando espacios que con otro uso en el tiempo, podrían configurarse como lugares dispuestos a la convergencia y creación de relaciones sociales. Haciendo posible una vida en común y una identidad del barrio, huyendo así de las concepciones mercantiles de la vida urbana.

En esta muestra, por lo tanto, comparecen una serie de obras que, con diversas técnicas y poéticas, se han dispuesto a la reflexión sobre un fenómeno urbano, político y social, como lo son las luchas por el Parque Manuel Granero y las Naves de Ribes.

IN SITU is something that designates a phenomenon observed in a place, with this concept it has been decided to accompany, through the art the phenomenon observed in Ruzafa, in which the social identity of a neighborhood and its rights claimed to have a common space where everyone could enjoy activities for social improvement.

Therefore, thirteen artists have created a series of works that reflect the demands raised by the neighborhood association Plataforma per Russafa, that has been fighting with constant struggle against economic and political powers that seek to remove green and public spaces, privatizing spaces with other uses, they could be configured as places of creation of social relations, making possible a life in common, creating a neighborhood identity and fleeing commercial conceptions of urban life.

This exhibition, shows a series of works with various techniques and poetics that have been prepared to be a rethink on urban, political and social phenomenon, as Naves Ribes and Manuel Granero’s park struggles

ANDREA MATAIX & ALEJANDRO MATAIXNAU & NOW

Andrea es arquitecto por la “ETSAV”, mientras estaba estudiando la carrera, realizó prácticas en Platinium Group (Budapest 2008) y en el Ayuntamiento de Xàtiva (2010). Tras titularse vivió en el estado de Sao Paulo, ejerciendo su primera experiencia profesional (2012). Posteriormente se trasladó a Dublín, donde estuvo colaborando de manera activa con estudios como Ailtir(eacht), Urban Agency y Cunnane Stratton Reynolds Land and Planning (2013-2014). Ha participado en diferentes actividades académicas y de investigación como el Taller de Arquitectura y Urbanismo, Propuestas de Planificación y Redensificación realizado en Guasave-Los Mochis (Méjico 2014). Fue ganadora en el concurso de escaparates organizado por la Asociación de Comerciantes del Centro Histórico de Valencia (2015) y finalista en la convocatoria de Intramurs Festival per l’art a Valencia (2015). Actualmente está cursando el Máster en Producción Artística en la UPV.

¿Por qué ahora? ¿Por qué las Naves? Este proyecto es un homenaje al arquitecto Demetrio Ribes, un personaje de plena actualidad, que dejó un legado que puede ser la clave para la transformación de su entorno a través del desarrollo del nuevo Parque Central, enriquecido por las aportaciones de colectivos ciudadanos.

Estas siete serigrafías se han titulado :Nau & Now, Homenaje a Demetrio, ¿Qué?, ¿Cuándo?, ¿Dónde?, Nau_tico, Hogar dulce hogar.

Alejandro es estudiante de Ingeniería de la Edificación. Desarrolló cursos de cerámica que le permitieron explorar tanto la materia como la forma. Participó en la Muestra de diseño del Coworking Sagunto presentando la colección Geo-Xoc en 2014. Actualmente está experimentando con los procesos serigráficos.

INSITU ha surgido como un grupo de trabajo a partir de las sinergias generadas entre algunos alumnos del Máster en Producción Artística de la UPV y la Plataforma per Russafa. Durante años, dicha plataforma ha estado trabajando para conseguir la recuperación de la actividad vecinal en el Parque Manuel Granero, así como la rehabilitación y transformación de los usos de las naves Ribes. Dichos trabajos son la oportunidad que se ha aprovechado para desarrollar los temas de esta exposición.

Nos sentimos muy agradecidos a Plataforma per Russafa por permitir a todos los integrantes del grupo participar en esta muestra.

INSITU has emerged as a work group based on the synergies generated between some students of the UPV Master’s Degree in Artistic Production and Plataforma per Rus-safa. For years, this association has been working to achieve the recovery of activities for the community in Manuel Granero Park as well as the rehabilitation and transfor-mation of the use of the Naves Ribes; the works that are being currently carried out are the opportunity that we used to develop the themes of this exhibition.

MAI HIDALGOSOLD TO NEIGHBORHOODMy pieces are about how a fresh and immediate note, or an interesting press clipping acquires a new discourse when it’s projected into a new and higher dimension. A notebook full of ideas unfolds, mingling with each other.Specifically, this work is part of a series of giant impressions that put the intimate and personal level of the notebooks and the new pieces designed for public exhibition in parallel, inviting to reflect on the relationship between the individual reality of the artist, which is usually private, and the collective realities. Especially the various readings and interpretations that are generated with them.Formally, this newspaper clipping shows an anonymous closed blind projected on the walls of the room, with a “sold to the neighborhood” sign on it. When the image loses its proportions, it transports us from an intimate plane to a expanded up, closer to viewer that manages to make us think about the project of opening Naves Ribes on which we work.

This project is a tribute to the architect Demetrio Ribes, a relevant character nowadays, which left a legacy that can be the key to transform the environment through it. The development of the new Central Park is also enriched by the contributions of citizen groups. All in all is happening at this moment. LAURA PALAUBUILDING IN PERMANENCELa modernidad pretende abandonar la figura del misterio. Lo que hoy se entiende The modernity tries to leave the figure of the mystery. What today is understood as theory is a Neoplatonist misinterpretation of the treatment which is done in the platonic dialogs of the concept of logos: in fact, the keystones of the whole platonic universe are two myths. The inex-plicable or the strange penetrates structurally in art and life. The scientific vision is not the one that takes charge of the things more rigorously, even though it wants to believe in our context of a disenchanted world. Laura Palau’s work tries to experience, and reveal, the problematics of the representability and the perspective across the treatment of the same image from three diffe-rent formats. In the classic Greece, to be was identified as being seen, and since then the vision has been taken as the most direct and trustworthy way of relating to the things. To contemplate the problematics of what we understand as vision or representation from a poetical point of view can approach us to what is perhaps the most genuinely human task: it is necessary to carry out the experience of relating to the strangeness of the things to manage to familiarize with them and to try to inhabit them more completely and again. CLARA PALOMARNAU!One of the projects that the Plataforma per Russafa reclaims is the transfer of the Naus de Ribes from the public administration to the neighbours, so they can manage them by themselves. During the last years, they have reclaimed repeatedly that this untapped space could be used to supply the deficiencies in the neighbourd caused by the lack of collective public services, such as gardens, social centers, sports halls, etc. Presenting these posters, the artist aims to show how people are responsible for all these changes that have improved the space and they will keep working on it. It is, ultimately, a demonstration of collective strength that should be celebrated.
